Global Reviewer Challenge - Spain - Discussion

Hello Explorers,
It’s almost time for our Global Reviewer Challenge in Spain. We’re incredibly excited to share more details about the challenge, some changes, and awesome rewards! We couldn’t have done it without your feedback and the contributions from our Ambassadors. Now let’s get into it as there will be lots to cover:
First, we are happy to announce an easier way for all Explorers to participate in our Wayfarer Challenges. We are introducing a new Wayfarer setting called Wayfarer Challenge, located in your Settings tab within the Wayfarer website
By default Explorers will have this setting turned on. You will be able to turn this setting off if you wish to take a break from the challenge and review nominations from your Home and Bonus locations. Turning it back on will automatically resume your participation in the challenge.
This setting will appear in your explorer profile before the start of the challenge.
Also we changed the logic for pulling challenge reviews from the host location, they now represent a large majority when the Wayfarer Challenge is On.
Timelines:
- Challenge Review Date & Time: May 24, 2023 at 12:00pm UTC - June 7, 2023 at 11:59pm UTC
- Reward Distribution: June 8, 2023 - June 21, 2023
Wayspot Resolution Goal and Rewards:
There are also some changes to the goals and rewards logic. You will see that there are now rewards for Community goals and Individual goals so let’s break that down:
Community Rewards: Community Rewards will be given to all Explorers who participated in the challenge by reviewing 50 nominations or more from Spain during the period of the challenge if a tier goal is reached. Similar to our previous challenges, only one set of rewards will be distributed based on the tier reached. These tiers are based on the number of Wayspot nominations resolved (approved or rejected) within the two weeks span needed to qualify for the Community Rewards.
Individual Rewards: Individual Rewards will be distributed to individuals who participated in the challenge and reviewed the number of Spain nominations specified for each tier. Again, only one set of rewards will be awarded based on how many Spain Reviews you do during the challenge review timeframe.
*Wayfarer Rewards will be rewarded per Wayfarer Account, not per game account*
Eligibility for Rewards:
- You are eligible to participate in the challenge if you are an eligible Wayfarer reviewer (meaning you are at least Level 37 Trainer in Pokémon GO or Level 10 Agent in Ingress and have passed the quiz)
- A target Wayspot resolution goal has been met; and you review at least 50 nominations from Spain during the reviewing portion of the challenge.
- We will confirm whether the Wayspot Resolution Goal has been met and if so, which Tier. The rewards distributed will be based on the Wayspot resolution goal status (Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3) at the end of the campaign. Only one set of rewards will be distributed, such that:
- If at least Tier 1 is reached and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots, you will receive one set of Tier 1 rewards.
- If Tier 2 is reached, and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 2 rewards.
- If Tier 3 is reached, and you have reviewed 50 or more Wayspots during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 3 rewards.
- Game rewards will be distributed by email in the form of a passcode(s), and to your Wayfarer account directly in which you are an eligible Wayfarer reviewer. For example, if you are a Trainer level 37 and an Agent level 5, you will only receive Pokémon GO rewards. If you are eligible in both games, you will receive the rewards in both by June 21, 2023.
- Wayfarer Rewards will be rewarded per Wayfarer Account, not per game account
- Given the above, rewards will be distributed between June 8, 2023 and June 21, 2023.
If you are eligible to participate but have not used Wayfarer before, prepare in advance by creating an account linked to your Pokémon GO or Ingress profiles. After you have signed in, check out the Criteria page and take a quick quiz to learn the basics of Niantic Wayfarer, such as reviewing and voting on nominated Wayspots.
We are very excited to be hosting this challenge for our Explorer Community in Spain. If you have any questions, please ask them in the Spain Challenge categories coming soon!

