I would have rejected it - I would have thumbs down on the Appropirate option. Then ticked Generic Business.
IT is one of the rejection criteria... hmmmmmm
I so so want the explanation box back. So you can articulate your reason....
I think I may slow down my reviewing.
Did you use the correct rejection criteria? Even it shouldn’t be accepted, it should not be rejected for location inappropriate or orientation etc.
I have been witness to a load of abuse since I started Wayfarer back in 2019 and I would have been welcoming a more stern attitude towards abuse, but this is getting ridiculous. It is not okay Niantic is passing out judgment to players without a clear distinction between actual abuse and false positives from Niantic's own failing system.
Punishing (in this case great!) reviewers, unjustified bans and warnings in my local area (for suddenly ineligible hiking and cycling trail markers) have sucked out all the enjoyment from wayfaring. I just have grasshopper stats compared to many others here, with only 5k reviews and 500 accepted wayspots, but I'm done with my free labour for Niantic.
I know no other company can abuse their voluntary workforce this much and can still keep them engaged. It's saddening that the company responsible for creating such a great concept keeps mishandling their product. At this rate, it will probably die out before they even admit Wayfarer is broken.
@cyndiepooh-ING , @NianticAaron, @SeaprincessHNB-PGO , @NianticTintino-ING IMO, "Philo" is a bot.
I wrote back to "Philo" asking for examples of my bad reviewing. This was the response received:
We have thoroughly reviewed your reviews and found that you have been incorrectly reviewing and selecting incorrect rejection reasons without properly reviewing the nominations/edits as per Wayspot criteria and guidelines. Please review the aforementioned Wayspot details and context shared in our previous message. As a result, we have notified you about it after our investigation. Please review the Wayspot Criteria before reviewing any further nominations."***
No "aforementioned Wayspot details and context" were ever shared in a previous message. To me, this looks like an machine generated response.
I wrote back again, repeating my request and finally did get a response from a human saying that I rejected "Planet Fitness" which was deemed an eligible submission. Planet Fitness is a chain of gyms. Franchise/chain locations are generally not eligible businesses.
I am of the opinion that given the new system there should be no emails being sent out as no detailed advice has been given.
The Ambassadors are raising this as a very important issue needing quick action.
Is this under the new workflow? Because this is an example where being required to do a full review regardless of which categories you downvoted could have saved you.
Any gym can be considered valid as it’s a good place to exercise. The new flow asks as a first question whether it is an appropriate location. Number 6 lists that generic businesses are not appropriate unless important to the local community.
This means there is a judgement call as to whether this business bypasses that point or not, or does offering exercise outweigh its generic nature. That is a question of opinion. So some will accept and some reject or perhaps low score.
The point here is not this specific nomination but that everyone is in a period of learning about how to apply the new system. So mistakes will be made, judgement will slowly be refined. During this time the last thing a wayfinder needs is the basic non -education email.
Nominators need to consider that they might need to refine how they present their case and also show some understanding to those reviewing.
i rejected for "other rejection criteria" - this was reviewed before the update
and please keep in mind that this was submitted as the logo for the business anyway, not the restaurant.
To add to the topic, I just got a non chain restaurant with billiard tables, event hall and garden rejected
Beliebtes Lokal in Tübingen mit Garten am Neckar, Kulturveranstaltungen wie Comedy Club , und diversen Barstollsports wie Shuffelboard, Billiard und Darts
Popular pub in Tübingen with a garden on the Neckar, cultural events such as the Comedy Club, and various barstool sports such as shuffleboard, billiards and darts
Supporting information had a few sources
Maybe we should all post our rejected appeals that were for restaurants. Or logos for restaurants. Or chain gyms.
I honestly think if your objective is to bring high quality wayspots to Niantic Wayfarer's Lightship database, dumb it all the way down to tolerated. Just look through this thread of what they've imported all throughout and the remnants of Turkey.
