'trail markers" that are really just a but of generic do and don't symbols
i see people listing posts as trail markers claiming they are legit, but everything visible on the little post are just generic little sign like no dogs, no bikes etc, and given there is no street view it's hard to be able to see if there is further information making it a legit trail marker or not. thoughts?

This sound similar to some park entrance signs I have reviewed. The sign has all kinds of rules on it; it the park name was there, I have generally accepted it, though I was less than excited about it; if there was no park name or something special, I rejected it.

A "park rules" or "trail rules" sign is going to get a low rating for me, if they are just rules signs and do not display names. However, if the nomination is a sign which identifies the park/trail by name as its primary function but just happens to have rules attached, I treat it same as a sign with the name alone and would rate more favorably.

If you have some photo examples, can you upload them?
Trail markers can be great nominations, however there should be something helping identify it is a tail, typically the name of the trail. A unique symbol identifying the trail also gets accepted, sometimes.
Potentially Confusing Nominations
Trailheads, trail markers, mile/distance markers, etc. - Acceptable, if they have a trail name on them. Simple mile markers along a trail with nothing other than a number should be rejected.

Random rules are not legitimate. The only exception is if the name of the park is on it.
Personally I rate trail markers/park signs/Direction signs/bike signs the same way.
If the name of the trail/park is on it, I accept. If it's just some random rules, I reject
