The detailed language and clarifications surrounding trail infrastructure we had in the previous criteria has been removed and replaced with a broader, more general category of "A Great Place for Exercise ... Hiking Trails"
Does this mean that we can be less strict when it comes to reviewing trail infrastructure now?
For example, do trail markers without the trail name such as those with just an arrow and/or distance now qualify, and if so, under what context (do they need to be in a wilderness/park setting, or can they be through more urban areas?) If a trail is clearly human-made, can it now be submitted in its own right without any signage at all?
Another example is survey markers, which also do not seem to appear in the new criteria. Do mountain top markers still qualify as being under the category "A great place for exploration?" What about survey markers on wilderness trails? In parks? Smaller brass/metal disk style markers in more urban areas? These kind of features have obviously played a significant role in Geo-Caching for a long time and were trending towards becoming increasingly common nominations (at least in Australia.)
Regarding "low quality photo", are the reasons under "Rejection Criteria - Ineligible Photo" the only reasons for using the "low quality photo" option to reject a nomination? For example, can a nomination be rejected for "low quality photo" if the photo is not blurry and not taken from a car, but:
Does not place the object as the central feature of the photo (e.g. a playground that only occupies 1/4 of the photo)
Has bad lighting or contains too much shade or reflections, but the object is still identifiable
Or, simply "could have been improved"
Currently, many people reject such submissions for low quality photo. It would be good to clarify whether we can use that option on our discretion, or should we strictly adhere to the "ineligible photo" section.
Can we consider Malls, or small Shopping places under the category of Plazas? As mall, shopping malls are privatized and has lot of chains around the city. Can they all be considered as individual POI? All are gathering place where you can share a drink or meal, be entertained, or watch public life happen.
I don't know about your library, but mine runs crafting clubs, boardgame days, book clubs as well as author talks and a whole host of other community activities. Post offices facilitate communication with friends, even if it's not face-to-face.
-Location is a private residential property (even if historical), farmland, a K12 and under school (preschool, primary/elementary, secondary/high school), child care/daycare center, rehabilitation center, safety shelter
The former definition was "on the ground" now it is mentioned as "is a". Makes this a playground on the ground from a child daycare eliglible.
A Mural on the streetsite (directly on the wall of the child daycare house next to the pavement) of a child daycare which is publicity accessable without disturbing the kids. Would you rather see it as eliglible or ineglibile?
I have a question? Why let level 38 and 39 players nominate. It has more bad disadvantages than good advantages.
Advantages:
1. Way more nominations.
2. Way more voting.
Disadvantages
1. WAY WAY MORE FAKE SUBS!!
2. Most of our LEGIT nominations get rejected because most of these trainers are not very familiar with wayfarer and thus they don't know the guidelines.
I am not telling you all to take the rights away from them. But make things a bit strict, please. Make the wayfarer exam a bit more constructive and hard. It's way too easy.
You need to counter fake subs. We wanted you to look into activities such as people using apps like GalleryCam. But now even you are talking about future use of our gallery to post subs. We wanted you to stop fake subs, but now you are promoting it. Think about ways to counter it, please. In the short term, fake subs are beautiful. In the long run, when people will go to various places and in the future when the different Niantic Games will turn VR from AR. Many communities around the world will get a bad name because of a few trainers who posted a lot of fake subs. And now the number is even more due to level 38 and 39 players getting access to it.
Indeed, if Pokémon Go and Ingress received a push notification or News item in the game, pointing them to the guidelines, it would reach a wider audience.
Good day, I’d just like to know if Nurseries (a community place that sells all types of plants) can be eligible for a POI. I’ve had nurseries rejected because they call it a “generic business” however the nurseries where I am from have lots of community and historical background. There is a nursery called fern world that homes one of the most endangered species of plants in the world called cycads. The man does landscaping for people as a service, how much more relevant can it possibly need to be?
Thanks for doing this frequently. Could you please be more specific (inside the new criteria, like... update them) on what a unique store is and what's the difference from a Generic Store?? Because, right now, every shop is rejected instantly!
Another question of mine is, could you please optimize and check the way Wayfarer works as it is TOO slow after June/July. From In Queue to Voting and then to the desicion... It would be nice to see that be implemented in your new goals!
Last but not least, are you thinking of create a Wayfarer App for Mobiles instead of joining through the Browser every time? Also, are you considering of apply some features of Wayfarer+ as fas as cells and maps are concerned?
Previously approved Wayspots were not removed with only minor changes to the criteria.
However, if the criteria are renewed as in this case, is there a possibility that previously approved Wayspots will be removed according to the new guidelines?
