I probably submitted my entry under the wrong criteria to get full credit for the challenge - basically a generic-type chain coffee place under coffee place and not "Restaurant" which will probably be the more popular category - they do serve food there, after all. I wish the Challenge categories were placed into logical groupings and not so specific! "Food and Drink" category for restaurants of all types, pubs, coffee spots, bakeries, and the like, "Public Art" for murals, mosaics, sculptures....just would give more people the chance to actually meet the challenge goals.
Appeals would be great examples. Both when Niantic overrode the community decision AND when Niantic agreed with thbe community - even tho the nominator disagreed.
THOSE are things that people are demonstrably not clear about.
Demonstrably as in: How many trail marker appeals did we get before the clarification? How many did we get after the clarification? If the numbers go down, the clarification helped. If they go up, the clarification did more harm than good. If they stay the same, we need more info. (The math would have to be nuanced, for nominations originally rejected years ago, appealed now. New clarifications won't fix an incorrect reject made in 2018.)
I submitted my entry but I'm not sure if I've done the required 100 reviews as I forgot to screenshot my total at the start. I wish there was a way to keep track. It feels like I'm close to 100, but I could be way off haha
We have an update that we hope will give more clarity and time for more to participate in the Wayfarer Criteria Challenge. First update, is to share more about our purpose for this challenge. For this challenge, our intention is to start tackling the Wayfarer Criteria. As some of you may understand, addressing our criteria is a huge undertaking to say the least. This challenge is one of our approaches to making sure we do it right; but we needed a place to start. This challenge will provide us with 2 major things:
Which criteria are the most in need of being addressed. We know there are more than just 3 that need addressing, but this gives us a good starting point
Clear examples provided by the community for us to consider and respond to. This will allow us to respond with context and we will be able to see what you see. So, please take full advantage of the question section at the end of the challenge submission form.
I’m excited for the larger impact this challenge will bring & hope that it will provide the much needed space to address it. The conversation won’t end after this challenge. The Wayfarer Team and I hope to address all criteria once we get this first attempt right and will be bringing in our Ambassadors along the process.
The last update, we are extending the challenge timeline to allow for more submissions until 11:59pm PST on August 31, 2022. The new date for posting our responses will be September 2, 2022.
Thank you again for your participation and safe exploring!🗺️
Thank you for this. I appreciate your take on it and will consider this moving forward.
I like your approach to the challenge, keeping a folder and then submitting the one you think would be best closer to the end of the challenge. Maybe others will do the same, I worry some folks may find this a bit too exhausting or too much work... but in the end it's up to them, but I like your approach! As for the screenshot, this was a challenging point for sure but thankfully we'll be able to look it up since the title should have been included alongside the description and supporting information. While many screenshots may look very similar, we will look with greater detail at those that are under the same category and unique in some way.
While we won't be responding to each person individually, the photos will be used. We have already started scanning through them to get a better visual marker of what the question/comment is speaking to. This will give us the overarching issues, points of confusion, etc.
The Ambassadors I know of could pick the confusing criteria for you that needs to be addressed first.
The reviewer who just reads enough criteria to pass the test (thank you for that at least) and only know Wayspots from live game locations is a completely different reviewer from those of us who frequent the forum trying to find out how NIANTIC wants us to review things. If this challenge was supposed to get new reviewers to ask questions ... tbh, they probably never saw it.
Saw the updated time frame. I thought maybe I could make it to 100 and then I found a confusing sign at a park. I read the rules and found the google form, which took multiple clicks to find. But I’m on my phone and can’t upload more than one screenshot, and can’t fit the required info in one screenshot. Bonus issues were that the thick header bar got in the way in landscape mode, and the site can’t be pinched to zoom out. So I’m out.
suggestions for next time
put important links in all top level posts. Bonus points if you start with a TLDR that’s the length of a tweet. Acknowledge phone reviewers, Unless I’m in the tiny minority. Also, just have a “this was confusing” button below the submit button and make a confusing flag in the back end to better work with existing reviewer workflow.
