@PkmnTrainerJ-ING clearly having my name stuck to a wayspot doesn't appeal to me, because the persons that misuse that information know how to.

99,5 of the pogo community do not know how to see this information.

Having my name exposed isn't a good thing, and it isn't a recognition. Most people in my area know this anyway, and 99,5 % of them have not thanked me in any way personal or via Messenger.

I don't think it's even possible to turn off the adding your username feature?

That’s fair enough. I started doing a “New PokéStop/Gym Alert” on my local groups when I got things approved, to make them aware of new items on the map, which helped get some recognition and thanks from that.

Maybe you could try doing that to your local groups if recognition via Messenger etc. is your aim?

I don’t broadcast the info that something has been approved- I leave that for everyone to find for local ones. Tube of smarties too person who spots one 😂

But there are always messages a week or so later saying “ how long has that been there for” 😂

I just checked PoGo. I cannot, for the life of me, find where my username is for the photo/stop. I know you play Ingress, but are you sufficiently across PoGo to give this 'cranky old so-and-so ' a bit of a heads up on where to find it? Pretty please? 🤷‍♂️

  • No1ofConseqence-PGONo1ofConseqence-PGO Posts: 161 ✭✭✭

Never mind! A later message sufficiently clued me in. I had no idea that 'feature' was there.

  • PkmnTrainerJ-INGPkmnTrainerJ-ING Posts: 5,127 Ambassador

Glad to see you found it. I imagine most Pokémon GO players have no idea it’s there but that’s on the Pokémon GO team if they want to advertise/push that I guess.

  • BochumJules-PGOBochumJules-PGO Posts: 498 ✭✭✭✭

Exactly, you could do that in the form of a logo or symbol, e.g. next to the name a small PokéBall for PoGo & for Ingress the Ingress logo!

That wouldn't work for those cases where people request to remove "old, outdated photos" or any other random reason about the photo quality.

Something i would consider as a good recognition by Niantic:

My personal Wayspot with my Name

Saying "GOLDEN POKESTOP for Trainer Rodensteiner!" (Or GOLDEN PORTAL for Agent Rodensteiner)

WHERE i want it in my selected "Hometown" and 10km Radius. Login and place it anywhere I Want.

Let´s say it needs 25.000 Reviewed Wayspots and 1.000 Nominations !

    • That would give people a real boost to review AND nominate.

  • tp235-INGtp235-ING Posts: 1,383 ✭✭✭✭✭

At this stage, if you check the Pokémon GO photos, you can roughly, find the date when wayspot appeared.

    1-29 days, 1~11 months, 1-9 years.

That will tell you which is the original photo.

It might be a good idea to incorporate this into Ingress.

If possible, I would like to create a time-lapse video of the portal, so it would be even better to know the exact date and time.

When the Wayfarer native application launches, I would be happy to see a centralized view of Ingress and Pokémon GO regardless of type.

Rewards will create more issues. It is how life works. The system is already gamed. It will get gamed more and we will get even worse accepted nominations. Are there better ways to make the game more engaging. There is no way of building a reward system in nominating/reviewing that will not result in gaming the system at multiple layers of the game and process.

So what are the other ideas are there that can encourage better participation and rewards. That address the three key criteria of socialising, exploring and exercising.....

I made this point earlier. It is becoming harder to nominate anything half decent as a POI as most of the the good stuff has already been nominated and so many people can nominate.

The quality of nominations is decreasing. And the game in some area is becoming crowded out with so many poor nominations being accepted. And people nominate, review and approve for multiple reasons. Some good. Some bad. And more people are banding together to get stuff through successfully.

And we know there are a lot of poor reviewers for whatever reason..

Lets be clear. I nominate. I review. I will benefit from rewards. I just disagree as there are much much much bigger issues to deal with and I know it will make things worse in an area of the game that is already suffering from decreasing quality POI's and swiftly diminishing pool of possible POIs

So what other ideas exist to make the game better. I want better quality nominations. I want more fun activities. And challenges. Maybe some related to your score overall. Like level related. More daily lure type things that get you out and about. I want XP raids back (might be back and I just missed it). And greater benefits for more people.

