Gamestop not valid?

Criteria clearly lists gaming stores as valid waystops. Why has my local Gamestop been rejected twice for "other rejection criteria" and the second time as a "fake nomination" despite supporting pictures showing it where it is and it being visible on streetview? Yeah its a chain, but it's also the ONLY gaming store in town, and has been for like 20 years, so it's important to the gaming community here, as explained in the nomination. Are people just prone to reject any retail chain, even when it's explicitly labeled as valid by Niantic?

At least you know the exception, but the reviewers not. Can you please share your nomination details here?

A wayspot needs to be a great place to exercise, explore or socialise. If you're trying to nominate it as a good place to socialise, the onus is on you to prove that:

    1) it actually holds in store events where people do indeed gather to socialise, rather than simply going there to buy games, and

    2) there really aren't any other gaming stores or facilities in the area that offer this kind of social gathering.

And for what it's worth, I wouldn't count midnight releases as a social event. It's just late night shopping with a really long queue.

Games stores are not automatically eligible. Those that host game nights or tournament events may be eligible, but a retail store will not. I will also note that the list of examples are things that could meet the criteria. However, the burden is still on the nominator to show that what they are nominating does meet the criteria. We don't automatically assume something is eligible just because it is listed among the examples.

I give as much supporting information as I can without writing a textbook on the socio-economic aspects of everything I nominate. I don't get why people are so quick to assume it's an invalid nomination. If I was faced with as well-written and well-photographed a nomination as I've put in, even if I wasn't 100% convinced it was the best place in town to socialize or explore, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. It's not like I didn't put effort in like a lot of the ones I see. Do people know Niantic still won't pay them no matter how critical they are of nominations? We're all just looking to have fun and get more places to play our games within our communities.

And yes I mentioned that they do events and stuff. Other than the midnight releases, etc, they've done Smash tournaments and things like that a number of times before. They've posted about it on social media and everything. Apparently that doesn't matter to reviewers unless I write a 5000 word court-worthy closing argument with witness testimony (except no one will read anything that long anyway). I'mjust frustrated and tired of putting effort into bettering the community when people just seem to be bitter and quick to judge. I don't see any new stops pop up nearby me unless they're ones I nominate, and I don't blame anyone else for not bothering at this point

Chains were held on a more critical lens. Events definitely help, putting it on the first parts of the description helps a lot. Can we see the full nomination? Or texts and photos at least, presentation does a lot. It's not the length that is important but the appeal to less thorough reviewers.

Because GameStop you see in game are sponsored. the stops that you see are agreed upon within game between GamesStop and Niantic.. Just like Starbucks.. if you try to submit those ... would normally be rejected since they were not included in the agreement. Most national chains would get rejected, unless you find an artwork or something unique at that GameStop.

    Hello and welcome @GMiles987-PGO

I appreciate you might not want to reveal where you are, but if you can post even a version of the text etc it would help us to help you review it and improve.

It is frustrating but a place like this is going to be in the middle between accept or reject. So you are likely to need to provide as good a submission as possible.

Do you include links to a Facebook page that shows the events and those social aspects?

Have you tried using an appeal? If locally these tend to be rejected you might have more luck (and it shouldn’t come down to luck) with Niantic assessing it.

As others said, you are thinking more a COMIC book store, that has tables and events and people hang out to play games and such.

People keep bringing up the point of "does the gamestop hold events or games", and IDK if I'm out of touch or they dont know what a GameStop is... But i have been all over the country and never have I ever seen a GameStop that is any more than a retail store, that sells games and other products. From the tiny walk-in closet sized stores in the malls, to larger standalone stores that just have the same merchandise spread out to fill the void... None of have them have ever had anything other than items to buy and demo machines placed there by console manufacturers.

As @RyskyHawaii-PGO said, GameStop is the same as Starbucks, and CircleK and Verizon and Mcdonalds and a myriad of other locations... generic chains that have paid for sponsored stops in pokemon go, therefore (and for multiple other reasons) are not eligible on their own and should not be submitted for Wayfarer review.

If you can prove that this is a community hangout location that has a dedicated area to loiter in and do activities, as well as hosting events, then thats a different story, otherwise its ineligible.

Nah, Go and Ingress players need to realise their games are just a temporary skin over the real game of Wayfarer.

I know exactly what Gamestop is. It's pretty much the US equivalent of GAME.

Primarily they are indeed videogame retailers, but I know from personal experience with what was my local GAME store at the time that they were willing to host gaming events and tournaments outside of their regular opening hours. Our Streetpass group used to do events at GAME occasionally on certain evenings.

It's not impossible that certain branches of Gamestop would do similar things. I wouldn't expect it to be a widespread practice by any means, but it's certainly possible under the right conditions.