Sounds fun
I'm glad feedback has been listened to.
The toggle in the settings is great, as is the fact that more nominations from the target location will be shown (it was very painful trying to get Indonesian wayspots to review).
Changing the eligibility for rewards is good as well. 50 reviews from the location sounds like a reasonable bar to set.
I also like the split between community rewards and individual rewards. It's nice to have a specific goal to work towards for yourself, though I get the feeling I'm going to have to manually keep a tally of how many reviews I've done? Maybe a counter can be installed for future challenges?
Overall I'm feeling mostly positive about this :)
This "Individual Rewards", this is regardless if the nomination is accepted, rejected or duplicated, for as long as you review it?
A reminder.
Community reward tiers are based on reviews that resolve in the challenge time frame. You personally only have to do 50 reviews to be included in this pool. But obviously, we all need to hit it hard and early to achieve the higher tiers for this one.
Individual reward tiers are based on Spain nominations reviewed. No need for the reviews that fall into this one to resolve within the challenge time frame.
Personally, I am really happy with the in-game rewards. We are always happy to hear your feedback and ideas for future challenges and rewards. (No promises on what we can do, but we are trying.)
With this new setting, anyone won't need to set their bonus location to Spain, right? I hope more testings are done by Niantic before the challenge start.
By the way,
Paldean Wooper or Paldean Tauros for additional reward please? @NianticTintino-INGThe tab is great. However, some reviewers may find it a bug that one day they suddenly have to review only Spanish candidates. You need to make the challenge known on the web page.
An opt in/out switch? Nice!
Some people in the PoGo community might not find these rewards enticing enough.
Adding raid passes (remote or not) would possibly bring in more reviewers from the PoGo community.
I wonder what the ratio of Spain noms will be? If it is 1:10 it is going to be tough to hit 500. I reviewed 3268 last week and want no part of that again lmao.
Can we get a bonus after-challenge bonus location weekend? Great improvement, I'm excited!
The Community Rewards for Ingress seem better than the Pokemon Go rewards so I'd have to agree with this.
Personally i think that the rewards are not rewarding enough for like doing 500 reviews.
Where is the Joy in there? Add some salsa.
As a wayfinder I love that @NianticTintino-ING has done such great work with El Ambassadors.
The rewards for Pokémon GO are much better than last time, so I am glad to see the feedback taken on board at least.
I'm really looking forward to this!
They are better but why should the average Pokemon Go player that doesn't do any nominations bother for 50 Ultra Balls, 3 Star Pieces, 3 Incense, 3 Poffins and 1 Super Incubator?
Ingress rewards have all the best things, those level 8 stuff can be hard to come by. The best stuff for Pokemon Go is raid passes.
I don't think the exact ratio has been finalized internally, but based on what was discussed it should be significantly higher than 1:10. IIRC, most of the nominations you get while opted in should be from Spain.
Love the toggle!
Question was raised (I don't think of these things) will we be able to see our progress anywhere? Would encourage me to do a few more reviews if I am close to a tier.
Oh, and I love the rewards. I don't think the rewards are or should be intended to make people start reviewing. I think they are just a thank-you bonus to those who do. I certainly don't want someone with no knowledge of how to review starting for a challenge just to get an exclusive Pokemon or something like that.
I will just be happy to not see this every other nomination from being out of things to review for two weeks. Hopefully haha.
Then, special Tauros spawns only from incense for limited time for anyone who have reviewed 500 Spanish nominations?
Because the accounts who spammed SPAIN SPAIN ESPAÑA SPAIN ESPAÑA during voting period back then are mostly GO players that would likely not bother or ineligible to review. It's just fair to have them review at least 50 nominations to get their rewards rather than just review 1 nomination and leave.
And no, there were better rewards from previous Wayfarer challenges that would have you encounter special Pokemon from incense with boosted shiny rate(?), which are much better than some raid passes.
Will I be able to change my bonus location away from Indonesia during this challenge or am I stuck on it?
If we got this, what kind of regional thing could Ingress have for these challenges?
@4thAffinity-ING yes you will be able to change bonus location

This is the single biggest improvement you could have made to the Challenges. My only complaint about it was that it took too long to implement. This should have been implemented soon after the first Wayfarer Challenge when it became clear that using the bonus location to participate in the challenge wasn't practical.
系統會提示已審查的數量嗎?還是要審查員自己計算?如果自己算到500會有點困難。
Will the system prompt for the reviewed quantity? Or is it up to the reviewers to count themselves? It will be a bit difficult to calculate to 500 by ourself.
You could start by taking a screenshot at the start to give a rough idea. The expectation is that when the toggle is on you will be mainly reviewing nominations from Spain. So it would give a rough idea.
I do not yet see the setting toggle in my menu. Is this setting only rolling out to selected people?
The toggle will roll out shortly before the challenge. Nobody has it yet
As mentioned by others, how will i be able to see how many reviews i contributed to the challenge?
Can we please get some clarification about completing a set number of “reviews” versus getting agreements for rewards?
In terms of numbers of reviews done all I can suggest at the moment is that you keep a manual tally.
For the individual rewards it is about completing reviews of nominations from Spain.
For Community rewards it is about the number of nominations from Spain that have been resolved. It is likely that initially nominations that are close to a resolution and therefore don't require much reviewing effort will be quickly resolved. To reach the higher tiers it is important that the community continues to review so that those that require more people to have reviewed them reach a point of resolution.