It seemed perfectly clear in previous guidelines that individual basket hoops or single playground structures were not elegible nominations. The basketball court or the playground was, which is never mass produced, even if consisting of mass produced structures. Those structures were duplicates of the main feature (like any slide/swing/fortress of a single playground).
Perhaps it needs to be re-adressed, as it is already a very large problem in existing wayspots, what is considered a feature, and what is considered a duplicate part of that feature.
You've previously been very clear about how and when a memorial bench should be accepted, however there's never been any clarification on commemorative benches. For example, a commemorative bench usually has a historical plaque on it commemorating a significant event to the local community. According to the new guidance, historical plaques should be accepted, and if this plaque was in any other location then it would easily be eligible and accepted. Therfore can confirm whether commemorative benches like this example are acceptable or not, and if they are, on what grounds should they be accepted?
How we decide whether the Transit Stations/Restaurants/Coffee Shops are indeed Famous/Popular/Favorite? What are the valuation needed for such place to be considered as Famous, Popular, or even a Favorite?
Why does the Criteria state ambiguous and subjective word such as "Favorite", which potentially make diverse interpretation.
Does the "please carefully consider"40mradius still apply on Private Residential Property? As it's no longer stated in the New Rejection Criteria, unlike the older Rejection Criteria. Which I understand why it's no longer there; because the 40m radius were never 100% to be rejected (cmiiw). It's good to see Wayfarer Ops decided to cut off the ambiguous wording in the new criteria.
I think it's great that criteria now seems to be more simple and direct, less ambiguity will make the rules easier to understand for everyone (those who ignore the rules will still ignore them anyway). Maybe not about criteria, but, would it be possible to add streetview or supporting text to picture rating? I've come across some reviews of what appear to be a new mural painted over an old one, did a streetview search to see what the correct one was but could not find any of them as it doesn't show that particular area, having streetview access or supporting text like on wayspot's reviewing would make it easier to select the right pictures or at least more dinamic. Thanks for reading!
Please could you precise the point about drinking fountain / water fountain / bubbler. According to last AMA this kind of object do not follow the criteria except they are uniques ; unique in the sens of one different from all the other fountains, not the only in a park or garden.
Most of them are mass produced and the name "fountain" allows poor wayspots.
Wayfarer 3.1 has updated guidelines. One of the thing mentioned in the release notes is the following: "We will be proactively reviewing previously rejected nominations that may have met the updated criteria."
How exactly is this gonna work? There are likely millions of rejected submissions, so what will be the procedure here?
In the UK, in addition to walking trails and bike trails, we also have bridle paths which are designed for walkers and horses together. Are these acceptable, and if so, do they still require a named trail sign? (very few of them do).
Right now, it is very difficult to estimate how long it takes until a nomination goes through. While upgraded nominations might get decided in a few days, others remain in queue for many months. Most of my own ~25 submissions are in queue or in voting since 7 months, even high quality submissions among them. This is frustrating and I cannot upgrade all of them. Is there anything planned to improve at least the information on why they are stuck?
While AMAs do help a lot on acceptance criteria, there is no definitive guide. I would wish a site where specific questions about acceptance criteria can be definitively answered and referenced. A lot of questions are currently decided based on previous AMAs and community discussions, but newcomers might have no idea if they’re not in a community. Many old AMAs say to some questions "depends". I would want every possible question that could get repeated answered on some new site. Is that possible to create?
How will it get addressed that existing waystops often have photos of nearby waystops attached. There’s currently no way to report bad/wrong photos for legit waystops.

So should we ignore ALL clarifications made in the previous AMAs, or just the ones that conflict with the new criteria page?

1. Must be a permanent physical, tangible, and identifiable place or object, or object that placemarks an area
Would it be prudent to mention a man-made object or placeholder here?
2. A generic business, chain, or franchise that is not locally unique.
If a chain has a very unique store in a particular locality, would that be something to consider?
3. Descriptions are not required, but we encourage them as they help tell the story of that Wayspot!
Why do you guys keep saying this when the input field in both apps makes it mandatory?
How are libraries and post offices places to socialise?
There seems to be some oversight here in the way this section has been phrased.

What is being done to ensure all reviewers see this new criteria?
No push notifications, nothing unless you've gone looking for it.

Would it be possible to make it so an account to not be deleted if a ineligible Ingress account is deleted while an Eligible Pokemon Go account is active?? (https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/5115/ingress-lvl2-deleted-wayfarer-statistics-gone#latest) This needs attention as it gives the impressiion that Wayfarer is bad programmed and we lose our badge that is our ONLY reward :)

The addition of cycle trails is creating a lot of discussion on the difference between cycle routes and cycle trails. Could Niantic clarify.
Thanks.

As per new criteria website :
A great place to be social with others

So still considered ineligible.
