UK - Historical survey markers carved in to buildings to measure height above sea level.

"Benchmarks have been around for a long time, much longer than our trig pillars. While the first systematic network of levelling lines and associated benchmarks was initiated in 1840, some benchmarks in our archive date back to 1831."

These have significant history in mapping the UK pre-GPS and other technologies.

Are these fine? There are over 500,000 of them in the UK.

As per the other Survey Marker discussion thread, I would say no unless there is something significant about the individual marker or if it's on an off-the-beaten-path as per Niantic's guidelines for markers.

Otherwise it just looks like a random marking with no features or qualties that give value to a passer-by or for it to be considered a point of interest (unless of course you can show why it is of historical significance). Especially considering that there are over 500,000 of them, they are far too common to be unique, which is again why it's important to state why an individual marker is notable for it to be accepted.

If that is the case why do we see so many Postboxes, Telephone Boxes, or even Post Offices being accepted? They are practically all templates and look the same all over the UK, the red letterbox hasn't really changed at all since 1901.

Playparks too, they are mostly fairly generic, absolutely nothing culturally important about them.

Thanks for the link to the thread, I guess in the spirit of the game it depends if they have a unique story to tell.
