Mile markers

Is there any consensus as to if mile markers on trails should be accepted? I had been accepting them as a good place for exercise, but then I read the thread here regarding disc golf tees and it seems like a similar situation where they are too generic for the given area and should be rejected. It doesn't seem like there's truly a consensus on anything here but interested in thoughts anyway.

Trail markers are fine. The reason for disc golf tees not really being eligible by themselves is that there should be one POI to represent the course as a whole, as you go to visit the golf course rather than specifically hole 12 or 7 or whatever, and it also shouldn't be in the way of disc golf players. A trail is much more spread out in comparison and so having markers that help with navigating it is fine, as different people may walk different parts of it.
yes they promote exercise so they are acceptable
Giffard, who isn’t around any more, once said that basically anything that can be called a trail marker is acceptable, even when they’re generic and part of infrastructure and repetitive and boring and put the reviewer into a coma because they get 30 identical ones in a row, each placed approximately 20 meters from the last.
@HankWolfman-PGO I think I agree in general, but then I review submissions like this one where the mile markers are every tenth of a mile.
I reviewed the submission for the 1.5 marker and the 1.4 is already a Wayspot. My judgement call on this one was that it's too generic for the area. But for trails with mile markers every mile or half mile it still seems like a reasonable Wayspot.
I see nothing wrong with this type of nomination*.
On most trails, there will be no other type of Wayspot available. Is it so bad to have similar trail markers every 160 meters? If somebody is going to walk and explore a trail, it gives them details to track their distance and maybe push them a little further.
Yes, at a certain point they feel generic, redundant, and unnecessary, but so will any nomination if you decide to approach it with that attitude.
*Recently, my city installed trail markers every .25 miles. I nominated 50 so far on my most frequented trails but I have hundreds more to do. I really liked the ¼ mile distance as it didn't feel too exhausting as a submitter, and more than half I ended up using upgrades on.
Hi,
The object is generic or visually not interesting or unique. Approving every mile-mark is ridiculous In my opinion. It's not an exciting spot at all.
Not exciting to you perhaps. Maybe you are not the target audience. But for people who use the trail for exercise they are. And exercise is one of the three eligibility criteria.
