Comments
No. I literally wrote it in the very first post here. It also affects Gyms that are moved within the same L17 cell.
@NianticCasey-ING Do you have some news for us? You said the team would try to get a fix with the next update, but we haven't heard anything from you since. People are posting all of their Gyms here, but you haven't replied to any of them.
So can you at least answer the following questions:
1) Will the unfairly demoted Gyms and unwantedly promoted Pokestops be restored to how they were before June 24th? We strongly hope so.
2) What is your current estimation on when the fix will be ready?
No dan noticias y al final perderemos los gimnasios y no lo restaurarán ?? No es normal esto .
It is not about believing. Im just trying to figure it out how it works in order to not be under the same situation next time.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Today I had another gym moved (from one cell to another which was already occupied) and it was still a gym. Random bug or new hidden rules?
Bienvenido al mundo de Niantic. Nunca te vas a enterar cómo funcionan las cosas realmente.
Hello @NianticCasey-ING and fellow Niantic Team. A member of my local community put in a location edit for the gym "Fireman's Park" in Chaska, Minnesota in order to attempt to move the gym to a location that better represents the real-world location of the object and help improve Niantic's Wayfarer Database. A few days ago, the edit was accepted and it resulted in the gym being demoted to a pokestop. This was a legitimate edit made in order to improve the location of the Waypoint.
The original location was in the parking lot of the park, and the location it was moved to is where the park sign in the Waypoint's photo is located. The waypoint was moved from (44.789179,-93.603519) to (44.789166,-93.603481). I'm posting here to request that Fireman's Park be converted back into a gym. My local Pokemon Go community is very upset about this happening, as this gym has been around since the beginning of Pokemon Go and my community desperately wants it to be rightfully turned back into a gym.
Niantic Casey mentioned that this should not be the result of a legitimate location edit. It's unfair and disheartening to have our community punished for a legitimate edit and would discourage future edits to make Waypoints more accurate due to fear of negative effects resulting from them. I wanted to make you aware of this situation and work towards correcting it. Below I attached a couple screenshots of the Waypoint in question.
Thank you, hoping for this to be resolved soon.
That’s cause it still had the most photos & photo likes.
Hello @NianticCasey-ING I have another gym that was demoted on Saturday, one much appreciated in our community because it is a monument honoring the victims of a terrible terrorist attack in our country a few years ago. We would very much appreciate being put back as a gym again.
A few months ago I reported an agent who abused location edits here to generate new gyms where there were already 3 in the same cell but you ignored me. Maybe this could have been avoided if you had done something earlier...
Gym name: En memoria del 11 de Marzo de 2004
Original coordinates: 40.283166, -3.800086
New coordinates: 40.283173, -3.800021
other gym that got moved and now is just an stop
-34.660131, -58.482297
https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=-34.660132,-58.482115&z=17&pll=-34.660132,-58.482115
this was a gym since day 1 in the game
this is truely a double edged sword. cause if they keep it so the moved gym stays a gym people can abuse it to move gyms where they dont have them. how ever if kept like it is they can move gym and it loses its status as gym ( potentaly glitching out pokemon in it) and another is chose as gym.
@NianticCasey-ING Sorry to bump this topic up, but can we please get an update from you, please?
Could you please restore our unfairly lost Gyms? Thank you.
Hi! Is there any update regarding this @NianticCasey-ING? A gym in my area has become a Pokéstop today due to a wrong location edit that was accepted. I've already reported the location edit as abuse, but even with that I don't know if it will ever recover its Gym status.
Gym name: Parque De La Palmera
Original coordinates: 40.314026, -3.85585
New coordinates: 40.314124,-3.855313
Thank you!
Was the gym changed into another cell that already had three or more gyms, or was moved in the same cell but already had more than three gyms? Did one of those two things happen?
Hi! No, none of those things: the gym was moved to another cell with two gyms, but with not enough Pokéstops to warrant a third one.
The original cell where the gym was located had three gyms, one of them being the one that I mentioned that got moved and turned into a stop.
It would be great to get an update from Niantic since this problem is just destroying gyms and making gameplay worse, this whole idea of demoting gyms is just not right @NianticCasey-ING solve this please
Missed the July goal. Is there any new updates to consider, @NianticCasey-ING? Similarly, have the bugs me smoothed out? I have an edit approved several weeks ago that has still not synced in PoGO.
Thanks!
And, what about the gyms we've already lost? How can we make them reappear again? We lose our job as reviewers, not all people abuse.
This gyms have been affected:
Iglesia De Jesucristo De Los Santos De Los Últimos Días:

So which is going to be the final intended behavior? Are the gyms affected by this feature going to be brought back? Or aren't?
Could you please provide an answer @NianticCasey-ING ?
Hi,
Yet another 2 gyms lost due to this bug:
Tango Azurduy: -34.552113,-58.468742
Carrusel Plaza: -34.56229,-58.458526
This is affecting the gameplay of our group. It's really sad to see gyms being lost.
Now that wayspots can be moved again, @NianticCasey-ING have you solved the problem that caused gyms to turn into pokéstops when moved?
Thank you.
@NianticCasey-ING Since now you can move again the stops, have you decided if you will revert this gyms that got lost? Or they are going to stick as they were? Previously you mentioned that "THIS IS NOT THE INTENDED FINAL BEHAVIOR" so we are wondering and we do not get a reply.
@NianticCasey-ING now that locations are fixed can we have a response about this issue? Is this fixed and, most important, Will we get our gyms back?
Hi folks,
Sharing an update on this issue, since the Edits maintenance has been completed. The Wayfarer team confirmed that they worked with the Pokémon GO team to resolve this issue.
The new behavior is now that Pokémon GO will maintain a Wayspot's Gym status unless the location edit would place it too close to other existing Gyms, in which case the moved Gym would be converted into a PokéStop.
Also, if someone had a Pokémon that was stuck in a converted Gym PokéStop, it should be released to them when the change happens.
Thanks for your patience!
Can you define what "too close to other existing gyms" means please?
Does this have to do with the number of gyms in each L14 S2 cell? 20m from existing gyms? 10m? Something else entirely?
Let me also say that THIS IS NOT THE INTENDED FINAL BEHAVIOR. There is additional work being done beyond this to further improve this so that closing one abuse door doesn't open another abuse window.
Do you see why we sometimes have a problem believing the things you say, @NianticCasey-ING?
Unfortunately, that's all I can say. There is an algorithm that examines the population of the updated location and makes a determination of whether the Gym stays as is or is updated to be a PokéStop.
@NianticCasey-ING I mean, thank you for the update, I appreciate it, I really do. But... you still haven't answered the question that everybody asked. Will the Gyms that we unfairly lost be restored? Is it so hard to say "yes" or "no"?
It's good that you're going to prevent Gyms to be moved too close to other Gyms. However, in our case (the very first post in this thread), the Gym that we lost was the only Gym/Pokestop in its L17 cell and the closest other Gym was literally 200 metres away... It would be a shame if we irreparably lost it because of abusers in other parts of the world and because of an "unintended behaviour" bug... You can restore it and our community would really appreciate it. Thank you.