Anyone who extremely strongly argues about quality should get their head checked going forward. Dealing with Niantic is a lottery, you don't know if a random sports-themed restaurant or a trail marker deemed generic is going to one day result in your ban if you reject or accept them respectively.
It is not safe to review.
Oh, I rejected this one as well. Ignoring whether a chain gym with lackluster text, should have been approved, there is a LICENSE PLATE in the center of the main photo https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/rlbHcATqaCm4Ws768d9Q_2oHN63aRDyqLybjNy5CAohPv9jOgIj2Kf23j2yTsZoI0p7Rqiif0Pfz8kOtTnv4kiueAfa_knDlPTZ0KrEl=s0
I read this comment again and realized it might sound like I was criticizing the player base. Just want to clarify I am criticizing Niantic. By posting all of our rejected appeals we can show a pattern that these types of nominations are usually denied, even by Niantic, further showcasing how idiotic that e-mail was.
For anyone who doesn't want to read through 30 odd pages or browsing probably hundreds of thousands of dumped Wayspots.
Consider the absurdity of @cyndiepooh-ING correctly reviewing an ineligible submission then receiving a warning email.
Meanwhile in India
It's not a Dram Shop, which in itself would probably be ineligible, it's a Drum Shop.
Duplicates, both ineligible, placed on top of each other. Possibly the same place with different spellings.
Maybe you're right. Whats the point. You should just stop reviewing.
i also got this to review. there is a prominent license plate in the photo. this was a one click reject for me, too: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/rlbHcATqaCm4Ws768d9Q_2oHN63aRDyqLybjNy5CAohPv9jOgIj2Kf23j2yTsZoI0p7Rqiif0Pfz8kOtTnv4kiueAfa_knDlPTZ0KrEl=s0
You know, your personal hatred of me is starting to make you look like a real a$$.
i have stopped.
nah. it's not just him.
With all due respect tehstone and any other Ambassador if there is a reviewing ring to shut down that is up to Niantic to do and not through the medium of a forum, social media or whatever
Take it to Niantic if anyone feels they have something to report.
Please don't hijack this conversation. I want answers as to what I did wrong. I have begged for clarifications over and over for years. My questions are never included in AMA or other responses.
I did get an answer that Instagram tags are considered url links that must be rejected. A lot of people still ignore that one, but I don't. https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/comment/140342#Comment_140342
Just to make you really, really sure: Artwork painted by Mr Spraypaint. = acceptable Artwork painted by @MrSpraypaint" = not acceptable
And I got an answer to my question about individual disc golf holes, which is also ignored. Including by Niantic when I reported them. https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/comment/158395#Comment_158395
If any generic golf holes were nominated they would not meet our criteria for eligibility. Having said that, we have already reviewed the tickets raised and have addressed them accordingly. Sadly, we won't be able to discuss our internal policies.
I go by the criteria that a Wayspot must "be a great place of exploration, place for exercise, or place to be social." I use what I think is my "good judgment" on each review. If my judgement isn't good enough I need to know why.
I just realized I wrote about how I review in the present tense, but I am no longer reviewing. You cannot understand how heartbroken I am over this.
If making high volume "great" reviewers stop reviewing was the goal of the warning message, it was successful. Kudos, Niantic.
@cyndiepooh-ING I truly empathise with you.
Because of problems that occurred during the Spanish challenge (the discrepancy in the counting) I stopped reviewing in June. I have only recently returned in a small amount as I need to understand the good and bad of the new system. It has felt a very strange number of months.
I was also badly bitten by the same email in February.
This issue remained on the Ambo list, and it is once again a pressing issue not just because of your case - and we are all grateful to those that have provided their details so openly- but with the new review flow I am even more concerned that fellow wayfinders could be getting these confidence damaging messages whilst they are trying to find their way in a new system.
The goodwill of wayfinders is needed to make wayfarer work and this has unnecessarily damaged that, and it is difficult to repair.
Have some long walks, but do hang around the forums you have a lot you can contribute to help others.
