Portal Incorrectly Removed
Title of Wayspot: Mawsmai Stone
Location: 25.244365, 91.723823
Additional Info: Portal was deleted inappropriately. These limestone caves have the distinction of being the only caves in Meghalaya that are lit enough to enable tourists to enjoy the natural formations in awe. The stalactites and stalagmites caves have innumerable forms, shapes and sizes inside leaving one to imagine as many life forms as possible. This magnificent natural wonder is the handiwork of years of natural abrasion and underground water.
Moreover, the portal was the only portal in a range of several kilometres and is extremely remote with limited network connection.
Although the original portal submission had some shortcomings, the edit feature can be used to update the photos and title.
Kindly consider reintroducing the portal.
This is not the photo of the removed portal.
Would suggest you re-nominate the POI in question in accordance with the criteria laid out by Niantic.
If we were to start reporting every portal with a bad photo, most of the old portals at such locations would be eliminated. There are other less radical ways to achieve the envisaged objective.
The photo was perfectly fine. :)
Importantly the image is not required but the the portal link will suffice a lot along with proofs that it actually is one of the major tourist attraction in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya.
Anyway, here are the supporting evidence for all of the above and it was unnecessary to remove a portal after so long, after using that portal for an OP before that nobody bat an eye on it.
Portal Name: Mawsmai Stone
Portal link: https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=25.244365,91.723823&z=5&pll=25.244365,91.723823
Supporting evidence that it was a legitimate portal being a tourist attraction.
I believe that satisfies everyone and Niantic will re-instate the portal again. Attaching the SS as well on it's last state. I would suggest the OP to edit the post with all these and hopefully it will satisfy everyone looking for anything on the same.
This information as well as that in the original appeal is half-facts meant to mislead.
How, what I have posted is misleading? I don't understand what actual facts you require? Can you elaborate?
Also how you think this isn't a legitimate portal or an appeal or am I missing something here?
I would also like to point out that the highlighted part in this image should be considered as abuse in this instance.
I believe, according to you, the only use of the edit feature is to create clusters by shifting portals.
The edit feature(s) should be used to improve the quality of POIs, and not perform 'alchemy' on them.
This should never be a portal at first place as Mawsmai Stones/Caves are a natural feature, not man made.
Original Picture for reference
The portal which was removed was titled Mawsmai Stone. This is the image of the portal. What it represents is clear.
It is NOT a sign board to a cave as alleged by the OP in his image. I request OP and his buddies who are clearly here to throw some likes and dislikes to not lie and mislead people to get an invalid portal back because it's convenient to them.
Then it's easy, they should send it again with the proper picture of the sign and name
If you would have spent 30 seconds reading the template of appeal you would have realised, the person submitting an appeal needs to submit a photo ‘supporting his claim’. Which I believe I have done sharing the photo of the board.
Another 30 seconds spent on reading the criteria would have educated you in wayfarer criteria set, which states PoIs, that are natural features with man made markers are eligible.
On an even more pertinent level, the portal in all probability predates wayfarer and most probably pre dates even OPR, when these criteria set didn’t exist.
If all such portals which have are natural features but the portal photo is outdated with regards to the current criteria were to be removed, most portals at such locations will have to be removed.
On the contrary, updating the photos will be a more practical, less radical alternative.
Did you bother reading the template for appeal?
Claimed photos are not of the removed POI but of a nearby item taken from http://drpkarya.blogspot.com/2014/06/mawsmai-cave-in-cherrapunjee-visit-by.html .
The removed POI never had any man made signs or other man made structures.
Niantic's criteria on such items is very clear regardless of it being pre-Wayfarer, pre-OPR, or anything else.
All such portals should be removed and the right ones re-nominated in line with Niantic's criteria.
The OP's constant use of the term 'less radical' and suggesting the edit features be used, is a gaslighting technique.
As stated previously the edit features are meant to improve existing POIs rather than convert them.
Any POI or potential POI is firstly defined by the photo representing it. After that the title and description are used to supplement it. The definition of the removed POI was very clear.
The POI was never the Mawsmai Caves. It was one of the many natural rock formations that may exist in the area and that change over time. This has been proved by both opponents and proponents of the argument.
The OP has admitted in the original post that the POI was indeed ineligible as 'some shortcomings'.
Appeal Denied - Thanks for the appeal, Agent. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Portal.
