My home town is a banned word

Hi Nianitc,
Any of my nominations that mention the town name of 'Virginia' in County Cavan, Ireland, go into Niantic voting and just sit there. I imagine it's the word 'virgin'. It normally only takes less than a week in this quite rural area. What can I do about this other than not mention my town name? I know of one other player who has the same issue. Do I just have to wait it out? I could alter the description and resubmit and have these marked as duplicates otherwise.

@NianticGiffard @NianticTintino-ING @NianticAtlas please someone help this person! I don't know who to tag anymore. @Gendgi-PGO do you?
If the nominations are only being pulled when you mention the town name, don't mention it.
If they have got into voting then you are not having a "banned word" problem, this would have been caught on submission. Not many reviewers in your area - apply an upgrade.
The screenshot shows Niantic voting, not regular voting.
There's been a lot of speculation that nominations that immediately get taken into Niantic voting are being taken because of the word filter. Unfortunately Niantic won't actually say anything about this feature/issue (likely because if it is something that's genuinely happening, they don't want people abusing it by deliberately including words that will send it straight to Niantic).
On the plus side, it isn't throwing up a banned word error, so that's progress, but the filter still needs a complete revamp so that instances like this don't happen any more.
I second to leave out the town name. You can add it with a description edit later. If the name is being auto-detected from the address, hopefully one of the Niantic people tagged earlier can do something.
You have hit the same issue described here:
It could just be that you got taken into Niantic Voting as they do have to review a certain amount themselves.
It's most likely that your edit changed something like you say though.
What did you remove and put in its place?
It does say here they are working on it which would make me assume it's not intended but you know Niantic/Communication/Obfuscation...
It’s described by a later post I made in that thread - it is effectively the same word OP is having a problem with.
There are two issues with nominations being taken into Niantic Voting recently - many of the nominations being instantly taken do not contain any “triggers” which caused them to be taken. These nominations are reviewed and either accepted or rejected. Nominations which are taken due to certain words (as covered by that thread) have not resolved yet to my knowledge.
This is the “insta-vote” issue - many of these do not contain any triggers, though they can. If they don’t contain triggers, Niantic does review them.
While they have acknowledged this issue and said they are working on it, I would not be surprised if their fix only addresses the “non-trigger” insta-votes and not the ones which they are pulling due to naughtiness.
Oh, apologies. looks like you are on it already.
What do you make of this?
It's not the word Ham or Pond. It's not location or category that triggered it.
Yours honestly has me stumped - I do think you’ve hit a trigger, but nothing jumps out at me.
There was some previous speculation that “association” could be problematic, but if that were the case, I would have expected my nomination with “assist” to have been taken too, and it wasn’t. That said, I haven’t explicitly tested association.
If you put the one that’s currently In Queue on hold, you should be able to figure out by editing in one word at a time for the description and supporting, refreshing the page after each edit to see if it got stolen.
I'll give it a go :D
I wish I hadn't written so much verbose nonsense... :/
Nothing, stayed in queue after each added word.
That’s really weird - having so many identical nominations immediately go into niantic voting usually means there is a trigger word, but in all cases previously, it has been possible to determine which word it is by editing them in.
I wonder if I could have encountered this with “assist” but didn’t because I edited it in instead of submitting with it.
That’s bizarre considering ‘Virginia’ is a state in the US with plenty of stops that must have the name it them. Plus ‘Virgin Mary’ statues are pretty popular stops too.
It's not Association :/
Virgin is definitely a banned word. I tried to submit a Virgin Mary statue a couple of days ago and it would not upload until I removed the word. Why is virgin a banned word anyway, especially considering the state of Virginia and Virgin Mary Statutes just as examples? Virgin isn't a bad word.
