Why was it rejected ?

Hi,
I submitted one of my first pokestop ever, and it got rejected for no reason in my opinion. I read all of the criteria in wayfarer, and it seems that my proposition is eligible based on those rules.
Can I have some opinion about this please ? Thanks.
Title : Restaurant « Chez Nous »
Description : Friendly, local and well-known restaurant, baptized "Chez Nous", specialized in brunches.
I can’t understand why it got rejected, restaurants are a community place, this one is unique (there are pokestops of McDonald’s in my town so…), and there is almost no other pokestop next to this place…

You shouldn’t take what’s in game as what’s acceptable.
The McDonalds may be sponsored stops or have a playground at them, which Niantic said was acceptable briefly before the criteria refresh.
What rejection reasons did you get?
First, thanks for your answer.
I don’t understand, those are literally the rules no ? Why should we not follow them ?
Mcdonald’s are not sponsored in my town, niantic says it when it’s sponsored so…
The reason was : « Did not meet pokestop criteria » and that’s all
Restaurants generally only meet eligibility when you can show in the supporting info that the restaurant in question is very special. You generally need to show proof that they have won awards and/or invested in the community; even then, they are very difficult to get approved.
Once upon a time there was a rejection reason called “generic business,” and many businesses continue to get caught up in that thinking, including restaurants.
Thanks for your answer.
So If I understand correctly, a large part of pogo community can’t follow rules given by niantic and prefer to follow their own feelings instead, and that’s why my proposition got rejected… Got it.
Thanks for your help
It’s not just Pokémon GO players who would review. It’s Ingress players also.
As said, restaurants still struggle if there’s not enough effort put in, or merit to them.
While I read only the barest French, I read enough to know that your supporting information is insufficient to hold up a restaurant nomination. A brief internet search also failed to immediately turn up any special significance for this business, so even reviewers who tried to meet you halfway would not find what they need for approval. So, the rejection was correct for this nomination.
I will literally quote what’s written on niantic rules even tho you said that we should not follow them for a reason that I still can’t understand :
« A great place to be social with others
A favorite gathering place for friends or strangers alike, where you can share a drink or meal, be entertained, or watch public life happen. Or something that draws us together to share an experience in a locally and culturally relevant way.
Example of Wayspot categories
»
Rejection Criteria :
« A generic business, chain, or franchise that is not locally unique »
I mean, my proposition literally match what is written here… it is a place to gather with some friends, unique, and locally unique, and there is nothing in niantic rules that mention any restaurant nomination to get eligible, so how it is correctly rejected while I meet up all these point ?
Thanks for your answer.
Which you have completely failed to prove.
You've not provided any evidence that its popular, not explained why its unique to the local area or important to the community.
The onus is you to make the effort and prove your submission is worthwhile, its not the responsibility of the reviewers to do all the leg work and research your submission to see if is a good candidate.
Its a potential good candidate hamstrung by a poor nomination.
Follow the guidance @X0bai-PGO gave early in this thread and try again.
Hmmm I understand then, it’s just because I haven’t proved it was popular and unique.
But a restaurant is automatically popular no ? I mean, it’s literally made for public, so I don’t get why it should be proven, but okay I get it.
For the originality of the restaurant, how am I supposed to prove it ? I mean, am I supposed to give a link to the restaurant website in the description ? Take a screenshot of some nomination or anything else ?
Thanks for your answer
A restaurant is not automatically popular. "Popular" means that a lot of people really like the restaurant and go there regularly. It is quite possible (perhaps even common, given how often restaurants fail) to open a restaurant that doesn't become particularly popular.
I got my most recent Restaurant nomination accepted and in my supporting text I included its current TripAdvisor review score which is in the top 5 of the area so think that could have helped proving its popularity. I also explained how it was different to others in the town and unique due to what they specialise in etc. But with restaurants it can always be hit or miss if they'll pass.
The best support is links to reviews or articles. New sources that write about about its popularity or uniqueness. If it's on a well-known restaurant ranking list near the top. Etc.
The key word is the word "Popular". But it might help to think of the word "Popular" as why that restaurant is better than other restaurants especially chain or franchise restaurants like Dennies/IHOP/Applebees/etc Everyone has given good advice on ways to prove the restaurant is
That said, be prepared to try and submit multiple times or use an appeal. I have one near my house I submitted 4 times. On 4th times it was accepted. Minor tweaks each time, but sometimes with restaurants it's often a matter of luck of reviewers whether you end up on the "Just passed" or "Just Failed" side of the line.
Thank you all for your answers, it helps a lot, I will try to make a better proposition then.
It’s funny because in french the word « popular » has multiple definition, and I understood it in the way « which is made for people » and not for the « well-known » one…
So yeah, I guess I will retry with a better explanation, thanks !
That's good to hear. I thought it might be a translation issue. 🙂
