Looks nice but personally im not convinced that peoples personal mail boxes is an appropriate location for a POI.
Think you're submission as a whole is well done, im just not sure about the subject matter.
I like it, but definitely you will have reviewers that think "It's just mailboxes". I don't think changing your description will help it pass. You can resubmit and see if you get a different pool or reviewers, or skip straight to appeal.
They're pretty, but I'm not convinced they stand out enough to be worthy of a wayspot, either. I probably wouldn't 1-star them, but I wouldn't give them a very high rating overall, either (maybe 2-3 stars). That's my impression as a reviewer.
I saw “mailbox” in the title of the thread and I thought “rejection.” Now that I see them, I get it. Those are unique. I don’t know that a nomination could be crafted demonstrably better than what you have here, the issue is the nature of the subject; a mailbox POI feels like an invasion of privacy. I don’t know that I could vote to approve this, but I would want to.
I think in next day or two I'll try one more time. By then my appeal button should be up and I'll let Niantic try.

Supplemental Information this.... do you think it would help or hurt
"I understand that mailbox wouldn't normally be a POI but neither is a wall of a building. Paint a mural on the wall, and now you have a piece of art that is explore worthy. That is the case I am making here. The design here transforms this from a mailbox to a piece of art. And I am nominating as an explore worthy piece of art. It is eye-catching and beautiful and is art"
I think there's an imaginary line for me between "decoration" and "art" and this falls more on the "decoration" side of the line. But it's kind of close to the imaginary line, which is why I say I don't think I'd 1-star it. If you had some good evidence to provide that it was designed by an artist or intended as "art" instead of just "decoration," I think that's what I would need to be convinced.
this isnt so bad. it safe and easy to get to and its not on private property. and it's definitely unique but it will be hard to convince people tho
Not sure if this can really be compared but I know this kind of approach doesn't work very well for sales, i.e. starting with why someone shouldn't buy your product, or in this case starting with why your nomination shouldn't be a POI. I can see a reviewer latching onto that and immediately rejecting it after reading the first four words.
I have also seen people discuss about rejecting "ineligible nominations that try too hard to convince the reviewer they're actually eligible" and this description made me wonder if this is the kind of description they're talking about. Maybe less is more in this case?
A wall doesn’t have grandma’s social security check in it. So to me, that doesn’t address the concern I would have about approving it.
U.S. federal law protects private mailboxes like this.
First, in the 1800s so that legal paperwork can be done thru the mail. Now, people get birth and **** certificates, sign bank paperwork, pay taxes and get refunds, get divorce papers, and more. (Before, you had to go to the federal office, bank, or lawyer's office every time. By horse or by foot.)
Then in the 1900s, Al Capone days, additional laws prevented people from hanging around a mailbox waiting for someone to collect, to intimidate them.
If a group gathered there to play a game, someone could call the police on them.

Do you have any links or source for this @MargariteDVille-ING ? I couldn't find anything related with a Google search.
@JillJilyJabadoo-PGO Google is not my friend tonight. I keep getting email privacy laws, the dimensions of a private mailbox.
But at the least, I think we can agree that it's rude to hang around private mailboxes. They were not painted colors to attract non-residents to hang out there.
So I got it denied on an appeal. Thanks for the appeal, Explorer! The object in question does not meet the Wayfarer criteria as this is a generic mailbox. We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria before submitting your next Wayspot contribution: https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/21-wayfarer/

Not really surprised, giving the fact it was ultimately a mailbox. However, I gotta admit I'm a little salty over it being called a "Generic" lol. It might not be something you feel reaches the level of artwork... or something that should be a wayspot. But it definitely wasn't generic....
I kinda think they are generic. They are painted. But they're just colors. I've seen some truly unique (and tacky) mailboxes around that make you realize how generic these are.
Thanks for following up that it was in fact rejected on appeal.
to each thier own. The pattern of colors as well as the woodwork they are placed in makes a very non-generic combo for me. I havent seen any other mailbox in any apartment/condo/residential neighborhood where I have ever said "wow that looks pretty"
@MysticCapybara-PGO your welcome. Always nice to have some closure on these kind of topics.
