User Generated Content in the Real-World Metaverse
Hi Explorers!
The Niantic User Experience Research Team is running a survey and wants to hear from you! We're helping spread the word of their efforts in hopes that they get to hear from our Explorer community. They’re looking for participants interested in content generation and the real-world metaverse. If you are interested in participating, please complete the attached survey.
Participants who complete the survey and join a focus group the week of September 26, 2022 (next week!), will be rewarded with a $30 (USD) reward. Your participation is greatly valued and may shape the future of content creation in the real-world metaverse! This survey is open to all Explorers, however at this time only English is supported for the focus groups.
Safe Exploring!

Can anyone explain what this is supposed to be about?
Wayfarer explorers add wayspots, which later appear in games. It counts as content creation I guess. Does the content appear in real-world metaverse - not sure, the wayspots appear in augmented world, where players can interact with portals, so probably yes.
soo dear @NianticTintino , i am still waiting for the day we will meet up for tacos. in the meanwhile, i have problems understanding what this kerfuffle is about? I hope you can explain a bit more about this. Thank you.
Take an 11 question survey. Take part in a zoom focus group if chosen.
I got chosen! 😁
Me too!
Nice. I'm interested in what they'll ask. although quite often you are not allowed to share info
Any focus groups I've done in the past asked for a signature to not to share info and were attended by a diverse range of people with questions like
What is your opinion about x?
What do you think of x when we do this with it?
Would you use x if it was widely available?
Do you think x is more user friendly than y?
etc etc.
I wasn’t chosen 😂 but I could tell as I went through the demographics and questions I would not be what they are after……and I only have a slightly better grasp of what they are after.
Most focus groups would want people who are knowledgeable and people who are hardly even aware of their product.
Anyway you can't spend $$$ here :D
I wont be chosen because a) I don't use any of the apps they are asking about and b) full time "AR only" based games are never going to take off. (Yes - I know PoGo has AR, but I have yet to come across anyone anywhere using the AR function all the time "in the wild".)
Do we know when the reward will be given?
Most people that play pogo a lot use the ar function in the wild catching. It makes quick catching a lot faster and also if done right(quick and short curveball throwing motion) the pokemon will stay idle while throwing. They wont knock your ball away or move causing you to whiff ha.
I don't think I've met anyone who does that. Most people find it annoying.
During community days, certain events or spotlight hours when you are trying to get a lot of xl candy like the upcoming litwick community day where the pokemon is very useful raiding & 2x the chance at xl candy or events with extra xp I could not imagine ignoring all the extra xl candy or xp you can earn. Plus it is only annoying if you are driving. It is simple after 15min or so of practice walking or being the passenger in a car. On top of that you go from around 450-500 caught per hour all the way up to 850-900 caught in an hour(assuming 0 run). That is a lot of wasted xl candy or xp you could've earned.
I haven’t heard of this either. I find those who want to do quick catching have an accessory like Pokémon GO Plus or a Poké Ball Plus.
Yes most people that do this also use an accessory. If you time it right you can catch one every time on your accessory when you click on one. All the hardcore players use the ar method or they are wasting their time haha. And tan actually claims he catches 1000-1200 an hour. He has a lot more practice than me ha. I have only caught around 375k he is way beyond that. Just google quick catch ar. Tons of videos. Here is a video on all the tips to speed up the catch process from taking 20sec to 3.5sec per encounter.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp4P-T2hkkQ
Xp isn't much use to me, neither is Chandelure or Chandelure XL.
Irrespective of my own experience I honestly don't think the majority do this. Even hardcore grinders that I know don't do this.
@PkmnTrainerJ-ING All hardcore players use this method. And yes they also use a go plus which allows them to catch an additional Pokemon per Pokemon encountered. Tan claims you can catch 1000-1200 per hour so I am a little slow. He has also caught a trillion compared to me at around 375k haha. Here is a video explaining how to go from only catching one per 20sec to one per 3.5sec. Tons of other videos if you google quick catch ar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp4P-T2hkkQ
I’ve no idea who Tan is, and this is veering off Wayfarer related conversation.
Everyone that said xp was of no use to them when I offered to coordinate friendships when the cap was level 40 kicked themselves for it.Never know when levels will go up again. I am always chasing it and I am over 350,000,000xp now. Thats how I hit level 50 11:00am the next morning after it was possible(no niantic help with skipping required tasks like sending gifts). I can understand not chasing litwick if you do not raid, but I raid a lot(6262 legendary raids) and sometimes the difference in winning is having that extra level 50 chandelure in your lineup so very important to me.
No idea who Brandon Tan is? The top player in PoGO in almost every category and expert at PVP? Yeah probably time to stop explaining how to play PoGo then. I agree lets get back on topic.
I play the game but don’t know any of the “influencers” and such overly.
If that helps you with the game, that’s nice but it’s not something that everyone necessarily needs knowledge of to be able to enjoy playing.
On the subject, I have several Wayspots around me that I’ve scanned to good VPS levels but the switch hasn’t been hit.
Is there a day/time that Niantic switch on VPS for those with enough scans @NianticTintino-ING ?
XP is of no use to me. Even before I reached 50 I didn't care. I have very few lvl 50 mons, I haven't failed a raid since early 2017. Obviously if you enjoy that bragging side fine, each to their own but it is in no way necessary to play, enjoy PoGo or win raids.
I'm sure Brandon Tan is a lovely man but with all due respect I wouldn't go to him for PvP information.
Only lvl 50 I have
Getting back on topic though... I still don't know anyone who plays pogo for the AR. You even only put it on to get more XL, XP.
Unless you really love AR?
I know 1 person who loves using the AR to take pics of the Pokémon in different settings.
The rest just ignore it.
or is this something we just can’t be bothered about in the U.K. 🤔
I don't think it's country specific.
Ironically I find in its current form it removes me from the experience of playing as opposed to immersing me more in it.
The only use for AR is to save seconds quick-catching during Comm Days. it is a battery drain, its sluggish, and most experienced players eventually realize that its just not useful otherwise.
I know this will not be passed onto anyone and will fall on deaf ears: but for the sake of ranting, before sinking time and resources into a feature that mostly only first-month noobs care about... Maybe focus on making your game better. Fixing game-breaking bugs, stopping any rollbacks of QOL improvements we've had and gotten used to since 2020. Why you've been intentionally making gameplay *less enjoyable* for players is beyond me. Maybe even try doing an OSM map/spawn update, something you said would happen monthly but did once and then stopped doing *three freaking years ago*.
You're like the lazy unemployed boyfriend with a Soundcloud because "eventually Ill make it big", says "I'll get a job I promise", puts out one handful of resumes then never puts forth any more effort.
Again for those in the back at the Niantic conference room: before even thinking about AR, maybe worry about making sure you have a fun game first. You can't build a solid house on a foundation of rotten wood.
Niantic are an AR company that happens to have lucked out making some successful games, so they will be talking AR first and games second
This can be seen in Peridot which is AR on all the time.
Your other comments need to be directed via the Pokémon GO social media or in app support as Wayfarer can do nothing about game specific things.
I'm glad that my comment sparked a conversation but does anyone care to actually reply? xD
Do we know when the $30 giftcard will be handed out? Has anyone gotten it yet?
Did you take part in the focus group?
Yeah, this is why I am asking. It's my first time taking part in a focus groups so I don't know when the rewards are given.
