Additional information:

Hello. Recently I’ve been following a few appeals which have revolved around safe pedestrian access, and I’m still not 100% sure how it applies in different situations. I would appreciate if Niantic takes a second look at this one and I feel it is questionable.

The nearest footpath is located 50 metres away from the sign. There is a section of grass/gravel which could be walked upon from the footpath to reach the sign. At its thinnest point, this section is ~3 metres wide.

The road is a main traffic road in the area. Walking on the road is not appropriate.

It looks like on the satellite map that there is a dirt trail further in which leads past the sign, however this is inside the fence to a prison/detention centre, and cannot be used by the public.

As a side note, this Wayspot does not appear in Pokémon Go — even though proximity rules say it should. I don’t know the reason why, but perhaps years ago a safety complaint was made in Pokémon Go but it was only removed from one game. (That is just me hypothesising though).

    Hello @Tntnnbltn-ING

Please excuse me if I am incorrect but is that a footpath in your submitted photo for rejection review?

Seem there is reasonable safe access to the portal?

    Kind regards,

    Hi @Underlying-ING

The screenshot shows a footpath which is 50 metres away from the Wayspot. I am not sure whether the area between the footpath and the Wayspot counts as safe pedestrian access though under Niantic's definition.

Another Wayspot in Perth on Abernethy Road was reported by two players (one from each Ingress faction) for pedestrian access concerns. Like this Wayspot, there was an area on the verge which could be used to approach the Wayspot, but no footpath and was alongside a main road with heavy traffic. The Wayspot was removed by Niantic after review.

Admittedly, this one has a that footpath located 50 metres away, but is otherwise a similar situation to the Abernethy Road appeal. Hence, I thought it would be prudent to check for this situation.

If this one does meet Niantic's definition of safe pedestrian access then it is all good, Wayspot can be kept, no complaints here. 🙂

Hopefully this clears it up either way, as it has been a bit of an anomalous Wayspot, being included in one of Niantic's games and not the other, and I wasn't sure if the access had anything to do with that.

  • Thanks for the appeal, @Tntnnbltn-ING! After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to retire the Portal in question.
