I'll be 5 starring this, but not sure if it's actually ok or not

Cane across this while reviewing, I'm not sure if it comes under any criteria, but it seems extremely nice thing to have al I'd be more than happy to 5 star it

Hey folks,
I've been thinking about this one a lot today and even chatted with a few folks on the Wayfarer side too. Basically, this is a complex one: it's definitely not in the same category as a little free library but also isn't quite a trail marker either.
I think this would only be eligible if it were also accompanied by some sort of educational signpost or some other marker to explain what it is and why it's associated with memory loss or why the senses can assist with memory development. Something to bring it into an educational category.

Speaking as someone that works in a setting where there are people afflicted with dementia, I'm in two minds about this.
On the one hand, it is something you don't see often and it does encourage physical activity, judging by what I can see of the description.
On the other hand, it's not really a trail marker, and to someone that could be rushing through reviews, it doesn't look like anything special.
The fact it says Memory Box #1 makes me wonder how unique this is too.
The Memory Walk as a trail sounds like a good Wayspot if there's an info board/map for it. But each item on the walk doesn't feel worth approving.
Yeah, I'm a tad suspicious over the "#1" bit. Definitely sounds like there might be potential dupes incoming.
Agreed about the Memory Walk as a trail sounding good too.
Blessing Boxes are a rejection.
October 2019 update:
While little free libraries are valid portal candidates, what about blessing boxes (miniature food and hygiene banks)? At this time no. Libraries are part of our criteria and are included as a nod to education and discovery. Blessing boxes would not fall into this category.
I'd be more inclined to give that a high rating if the photo included some sort of sign with text verifying what it was. I googled a few terms and came up with nothing like what's in the picture; to me, at a casual glance, it looks like one of those check-in stations that has trail maps or a visitor log.
This isn't a blessing box.
Blessing boxes are filled with essentials such as food, hygiene products, etc, and are labelled as such.
This is a memory box, which is allegedly filled with activities to aid people afflicted with dementia.
Two separate things all together
Same intent. Still would be visually considered a Blessing Box.
What is that even supposed to mean? It doesn't even look like any of the blessing boxes I've ever seen. Those are usually taller profile with a transparent door.
Memory boxes would be similar to a blessing box because appearance is similar. Guidance is clear on LFL's because they are an educational nod. Other similar things are not valid. That is how it is described and answered in the AMA question from Niantic.

When was it decided that similarity of appearance is reason to lump objects under guidance for different categories? Rhetorical question: can I argue that guidance applies to dog waste stations and grills too, because they are superficially visually similar?
They would be different criteria. Because they are different. Blessing boxes have a defined criteria. This is nothing more than a blessing box that is pulled out by others. It is not artistic. It is not visually unique. It is not historical. There is guidance in wayfarer and it says it is not acceptable for blessing boxes because they do not have an educational nod like Little Free Libraries. You disagree than ask @NianticCasey-ING . But I don't see how this will be voted yes by Niantic.
Dude. It's not a blessing box. Blessing boxes are taller and usually have transparent windows.
However, I would like to hear @NianticCasey-ING's thoughts on this one.
Blessing boxes and memory boxes are not the same and do not have same purpose. This is easily verified with a 2-minute web search. That being said, I find the memory box concept interesting, but I don't think it is a high quality nomination.
It looks as though there is a sticker affixed to the memory box, probably detailing its use. I think a photograph of that would help the submission. Perhaps each one on the trail has a different meaning. Hopefully person submitting them can get this across.
I would have accepted this myself. Maybe not 5*, but it is interesting enough to me that I would accept it. My own town has a dementia trail and I can see the value in it.
My guess is he said number 2 because apparently each box on the trail holds a different things to help the people suth dementia use their senses, its defo not a blessing box. I know it didnt look to interesting but the idea if it is so nice and to le it's got an intersting story, its defo a pint if interest, it's not common as I dint know of any in any of the parks near me, I'd say it's much more acceptable than like a play park is

It looks as though there is a sticker or sign affixed to the box, probably explaining it further. I feel photographing that would have helped the submission. If somebody showed be an object with that shape but with no context, I might think it's something it's not, such as something for birds to nest in. It has a round hole in it and it's made of wood after all.
I would have accepted it myself. Probably not 5* though. Maybe 3*. It could be that each memory box has a different meaning. Hopefully this would be explained by the person submitting it.
@AScarletSabre-PGO I didnt show the supporting info but it did mention that it's all different things in the box
It appears people have agreed with me, this one has passed and is in at least ingress. I know this because I'm now reviewing number 3 (missed out number 2 for some reason) and can see number 1 on the nearby waypoints map. I've put number 3 up on another thread with the supporting info on it now, waiting for admin allowance on it
An LFL is acceptable because it has an educational nod - it feeds the mind.
A Blessing Box feeds the body.
If I'm understanding them correctly, a Memory Box would be closer to an LFL in purpose, in that it feeds the mind (and other senses, according to the nomination description).
As such, I would accept this, though at a 3* unless the little label/sign on it had greater detail as to its purpose.
