Would a College Café meet criteria for a Wayspot?

I would think it is eligible as a meetup and hangout spot as students often visit in their downtime to hang out with friends. It's somewhat unique in that it's also the home of the college's own radio station where students play music and host their own shows. Thanks

This would be difficult to answer and there really isn't an eligible vs ineligible in these situations. I suppose "situationally eligible" would be a good answer.
The generic college cafeteria or a Starbucks kiosk located on campus typically would not qualify, but a cafe known for something besides just being a place to eat may qualify. On my campus, we had a lounge that had an open pool table area, hosted kareoke and various music shows when schedule allowed, and was a general hangout/meetup place used to study, relax, and engage in extracurricular activities and club organizations. Those have a much higher chance of being eligible.
One of my favorite AMA answers for criteria with businesses is one on "generic business."
Q51: How unique does a business have to be to not be rejected as a “generic business”? I’ve been told that reject reasoning is specific to chain restaraunts/businesses, but I get a restaraunt rejected that is a hot-spot. How cultural/historic does a business have to be in order to be accepted?
A51: NIA OPS replied with, “It would depend on the combination of the Title/Description/Photo used. If the Restaurant is a significant location in the city, explaining that in the description might help the reviewers take the right call.”
The nomination should explain in good detail why the nomination meets criteria. It is not simply eligible or ineligible based on guidelines, but it certainly can be.

I just rejected one yesterday as frankly it was just a generic student cafe and all cafés are community meeting places. The radio station as community service angle sounds more promising than the café one...

I'm curious, was the rejection reasoning simply because "all cafés are community meeting places" so therefore it isn't eligible because not all cafés are eligible? Shelters at parts are community gathering locations and typically considered eligible per guides.
I do agree that most generic student cafeterias are ineligible, but I think it's more situational on cafés or lounges.
Without knowing any other details, it has just as much of a chance of getting approved as any other cafe. Which is to say the least none at all. Yes, it is easy to presume that cafes are places locals (ie college students) gather. But we are not to accept them without context or evidence that demonstrates that they meet the critiera.
I looked it up on the campus website - The Basement Cafe at https://www.petroc.ac.uk/students/places-to-eat - to see if it had anything special about it to set it apart from any other cafe, and couldn't find anything. All the supplementary info said was that another cafe on the campus was already a Wayspot but that Wayspot was for the building it was in, which was the college's unit for courses for people with special needs. The submitter needed to add a bit more - like the OP's radio station.
