Tell me how this it's not a Plaza?
It's a shopping center or **** mall, as seen by the signs showing all the retail stores at the location. A plaza is a park-like area that is designed to be a social space and is primarily designed around pedestrian traffic.
Dedicated conversation area... are you kidding 😳 I know a lot of man do shopping like it's a mission that need to be done fast with their face hidden and without any human interaction... but you need to realize that's not how most women are shopping, and as soon they get out of their car and walking between the shop and the business of the plaza, they may socialize anywhere, and since it's a parking lot, car goes slow and it's totally safe to be having a conversation in the parking. These are essential business... grocery, bank, drug mart, etc... you guys need to realize that everyone in your area go to these plazas/**** mall on a weekly basis and because of it, it's the place that gathers and where people's socialize the most... my mom and boyfriend didn't encounter themselves in a grocery for nothing... just yesterday I got a 5min conversation with the costumer in front of me in the line... if you guys really think those plazas/**** mall don't fit the socialization criteria it's because you guys are antisocial in life...
I will have to disagree since the definition of Wikipedia say this:
A town square (or square, plaza, public square, city square, urban square, or piazza) is an open public space, commonly found in the heart of a traditional town but not necessarily a true geometric square, used for community gatherings. Related concepts are the civic center, the market square and the village green.
My Plaza as you can clearly read on top of the sign is exactly this. It's an open public space in the heart of my town, the parking isn't a true geometric square, but pedestrian can walk from the bank to the grocery and have a nice conversation while doing it. You cam also gather there with a friend and go take a coffee at Tim Hortons.
Around here, str*p malls are built with the object of getting the most commercial value out of a small plot of land. They often have a narrow sidewalk, a parking lot, and a bunch of stores. The developers design these malls to get commerce, not to get socialization: if they wanted people to hang out and chat, they'd design the space for that purpose. The plazas I'm thinking of allow one to park close to a particular store, and get in and out quickly. They're not great places to socialize, or at least greater than any piece of sidewalk near a place that sells things. These mini-plazas are built to get lots of turnover traffic into and out of the individual stores, and most even have "no loitering" signs posted. Submitters would have a difficult job convincing me that the area's main purpose is socialization.
But differing viewpoints are to be expected, which is why I'd like clarification on this issue.
Wikipedia is neither reliable nor authoritative. But even it states that is states that a plaza is primarily used for "community gatherings." A parking lot flanked by a few permanent shops is not a community gathering place, even if it misuses the term "plaza" in the name.
Case in point, this waypoint was accepted near where I live, probably because someone thought that it was a legit park 🤦♂️
@BeyondSour-ING who is laughing now? 😄😂🤣
Congratulations, you've added Schrödinger Wayspots to the game.
That str!p mall nominated by BeyondSour (the first photo in this thread) is already accepted. And two somewhat interesting businesses in that str!p mall area are accepted as separate portals. Thus, the question BeyondSour asked year ago - is it normal that such "plaza" signs with generic shops are accepted in QC and rejected in ON? - is now practically answered, such signs are accepted in ON too 🤣🤣, hope that answers your "who is laughing now?" question.
Personally, I'm not a fan, exactly because "shopping like it's a mission that need to be done fast with their face hidden and without any human interaction", would prefer to submit the businesses meeting "great place to socialize" criteria as separate portals, and not generic signs.
