Looking through all the “@Niantic” tags of those still active I think we have 17. Some aren’t admins (in practice) any longer such as @NianticDanbocat or @NianticCasey-ING and we have others who are general Niantic folks such as @NianticPooja but there are probably about 10?
From what I understand, most of the scans people are doing for the stats or trackers are not done properly... just random ground shots while spinning, or going past in cars.
It wouldn't surprise me if 50% of the scans are useless to Niantic.
I don't do scans because I need to save battery power to do annoying photospheres to stop annoying reviewers rejecting submissions I make as I go along....
Possibly, but I do regular scans myself in Ingress and am aware of others who do. I don’t know what Niantic can really do to stop “bad scans” as that’s just useless data for them.
Allegedly, someone had contact with NianticDanbocat during Pokemon GO Fest Seattle. Don't know if it's the case that she still have remotely some connection with Niantic, or its just residual hang outs and communication.
I absolutely detest the AR camera aspects of PoGO. I hate how PoGO keeps trying to force me to use it by making an annoying message pop-up every time I try to catch a pokemon without granting the game camera permissions. I hate how absolutely pointless it is, because all of the stuff that demand AR camera access in this game would work perfectly fine without it. Like, why do I need camera permissions to hurl food at a buddy? WHY? It's not like the buddy actually interacts with the environment (assuming they haven't added this as a new feature since the last time I uninstalled the game). It actually annoys me more than Niantic's attempts to get players to scan, because at least with scanning, I can see what Niantic is getting out of it so I at least get why they're doing it. But using AR to just change the background? It doesn't benefit me, it doesn't benefit Niantic, it doesn't benefit the game. To be fair, it's not that I hate the existence of the feature itself, my hate is mostly for the way Niantic's PoGO team keeps annoying me by shoving the feature in my face and demanding that I grant camera access.
It's somewhat ironic because I'm actually interested in seeing potential new games or new features that use AR camera features. I even tried that new pet-raising game, which at least did something with the camera.
In possibly(?) related news, Lightship has a Community Manager now. Wonder if they’ll pull double duty and do Wayfarer too. An introduction from them from the Lightship Dev Discord!
"Hey Lightship Devs! My name is Chanel (she/her) and I am the new North America Program Manager for the Lightship Community. I am so excited to be here! 😊
I have a background in learning and design and am really interested in immersive technologies like AR for fun and experiential purposes. My top goals are: 1) get to know everyone in the community 2) deeply understand your needs as a developer 3) host great events so we can connect and learn together!
Some of my hobbies include playing field hockey, traveling and experiencing new cultures/foods, and taking care of my little green plant babies! Again, so happy to be here and can't wait to meet you all at the upcoming events!
@NianticTintino-ING is surely very busy attending all the tents at the parks while on the fly thru the different gofest locations. I am sure when he is back he will let you know about the Situation in the team.
Related to this, it seems that the former Harry Potter: Wizards Unite community manager (known as HPWULola on those forums) and the (now former) Peridot community manager, NianticLola was also part of the 8% of cuts.
Takara Tomy, which owns the rights to Transformers in Japan, has announced a location-based game called TRANSFORMERS ALLIANCE, developed not by Niantic but by the Japanese branch of Snowpipe (a Korean-headquartered company).

when RedSoloCup left, basicly the whole thing collapsed.
How many admins we have now? I never payed that much attencion but is less than 10 right?

i think Niantic Pooja was once with the wayfarer team, but isnt anymore.
Someone correct me if she is. She made a posting once that was a bit skewed.
I think Pooja just covers when needed, alongside her main role. She’s done Ingress posts etc. before as well.
It's a small group indeed. Everything will get even slower.😑

As for photospheres, that’s what the 360 camera is for if I know I’m off somewhere new!

I wonder if she still had a ticket via Niantic and attended anyways.

So does that mean that @NianticTintino-ING is no longer Community Manager? I swear. Niantic goes through more CMs than most people go through socks.
Who knows. I’m sure we will get some kind of announcement on the 12th of Nevertember to update us all.
I don't think that Tintino was the Lightship community manager.
They said new North American Community Manager……@PkmnTrainerJ-ING you can still try for rest of world 🤔
Shall do. I’ll cover Europe. Just gotta find the perfect Futurama GIF for my interview.
Chanel is obviously aiming the greeting at Lightship Devs (aka customers). Not us data donors (Wayfarers).

Hopefully it’s not NianticThia next.
☹️😢
Someone in another social space asked about the Pokémon GO Community manager. Don’t worry. They’re still around.
@PkmnTrainerJ-ING
For those of you who have been following the goings-on of the Niantic staff, here's an interesting topic for you.
(For the record, I personally don't watch Niantic staff that closely, but I do watch the future that Niantic is creating with great interest.)
Here is a web article from Japan IT Media provided last night.
Takara Tomy, which owns the rights to Transformers in Japan, has announced a location-based game called TRANSFORMERS ALLIANCE, developed not by Niantic but by the Japanese branch of Snowpipe (a Korean-headquartered company).
It appears to have AR scanning.
Presumably this game is a Japan local location-based and AR game. (I haven't played it yet)
Anyway, who's this @NianticOtoStar guy? The forum's new staff?
These main Niantic folks are really dropping off. Next up, the lead game designer for Peridot.
so Peridot is still in development. That is at least something that wasnt really known.
The image didn't load for a second and I thought you were just making an incredibly plausible joke. That's a shame but not surprising.
Guessing the company is also feeling the pinch of the impending doom that is RECESSION.
