But without Niantic even be straight and Open to the Community (s2 anyone?)
Niantic Wayfarer team won’t ever be open about S2 Cells. Much like the issues with PokéStops “not appearing” etc. they will say it is a game specific issue and you’ve submitted Wayspots that are live on Wayfarer, even if not in any games.
i would hope they could have a good route to the regular Niantic team. So when there are “grumblings” they could nudge for a response. Likewise when Niantic are proposing something they could push for good timely communication.
And if I can be cheeky and have a second one, contribute with user end experience to any changes planned.
People shouldn't be surprised, just like back then when some AMA was meant to include 15 questions and answers, but in the end, they picked 12 issues and provided 10 replies or so. Why do people care about this so much? Neither did I in spite of applying, although I know very well that I'm not fit for that job due to my attitude and I would have stepped down immediately if chosen. It's not like Ambassadors have any real power to improve Wayfarer. The best they can do is to give the players some advice, which is good, and come up with (or communicate) excuses why Niantic doesn't deliver or at least maintain their products properly.
That could be done by an intern also. We need people that actually are doing Something, otherwise you can Just Copy Paste or have the usual niantic chatbot that is an insult to any playing paying customer.
It looks like one less person, but I am hopeful that the Wayfarer team and its 11 ambassadors will now begin their voyage.
But let me say this.
Ambassadors are expected to serve as a bridge between the Wayfarer team and the general Wayfinder community.
But even before the official launch, we have seen cases where inquiries that seem to deviate from the ambassador's role are mentions to the ambassadors through social networking sites.
For this reason, I am concerned about the physical and mental wear and tear on the Ambassadors.
The Wayfarer team should first clearly define the role of ambassadors and announce it to all players worldwide.
This will help protect the physical and mental health of the ambassadors.
They should allow all of us to vote on who becomes the 12th wayfarer ambassador or allow the 11 selected to vote on who they think the best candidate is. Just a thought. I didn’t apply & for some reason it seems like a great idea to me
I will say though, hopefully the ambassadors have the ability to push niantic to acknowledge and deal with bugs that crop up rather than waiting a week before admitting anything. Like just now the ingress sync issue, no one in niantic is reacting to it, not here or on the ingress forum, thats infuriating, so hopefully the ambassadors can give helpful nudges (or full on shoves) to get them interacting
There is something wrong with this website. This has been on my screen where I commented since I shared it the first time about a week ago. This just shows us how bad things are being handled. It’s ridiculous & a slap in the face to every wayfinder who applied. What they should do is allow for the 11 Wayfarer Ambassadors that were chosen to vote on who should be the last ambassador or allow all of us to vote. I personally think it would be a great idea & I didn’t even apply
👍🏻 Very nice, "only" 12 ambassadors are selected and then you actually select several people from one and the same country? That's great ! Why are you doing this? Why isn't everyone ambassador, each from a different country? At least that would make sense!
As much as I'd like to see additional Wayfarer Ambassadors and wider geographical representation, I do think that the community would never be 100% happy with the chosen pool even if more countries were represented: there's no way that every country could have a seat at the table, and even if they could, then the Wayfarer-heavy countries would balk about having the same amount of representation as a small island nation with very few POI. I would love, love, love to see a general breakdown of the Ambassador demographics beyond country of residence. Nothing too specific, maybe just a listing of total languages spoken, age ranges, gender identity stats (40% identifying as male, 40% identifying as female, 10% non-binary or unwilling to disclose, for example), and sample review/submission stats to show that Niantic's goal of a diverse grouping has been achieved.
Given one of the chosen Ambassadors is 100% known to break the games ToS and manipulate way-point presence/location to their factions advantage then I am unsure how well this program will work.
(And yes I messaged Niantic staff about this privately, with evidence, about two weeks ago and not received a response).
That's the another very reason I don't wish to participate in this Ambassadors tbh. I'd lack of skills and experience to being an ambassador 😅
