Additional information: First picture is geotagged at marked location 1, second is at marked location 2.
This portal is a fraudulent submission by an account I will not name to not run afoul of the rules that was known to submit legitimate portals with wildly falsified locations, this is one such of these submissions. This wayspot does not exist, at least where it is currently located. It is not safely accessible from the trail, existing well off the trail on a sheer talus cliff that isn't remotely safe to approach off trail. The first picture is the closest location to this portal on trail, and you can see there is a sheer cliff face just after the corner of the switchback and somewhere up the cliff in the second. You can see from topographical information that it is extremely steep where the portal is located and well off trail.
Additionally, while the picture used is generic and doesn't show an identifying mark or name like most survey markers have, the NOAA government map of survey markers shows no survey marker where the portal is located.
This can be verified by going to https://geodesy.noaa.gov/NGSDataExplorer and typing the coordinates I've provided under "Go To Location" then "Dec Deg Location"
In summary:
1) known fraudulent submitter
2) not on trail, with no safe (and indeed, extremely hazardous pedestrian access)
3) not in known survey marker databases

Comments
Thanks for the appeal! We took another look at the Wayspot in question and decided that it does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.
@NianticLC please take another look, this wayspot is absolutely not here. It was submitted by an agent named Seattle who is notorious for fake wayspots.
in fact, just last month a portal submitted by this same player was moved from this same location to it's rightful location over *40 miles* away!
additionally, there is no indication of a geo marker at this location as shown by the USGS website.
finally, TheKingBoar has been there multiple times and even included photos showing the alleged location of the marker.
if all this isn't good enough, what is?
@NianticRN @NianticAaron
We have retired the Wayspot in question.