Maybe we'll be lucky and the next time we have a challenge of this kind, the Wayfarer app already works or already exists and we can do the whole thing through it!
Arrgghh with the new deadline I probably rushed things - was worried about running out of time due to commitments this week (big Ingress event in town - our first major!) so I sent in my example already. It's hard to successfully tread these shifting sands!
Hi. With the expanded time frame, I'm going to push more to get my locals involved in this challenge. I just wrote out the full list of criteria categories y'all have on your form. I like them. I think you've captured most of the big tickets items that are discussed here, on Reddit, in discord servers, and other places we nerds gather online.
But there's at least one that makes my eye twitch. I think it would be good to define the kind of "Rehabilitation Center" you're talking about. I assume that you're talking about substance abuse therapy or maybe mental health therapy. Don't forget that there are centers for physical rehabilitation out there as well. Physical rehabilitation often looks for ways for people to engage in recreational activities as part of their therapy. So having POI available to persons undergoing that kind of therapy can actually be a therapeutic tool. Technically that could be true with mental health as well, but there's definitely more sensitivity around persons undergoing that type of therapy.
I work at a large institution that does physical (and speech and occupational and more) therapy for persons who have experienced traumatic injuries. I'd be happy to explain more about the nuances of this and how any clarification needs to accommodate this kind of usage.
I am under no illusion that this category will be one of the top 3 - I'm just putting it out there for future work you'll do on criteria clarifications.
I know this is a little off topic but what if we removed the hard line of yes or no. Then it relaxes all the rules and guess work. Stay with me on this. What if reviewers decided on waypoint or spawn point?
Most of the people taking silly pictures are just looking for more Pokémon. Everyone who plays knows they just have to drive to the nearest city to fill those bags and party raid. Yes it can be annoying if your 30+ minutes from one but that’s the game. Yet there are a lot of people who can only PVP from their house and just want spawn points. This is what causes those people to stop playing. Just give them the Pokémon :)
And what's the point of your argument? Wayfarer isn't just for Pokemon only.
And by the way @NianticTintino how am I supposed to participate this challenge, if all I've reviewed are people asking to rate their nominations 5 stars???
Niantic, you need to sweeten the pot on the rewards. To go through all the trouble of reviewing 100 and submitting a criteria question just for maybe a CHANCE of earning an upgrade? That’s ridiculous. I am left to try to guess which criteria will be in the top three as opposed to submitting a criteria question that I am genuinely confused about. EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATES SHOULD EARN AN UPGRADE!!!! And then give a second free upgrade to those in the Top 3.
I know how you feel, I’ve got a pretty big backlog of in queue/voting of around 255(most of which are 1-2 years old, but my appeal backlog is down to 10 appealed nominations. But better late than never. And I’ve already got a dozen or two things I still need to appeal because we’re getting hammered by bad rejections of really basic 5 star things like pergolas and sports fields.

That would be nice to finally be able to see edits and photos.

Just do another 100 just to be sure

Well I might make the 100 now 🤔

Although inaccurate, I'll admit I enjoyed reading this 😅
😮 you've been caught @SeaprincessHNB-PGO
Great question! Yes, please feel free to submit edits. Make sure to add the context in the question part of the form :)

We're keeping track of this. I'll be sharing the total number of participants at the end.

I don't want anyone to get extra appeals until MY backlog of appeals actually begin to be looked at.

Are you on iPhone or Android? There may be a way to take scrolling screen shots that take more of the page into the shot, at least my Android does it.
I completely agree. I am extremely confused by it as well
has this been extended at all? I missed out submitting ... rough week.
@ZinkyZonk-ING indeed it has been extended to 31 August.
Hope you have a better week this week!
Thanks @HaramDingo-ING 😁

There is a lot to learn from this criteria challenge - if only this:
Doing it this way is not a good idea 💡
@NianticTintino Please talk to someone (maybe in confidence via online meeting) from the communithe.
There isn't a dry eye in the forum about this.
One more day until the post. Can't wait to see the forum badge.

Is it done?
Did anyone go for criteria they wanted clarified or take a chance on the lucky lotto?