Also pinging everyone else, there are many active users from Germany in this forum but no Ambassador chosen from there. Yet there is one from Indonesia meanwhile the only active participant in this forum is... me.
Having Been able to reach out to Traxi personally (somewhat local) I think they will bring a very unique perspective to wayfarer.
As Niantic said from the beginning they wanted diverse voices.
For context they come from a more rural/ish Australian community then the other Aussie Ambassador, and likely a very different approach to the system.
That Wayfinder I think will be a great ambassador.
Don’t judge an unknown book by its forum activity.
If ambassadors only were those with 50,000+ agreements and 10,000+ forum comments, sure they would get an idea of the community, but they would exclude anyone who uses the system more causally.
It’s one of the reasons @BlameJamal-ING & I have featured people on the Wayspotter’s Podcast from very different levels of connection with wayfarer, not just people who are deep into the system.
I personally am looking forward to seeing the bigger picture Niantic have planned for the ambassador’s.
I understand that they want different perspectives and it seems they have captured that.
But to say “Provide us with a forum topic which evoked conversation” (I don’t recall the full wording, someone do please correct me if you know) and then choose those with not much activity.
If it doesn’t matter, maybe they can leave it off the next application process.
I don’t believe they asked for it on the Ingress forums for the XMAs, so it’s probably not important as many of those picked had minimal forum activity there too.
On the podcast, I’ve listened so far to each one (but I do tend to tune out when it’s too Pokémon GO focused) and when it’s discussing Wayfarer it’s good. Keep it up.
Not an argument, but I think the concern/issue many of us have is having considered the Ambassador something that was an achievement - that if we made a strong application highlighting our community involvement and work done promoting/reviewing for Wayfarer, we could be chosen and could help make a difference from the inside. The way Niantic took folks with little to no (Wayforum) name recognition and some very very low Wayfarer experience at all indicates they are looking for more of a focus feedback group - something that could/should have been through simple surveys. For a year-long program, I personally see lack of involvement with Wayfarer as being less likely to take it seriously and maybe even be flight risks.
But I cannot stress enough that I'm optimistic and hopeful, and these concerns are not targeted at individuals, just my personal thoughts looking at the scenario.
I don't think that participation in this forum should be related to the eligibility for the ambassadors role, the selection should be based on experience with wayfarer and the community around each candidate.
It's very important to hear what are the thoughts of newcomers to wayfarer, but that doesn't align with a 12 months commitment.
Maybe Niantic didn't want to select many people with thousands of reviews and that could explain why some people have been left out. But surely the are other many candidates that had enough experience but not "too much"
did you guys get a badge in whichever game you prefer or both if have reached the appropriate level? If not, I believe you guys should. It is an accomplishment & should be an achievement as such. It is a big deal no matter what. Everyone who was chosen are more important to the community than ever before right now. I hope those with little experience within the forum have more of a reason to be here now & chat with all of us a little more. (Or at least as much as they’re capable, because like everyone you guys have lives, jobs, etc) regardless I believe you guys should also receive a badge in game to flash around to everyone you meet because it’s a big accomplishment & it needs to be seen as such. Hopefully once the wheels get rolling the future will look a little brighter

Wayfarer needs a purge, not people telling others to join this mess and become disappointed shortly afterwards.
Since there's an ambassador less, I'll fill in for them at these meetings .... totally won't let anything out the bag 👀👀

I’m now thinking of the 11 Ambassadors sat at a round table, and the 12th seat is forever vacant. Wayfarer’s own version of Siege Perilous.
Agatha Christie told us how this will end.
Meanwhile, at the first Ambassadors meeting, NianticTonto introduces this years team.

Hello here I am!
@LachlanF-ING would be a great ambassador.
Just saying .... For next time
@Traxi25-PGO hello! Great to see a fellow Queenslander get the pick.
All the best!!!!
@NianticTintino
Sailing started?
Or not?
Congratulations to the chosen ones. I hope people can support Niantic.
