On Hold: block your nomination from going in voting

As promised in the 4.6 Release Notes, we now have the ability to place nominations "on hold" to block them from going into voting while we finish refining the nomination or want to prevent clogging a review area.
Note that you can only place a nomination on "hold" if it is currently in queue. Also, a nomination on hold cannot have the "upgrade next" assigned to it.
Once you're ready to release, "release hold" to allow it to enter voting at its leisure.

I see the new feature... and I'm scared.
A helpful feature 👏👏👏
This new feature seems good!
But I also agree with this comment.
What if it goes into voting with an upgrade, can it still be held back then?
Once in voting, it cannot be "held." Once "upgrade next" it cannot be "held."
I'm not sure your scenario is possible.
Why?
Niantic has a track record of messing things up. That's all. It's my experience for playing their games.
I would never use this. I've had enough nominations go into limbo. Since limbo has foiled me for 5 years (even when Niantic claims to "fix" it) - it is logical to expect queueing "fixes" to go awry.
I live 30 miles from a big city, and it seems Niantic doesn't want wayspots in distant suburbs. So my nominations are slow-tracked to take 6-18 months.
What if taking it off hold puts it in a slower track?
What if I nominate two at once, and put one on hold for a week. Would the unheld one take 6 months, and the held one 7 months? A year?
To be fair, it's a nice feature in cells, where you only have 24 hours to edit a good title, description and supporting information. Especially when doing the full 40 & 80 nominations. It gets incredibly stressful, I had to edit 25 nominations in one day and some of them turned out to be very bad and copy paste.
I totally get your frustration, but it's a nice feature for some of us.
Not sure if this is common occurrence but this happened me today. Storytime:
I went for a walk to take photos of places I figured would become good wayspot nominations. These all were places that didn't appear on the map as wayspots as then.
As I made back to home, skimmed through bad photos and chose good ones, submitted all nominations, I realize that one of the spots for my nominations appeared on the map, making one of my nomination instantly duplicate.
Now this could've also been error on my part as I did not notice it as before I went for the walk, but it can happen, right? Someone else had the same wayspot nomination way before me but there is no way to see it, unless it goes through voting.
This is why I think this new "hold" feature seems pretty great in scenarios like these. Now if there was way to delete these nominations that we put on hold that would be great. :)
