Is this abuse?

I’m curious how many people in the NE US have seen this nomination to move this POI? And then how many have seen it come up many, MANY times?

I ask because at a certain point it is clear that whomever is trying to move it isn’t getting what they want and keeps pushing it to move.

Like...a lot. It’s also pretty clear that they want it to be by the street, but the location is what I assume is the original.

My question is at what point will this person be stopped from posting this? Is it until they get sick of it? Or is constantly trying to change a location and failing considered abuse of some kind?

I’m mostly just curious if anyone else is seeing this regularly? I’m also pretty impressed that this person is so persistent.

There could be perfectly reasonable reasons.

The lack of information as to what is happening to your submissions can make you wonder if something has gone wrong and resubmit.

If you don’t review you have no idea how it will presented to reviewers and seeing it like. This could be quite a surprise. Once you know what happens you would probably submit once and leave it.

That in some areas it takes a very long time for agreement to be reach compounds this and also makes it more likely that someone else will also submit a move.

Repeatedly in these forums when someone gets a reject for something the advice is try again. As criteria also change it can also seem that constantly trying is a valid strategy.

    Abusive location

Locations that are intentionally and strategically placed to provide advantage to a single player or collective group. Or location edits that attempt to move the Wayspot away from the object with which it's associated (for example, moving the Wayspot to a different city/country or moving it to a more convenient location).

    (New 3.1 criteria)

    Yes, this is abuse

  • We have reviewed the report and have taken actions on the Wayspots and Wayfinders in accordance with our policies. Thank you!

It would be good to hear from the Mods on occasion as to exactly what actions they have taken in these instances. At the moment the guidelines essentially say "Don't do this stuff or we might ban or soft ban a player". If we could actually have some examples of actual Mods "modding" that we could actually show people ("see, they really do mean it and do do it") then perhaps some of these problems might occur less often.

If ever you want to find out from Niantic directly, you have two choices:

    1. Do something abusive (I do not recommend going this route lol); or
    2. Asking this question "in general" and not about ANY specific incident or player

But given other generalities from their games, they tend to implement a "three strikes" policy:

    1. A warning
    2. A timeout
    3. A ban