And as far as taking my time and carefully reviewing, just go back and search my comments here that I did not think Niantic should be rewarding people for reviewing the most nominations during challenges, because encouraging that speed leads to sloppy reviewing. And now I am the one getting a warning. I am furious.
I have been an advocate for a long time of not nominating the generic buisness, but something at the buisness. Although I don't think that taking a cropped picture of the buisness logo was my thoughts on a good Wayspot myself. A few Logos have popped up near me recently as well, and I'm wondering now if my reject vote on the "A" in the Arby's logo, or the Crumble Cookies logo are now going to come back on me. Both of them have now appeared in games. Thankfully I didn't vote on the Lexus logo that appeared at the Lexus dealer. I know that the sales people will love to have a group of people all show up at their showroom door to do raids.
The new review flow and educational materials do ask us to reject generic buisness, you (Niantic) define them as generic, chain, or franchise that is not uniquely important to the community.
To me this rules out a lot of chain gyms like Planet Fitness, Golds, and Anytime Fitness. And also franchise resturants with multiple locations, that definitely would not make them unique to the area.
I think really the more disturbing thing is this seems to be a warning for one review. What makes this nomination so special that it requires a warning?
I would think warnings should go out after repeated incorrect behavior and with multiple examples of what they have misinterpreted in the criteria.
@NianticAaron I am still waiting for you to walk me through why my judgement that "Coaches' Logo" did not meet the criteria to be a Wayspot was flat-out wrong enough to receive a warning email threatening my Wayfarer and Pokemon Go accounts. I guess I could still play Ingress.
The submitted Title and Photo was for the LOGO for a chain restaurant. There was no story related as to why this logo met any kind of criteria. It is not artistic or historically important or likely to be a local landmark in my eyes, and they certainly did not try to convince me it was.
The description was about the restaurant: "American grill food with sports theme and games" which could apply to countless other places to eat. The supporting statement was: "Established in 2008, they play every sports college game here, very popular huge hang out spot for all families and friends" but there was no evidence given about this being popular. Again, this could be said about countless other restaurants. And says NOTHING about why the logo is important.
@NianticTintino-ING if Aaron can't explain, maybe you can tell me why this logo is a must accept. From your post here, I thought this was a clear reject: https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/comment/175596/#Comment_175596
And I would really appreciate if either one of you would tell me WHY this nomination was audited. Is all it takes for a reviewer in "Great" standing to get a threatening email for someone to complain that their nomination was not accepted to Help Chat?
Why is this company like this...
Niantic has killed the reviewer pool for my area. I assume this nomination was not upgraded, and that everyone who rejected it got this same email, and is also afraid to review. And it was rejected, so the majority of those of us who reviewed it did reject it. Nothing is moving into voting. Nothing is getting a decision without an upgrade. I am not using my upgrades because I am not reviewing to earn more. If Niantic wanted to create even more backlog, they succeeded.
I kept staring at this comment then decided I needed to edit to add more context. I was Niantic's biggest cheerleader when worries about bans started. I was repeating the phrase, "If you just review by criteria, you won't get banned. Those bans are only for major abuse." But now I get threatened with a suspension for using my best judgement to review by my understanding of criteria, based on years of following every guideline Niantic posts that I can find.
And before anyone says that this isn't a strike, just a warning, let me remind y'all that the conclusion of the email is
Note that any further violations can lead to the suspension of your Wayfarer and Pokémon GO accounts.
Best regards? Ha.
Please be assured the Ambos are following through on this, and try to give us and the Wayfarer Team a little time.
Given the area you live it looks like this is affecting your sleep - and you are clearly and understandably stressed by the situation. Contributing your experience on these forums is very welcome and if you have spare time on your hands please do help out. It may be a very positive outlet for you whilst you take a break from reviewing (which I think is sensible). But do try and find something else to do as well where you are totally in charge of what you are doing. And take lots of deep breaths.
I stand corrected. I just had something move into voting. Someone is still reviewing in this area.
