Wayfarer Criteria Challenge - Discussion

Hello Explorers,
I’m excited to share the very first Wayfarer Challenge of 2022! As I mentioned yesterday in the New Wayfarer Challenges! post, we’ll be hosting several challenges over the coming weeks that’ll be a bit different than we’re used to… and that includes the rewards too. For our first challenge, we’re focusing on something we’ve been hearing from you all and our Ambassadors for some time now: improving the Wayfarer Criteria.
Wayfarer Criteria Challenge:
For this Challenge, we want to focus on the Wayfarer Criteria by further clarifying the criteria that the community finds most challenging… the most on the fence about if you will. This challenge will collect all of our participants' challenge submissions and the top three most submitted will be chosen to be elaborated on by myself and members of the Wayfarer Team.
To participate and put your top criteria selection into the pool, all you’ll need to do is log into Wayfarer, review contributions, and when you come across a contribution that you find to be the most confusing to you, take a screenshot of it and submit it to the Criteria Challenge Form (1 submission per person & must be another Explorers contribution, not your own). Once you take the screenshot you can continue with the review as you normally would. Make sure that your screenshot includes only the Main Photo, Title & Description, and Supporting Information

Timeline:
The Wayfarer Criteria Challenge will be a week long - beginning today August 17, 2022 and running through the end of August 24, 2022 (PST). At that point, we will close the challenge and form submissions.
Rewards:
- New Wayfarer Forum Badge
- All participants will get a newly created Wayfarer Forum Badge on their profile
- 1 Upgrade
- All participants who submitted within the same criteria as the winning top 3 criteria (from the challenge form criteria drop down menu) and review at least 100 nominations will receive an Upgrade
We’ll post the results in the community on August 30, 2022 and add it to the existing Criteria page as well. And that’s it! Feel free to submit any questions below and keep an eye out for the next Wayfarer Challenge coming soon after this one.

Safe Exploring!

The form is giving me a permission error, could you check that everything is set up correctly @NianticTintino? :)
To elaborate:
I'm sure my questions will be cleared up once I can see how the form is set up.
Am I the only one that has problems understanding what this kerfuffle is about?
Giving an example of a top submissions when looking for confusing ones is kinda making me wonder if understand the challenge correctly. But on the other side I can't even open the form to enter so.. lol
@NianticTintino There will be no problems submitting a screenshot that shwoing a review that is not in English, right? Since we can't add translations to it ourselfs if we can only submit the review itself to the form once it's up and running
Haha how do you get it to look like that?
I really can't understand what do you mean.
Top three most submitted? With worldwide reviews?
This is going to be a dumpster fire that is manipulated by multi-account abusers lmao
like basicly everything here.
I am having the same issue.
At the end of the day, the community holds the final say on what gets accepted. No amount of criteria updates will change that. They need to put gatekeepers with DIRECT access to Niantic to Police the game-board more efficiently. Which in turn will encourage trainers to more closely follow criteria guidelines.
I think there are going to be categories we can select from a drop-down menu. The people that picked the top 3 of these categories will be the ones that get rewarded. This seems stupidly arbitrary.
Are we allowed to submit screenshots of our own nominations? The challenge details only give instructions on finding other people's nominations and doesn't specify that your own nominations aren't eligible.
By reviewing on the computer, not on mobile.
The challenge is:
Between now and August 24, review 100 or more wayspots. Save screenshots of the ones you have a hard time deciding. Choose ONE to post in the challenge forum.
After August 24:
There will some kind of voting, and some kind of prizes.
This is disappointing and unfortunately not rewarding.
I can do the reviews, submit something, be unfortunate enough to not be in the top 3 and receive no reward.
I don't really see the incentive, sorry :(
I'll do 500 reviews over the next week.
Don't reward me with any upgrades, instead pick the 10 most common submissions that people find confusing or are unsure about and precisely clarify the criteria for them.
The form is now viewable.
Thank you. Changed the setting now :)
How do we get a screenshot with all three in it?
When you do add these three clarifications will they be on the website rather than buried away in this thread somewhere?
So I get an Upgrade just by sheer concidence?
That's not a challenge. That's gambling. It's called a lottery.
From reading the announcement I had no idea what we are supposed to be doing. But looking at the submission form, what we're really doing here is trying to figure out which "What is It?" classification creates the most confusion for reviewers? Is that right?
it is a bit limiting to those who only review on mobile; they can't get a single screenshot with all the required info on mobile. just putting that out there.
My Samsung has an auto rotate mode, your phone probably has something like that.
What do i care if this criteria is used or this?
Criteria is something that Niantic uses for itself and "other" purposes.
Neither a Ingress nor a Pokemon Go player has any use for "Criteria".
I am surprised this is the first part of the contest. There are many confusing and iffy nominations posted here, Reddit, discord, etc. why limit clarifying things to a contest when it could be done more frequently and more transparently on the forum? With calrifications then updated on the wayfarer site. This feels like a very limited version of AMAs we’ve had previously.
Wayfarer is free work for Niantic in exchange to benefit players who play the games. Why is the limited amount of information we get (to help do the free work) being put behind a contest? It feels like Not the best way to increase engagement.
This seems like something Niantic should be doing every 3 months as an audit of the system.
Mobile users: some webbrowsers have a "long screenshot" or "scrolling screenshot" function, some phones have it even built in in their OS. There are also apps which can do this on the playstore, not sure for iOS. That way you can participate here without any problems making the screenshots for the entry to the form
Sorry I meant desktop mode on chrome.
