“Upgrade next” stuck in limbo

After the recent changes upgrade next doesn’t have any affect anymore, but since I applied it before the change, the system doesn’t let me put an upgrade on that submission. So now I have a submission with “upgrade next” that doesn’t work, and I can’t upgrade it. Will this bug be fixed? There’s no way it’s working as intended.

Is it still In Queue or has it entered voting? My understanding is if it’s still In Queue, you can turn off the automatic upgrade setting and then once you earn and upgrade, you can apply the upgrade to that nomination. If it is already In Voting, I think the only way to upgrade it now is to have the automatic upgrades on and it will upgrade when it is your oldest submission and you either have no other nominations In Queue or all of your In Queue nominations are on hold.
It’s still in queue, and my automatic upgrade is off. I earned an upgrade today, and the system lets me use it on any of the submissions, both in queue an in voting (I guess they fixed it), *except* for the one that got “upgrade next” which doesn’t have an upgrade button.
In Voting has an "upgrade" button, but if you use it, it'll error. Or, it did last I heard.
An "upgrade next" from the beforetime can only be upgraded if it's your oldest and you use the automate upgraded setting.
That’s crazy, I have many submissions older than that one. @NianticTintino-ING please pass this to the team, This bug has to be resolved! (I can’t re-submit it, it’s too far away).
just wanna add that i have one stuck in limbo as well. i hope they can fix this soon.
It is one of a few issues with the new system that has been raised with the wayfarer team.
Just wanted to note I am having this same issue. I have one I really wanted to upgrade. It was marked upgrade next, and even though it's still in queue I have no option on the submission to upgrade. This is after working hard to earn another upgrade because my last one was applied to a completely different nomination overnight on 5/4-5/5.
I'm also getting an E2 error when trying to apply the upgrade to a different nomination that's in queue. Guess I'll just sit on my upgrades until they are usable again 🤷♀️

same problem, submission has gone into voting a few days ago now but since it's in a city it will take some time I guess
I have nominations In Voting since February 2022, and In Queue since October 2021. Niantic does not consider that a problem.
The only way to upgrade a nomination marked "Upgrade Next" is to set your "Automatically Apply Upgrades" to YES, and keep earning upgrades until your "Upgrade Next" is the oldest nominated. (Auto upgrades always go to the oldest.) This is working as expected - IOW Niantic doesn't consider this a problem either.
the whole idea with wayfarer was that we shouldnt have to wait years like before back then when niantic manually reviewed sent in submissions and now here we are years later problem still exist when they dumped all that load on the users and its still not working as intended.....
whats the point send in something if its gonna be stuck in a year in limbo based wherever u are ? not very tempting to keep send in new valid poi if nothing happens
Thank you for this. I was able to get it upgraded once I turned my setting back and earned a new upgrade.
