What should I do when someone uses fake pictures ?

Hello everyone,

I am a new reviewer here. During a review, I just spotted someone that uses fake pictures to create Wayspots. For instance, this proposal is located in France whereas the painting is located in Buenos aires.

Unfortunately several fake stops (you can find all the pictures in the first results by searching marty mcfly graffiti on google...) were already validated...

I suspect other stops to be fake but I didn’t have time to take pictures as the review expired.

Is there a way to stop such an abusive behaviour ?

Thank you for your help

Would you please provide the location of that existing Wayspots? I'll make sure @NianticGiffard @NianticEG would take a look at this one.

If you are reviewing the waystop and find they used a fake image, mark it 1* and report as 'Abuse'

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, @Soulsilver1996-PGO, @patsufredo-PGO! To have this checked, could you help me with the Title and the location of the POI's along with the screenshot (If possible)? If you haven't done it yet, please report all these wayspots via the abuse form too.

Thank you for your help @NianticEG

The ones that I am sure to be fraud are :

Marty Mac fly portrait, location (48.3704060, 2.8280860), the painting is actually based in Buenos Aires and the picture is available on the Internet

Marty Mac fly scarabée, location ((48.3701220, 2.8268150), the painting is from Hanksy and I think it’s in New york city

Marty mac fly street art, location (48.3698610, 2.8273060), this one is actually a painting that you can buy online + the fact that there is no background to the painting is highly suspicious

Marty mac fly art mural, location (48.3724200, 2.8272560), this one is also a picture that you can buy online and that appears in the first research of a google search + you can’t find the painting in google street view and the spot is located near a private house

I reported these Wayspots with the abuse form

Then, for the ones I suspect to be fake but I’m not sure :

Dr Emmett Brown graffiti, (48.3684190, 2.8280060), this one is highly similar to the others + the background does not seem to match the google street view (red bricks for the walls in the picture while all the walls are grey in the google street view for example) but I couldn’t find the picture on google

Boite à Livres de Beauregard, (48.3719130, 2.8278600), the background doesn’t seems to match the google street view, (there isn’t a white wall with an hedge in the street view, and the ground seems much darker on google street view) + the object is not visible

Boite à lire, (48.3705670, 2.8272270), the background does not match the google street view, there is no building with bricks of these colors (the building where the spot is located doesn’t have bricks and the nearby houses with bricks only have greys or white bricks, no yellow/brown) + the object is not visible

Hôtel à insecte, (48.3700870, 2.8277610), the background does not seems to match with google street views/google maps. According to google maps, the spot should be in grass which is not the case in the picture . Furthermore, the brown building in the background can’t be find nearby. However, the insect hotel has the name of the supermarket nearby written on it so I am not really sure for this one.

Most of these spots are not directly visible with google street view, or are located in areas where the google street view is not available, and there are all located in the same area.

  • Thanks for the detailed info, @Soulsilver1996-PGO! I've escalated the report to our abuse team for review. We'll follow-up as we have more information to share. Cheers!
