Agreed with the safe pedestrian access. The Philippines is also a very similar neighbour where "pedestrian access" is stepping over strangely open drains with cars passing pretty close along the way.
P.S. I mentioned Bali in a previous post. The nomination that I submitted there at Ngurah Rai Airport has been sitting 'In Queue' for over 20 days. It's next to a smoking area wayspot. I'm a bit surprised given how dense it is, or reviewers have already moved on. If you find it, gimme a holla!
There was an interesting comment from NianticAaron this morning on a hometown reset request that said "We are currently unable to make these requested changes due to some issues in the backend. We are working on it and you can expect a fix in near future. Thanks for your patience."
If we can change our hometown instead of our bonus for this challenge that would mean our review area would be 4X as large. This would not change much for the smaller and thinner islands like near Jakarta since most of the expanded area is over water. There would be much larger gains on the bigger islands though. Hometown also gets more preference in your review queue than bonus so we would likely see more Indonesian nominations to review. (Unlike the issues with the India challenge)
Does anyone currently reviewing in Indonesia have a few examples of common reviews they vote on that you would be willing to post? It can be helpful to see what an experienced reviewer sees as a good local nomination so we don't set our standards too high.
I don't think any experienced reviewers would find good local nominations (acceptable POIs with good presentation on supporting information) during the challenge, so well...
I mean if you need examples then here's the latest 3 nominations I've reviewed:
Does anyone know if Indonesia uses any special characters to mean different things? Like in Norway they often use <> the same way Americans would use ".
Maybe I should list POI categories that are commonly nominated—and high chance to be accepted (depending on the content) here:
1. Religious places (mostly mosques);
2. Parks and playgrounds;
3. Sports field (either indoor or outdoor, note that open field of grass with 'goalpost' attached in both ends is also called sports field—yes, that one is for soccer);
4. Murals, statues, water fountains (I've discussed about it earlier);
5. Gazebos (see no. 4);
6. Entrance gates/gateways along with entrance or place name signs, whether they're for urban or rural residences, commercial complexes, or recreational places;
7. Government offices (see no. 4);
8. Local 'landmarks' (whatever local people think about popular places to visit, hence this is not limited to museums or monuments but also shopping malls etc.);
9. Plaques (...this is neither dedication nor memorial, but mainly inaugurational plaques found in buildings, roads, bridges etc. as a commemoration when such objects were constructed);
10. For those picking Bali Island and nearby as bonus location, there are special structures that can only be found there such as 'pelinggih', 'sanggah', padsamana', 'bale kulkul', etc.—those who are ever visited Bali at least once should be familiar with this, perhaps?
Local businesses are sometimes nominated here but they're rarely being accepted due to bad presentation (read: Pokemon GO related texts). If anyone can spare some time then try to look at the reviews of the business by your own.

So don't expect sidewalks and consider grassy verges as "safe access"? Ok. Sounds like rural US. Any other reviewing advice?
My advice for the Indonesia challenge is to not leave the community group up for years afterward, making Indonesian people think they have a dedicated discussion area, like Niantic is doing to India https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/categories/india-wayfarer-challenge And they do not care https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/38785/forum-bug-india-challenge-forum-is-still-open-so-indians-think-it-is-still-good

Do we have exact dates for this challenge?
No. Just sometime "mid February" so probably some time before summer is a reasonable expectation.
The best way to do this would be to include all of Indonesia as a location for all reviewers worldwide for the duration of the challenge only.
There are three locations: current location (country or region when applying the upgrade), home location, and bonus location.
Here, you should be able to review Indonesia by importing it into the country or region of the upgrade.

3.
If anyone interested then try to give ratings to these nominations as exercise. Assuming they can be found in street view (well, they're actually).
I think someone in Indonesia might accept 1,2 and 3
I might accept #2
That is a good question. Here in Brazil we accept a bunch of stuff that I feel outsiders wouldn't.
Does anyone know if Indonesia uses any special characters to mean different things? Like in Norway they often use <> the same way Americans would use ".
Afaik only "@" (means "at") is sometimes used here. Rest of the characters are used as usual.
Although for folks picking Lombok Island for their bonus locations should be extra cautious while reviewing nominations because of this reason.
Hey, more details of this challenge tomorrow?
When we tune in, can you archive all the previous Challenges and AMAs?

It's here! And we get a list of cities in need! https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/40251/global-reviewer-challenge-indonesia#latest
Looks like most of the cities are on the island of Java.
That's because about 60% of population in Indonesia resides on Java. Good trivia to know!
