Are gyms, like Gold's Gym or Catalyst Fitness, eligible for a Poke stop nomination? I thought they were, but my recent submission in Buffalo, NY was not accepted. The location pin may have been in the parking lot and not on the building, which may have been bad.

I assume generic business since gymnastics centers (even Olympic ones ) seem to get denied
golds gym is a generic chain gym so no.
But the specific niche gym where Simone Biles, the gold medal winner, trains can be eligible.

Can't agree with this reply enough. A chain fitness center would be extremely unlikely to be eligible unless it stood out as having trained regionally recognized athletes or were well known for their location specific programs or community involvement.
Are there any murals or statues there you can submit?

Chain gyms ate generic business, you could maybe argue for a local independent gym