    Lets think differently.

I totally disagree. As you say yourself, most of it is already in the game and the quality of the nominations is declining, but this will not get worse because of a gift or a handful of EXP/Stardust, the rewards would be too small for that that players bother to do. it doesn't work in premium items like 5 raid passes or incubators. Most players who nominate something, nominate 2-3 objects, mostly something right in front of the front door for a home stop and then leave it all. The contribution is intended to "reward" especially those who deal a lot with Wayfarer and something for build their community. In addition, the gift, in addition to the confirmation email, should also be an indication that Wayspot actually appeared in the game.

That may not be a problem, but if there are no Ingress agents in the surrounding 100 km from the past to the present, and the characteristics of the town are such that it is easily passed by travelers, we may see a case of missing it.

On the other hand, if there are a reasonable number of wayspots and they are not unnaturally wayspots, it is possible that the administrator removed them due to some trouble.

On the other hand, in the case of a complete locality, the category to be disavowed may be in the same building. (e.g. K-12)

This should be kept in mind.

I totally get it. There are absolutely cracking nominations still to be made. I found a spot recently and got some gold out of it. But it is an ever decreasing pool. The number of players and the near finite number of many objects. Not truely finite as there will always be set of new things. Just not on the same scale as when it began

    My points were

Rewards are not the only way

Rewards will cause more issues, Whether is status awards, badges or in game benefits. It is already happening.

There are better things we can be doing to improve the game.

In some countries there are certain objects that are truely awful. In Australia State Survey Markers. In Japan they have their own issues. In the UK the acorn trail markers. I am sure other countries have their own things. You now have areas where the only nominations are tiny 2 to 3 inch discs nailed to the ground. I was talking to someone the other day who claims that is all they nominate as it is the fasted way to their badge and they have done over 300 of them

You only have to see the quality of reviewing to know that people just rush through to get as many done as quickly as possible.

And the initial opening title was all about rewards for accepting nominations. Surely it should all be about the quality of reviewing or nominating. It is a very singular self serving bias. And only rewards very specific behaviours. It is not about what is good for the game in any way.

A reward system should be focused on quality. Not just an ability to nominate pokestop. Maybe a peer based voting system on the top 25 accepted nominations each year for each county/state/country. Focused on them meeting the Social - Explore - Exercise criteria. With the ability to select why they should be not allowed as well (using the same selection/rejection nominaton review criteria). A nominator can only be in once. you only vote X number of times. And you can only vote once on one pokestop. So each year each new poke stop say has a vote feature. The ones with the most votes go the top 25. Once you have a list of 25 voting is done on a top 10 sliding scale by the voter. (can only vote once). Of the voters and depending on the # of voters x portion also get 1000 candy. Encourages people to get out, to participate, to think about quality. Making this up. Still open to being gamed. But maybe something like that.

I still want to see more in game features that support quality. That support the acts of social, exploration and exercise. And features that benefit all game players.

@JillJilyJabadoo-PGO Yup. And, while it would be nice to have that 'cool little thankyou', I've also come to the belief the Wayfarer medal in PoGo should be removed. I believe... though admittedly without proof other than its a logical explanation... that a lot of the bots have a lot to do with people chasing after the 1500 Wayfarer Agreements to get the platinum medal.

Many players seem to think it is an easy medal to get when...

    • to attain Level 44 requires 5 platinum level medals
    • to attain Level 46 requires 10 platinum level medals
    • to attain Level 48 requires 20 platinum level medals
    • to attain Level 50 requires 35 platinum level medals

It is not hard to see, therefore, that there are going to be those in the higher levels that have not even attained their first agreement will then do whatever they can to smash through the 1500 necessary for platinum level to get the platinum medal for one of the 35.

Just my thought, for what it's worth.

Maybe they shouldn’t have set it at such a low level. Compared to Ingress where Bronze is 100, Silver is 750, Gold is 2,500 and then Platinum is 5,000. There’s a level higher in Ingress at Onyx with 10,000 needed.
