How much do you comment?

As a fairly new reviewer, I take perhaps too much time justifying why I recommend not accepting a nomination.
I’m curious what you all think. Do you comment, or mainly provide ratings and select options provided? Thanks.
Comments
Comments and the "what is it?" are optional. I most likely ignore them.
These comments would be very good if the following evaluators could read the history of the comments of previous evaluators.
I used to write something until I realised that the submitter won't ever see the comment so now I don't write anything
Very well observed
I usually try to write a comment with suggestions of what to submit in a picture or what better way to describe thinggs especially if supporting/description isnt enough to pass such nomination.
was it confirmed that nominaters never see our comments somewhere?
It was once by a nia mod I believe. I have no clue where but its possible for the nia team to see those comments and maybe use it as extra information.
Thats kinda unfortunate. Those comments if they went to the nominator would actually probably help people nominate better things or create better nominations in the process
definately. Anorher point, that Nia should put on the "comming soon" list
Niantic urgently needs to include the requestor receiving the comment messages that we put on the reviews
Sorry, but this is a terrible idea. There would be far too many instances of reviewers just insulting the submitter, and Niantic doesn't need yet another thing on their plate to moderate.
Yes, there is probably too much risk for nasty comments, particularly in cases where the submitter is known in an area and is targeted by other players which can be the case. Also there are kids who play these games, and it wouldn't do for them or their parents to get nasty swearing messages just because they submitted something that wasn't very good.
If the comments were guarenteed to be helpful and constructive then yes it would be a brilliant idea. But that will not happen.
It's been mentioned on this forum before, plus as a submitter I've never had feedback including these comments. I'm sure if they were ever shared, it would be picked up here right away.
Back when I had to comment when I selected "Doesn't meet Critiera" I would always put down what the nomination was (ex "Generic sign, bench, memorial of a non-notable person, graffiti, etc.). Now, I only comment when I feel that my application of the ratings may be unclear. These comments are, after alll, for the benefit of Nianatic who may be conducting an audit and not for the benefit of the nominator who will never see them.
Thanks, everyone! Your ideas and insights really help me. I didn’t know the comments don’t make their way back to the nominator. Time to lean up the process! I appreciate you all.
Depends how much coal and garbage I’ve had to put up with. Sometimes my comments become more cursing than helpful so I then stop.
For clear cut things I leave blank. I comment as if the nominator were receiving them in case it ever did go back to them. I know I'm wasting my time but I think it helps me as a reviewer. I also reference if I've seen a particular nomination before or if I think there is something fake as Niantic supposedly reference the comments if they are taking action against a nominator spamming nominations. I'm never rude or abusive - although there may be the occasional exclamation mark.
Well if niantic is already reading them it wouldnt take much to actually monitor them and basically discard anything that is not helpful or constructive.
I guarantee they are not reading them, except possibly in the rare case of auditing individual reviews.
Even then if they want reviewers and submitters to get a better experience the way they keep saying. This is a perfect way to do it. If people can put in constructive messages it will help everyone involved in the process
Sometimes I comment but not much anymore. Submitters and other reviewers will never see your comments, and I think it's extremely rare for Niantic to look at them either. I will occasionally use the comment box to vent my frustrations because I know I"m shouting into the void rather than communicating to other humans. "I'm sorry, but no matter how badly you want a couch the cactus in your front yard will never qualify. Maybe you could try using it as a bench?" "You have feet. They work, right? You could have taken ten steps toward this fountain and taken a photo that didn't look like a giant expanse of lawn with a fuzzy twig sticking up out of it." "Dude, I don't care how stoned you were. The Jack in the Box drive-thru does not qualify, and taking the picture at a 37 degree angle doesn't make it look artsy."
As @flatmatt-PGO pointed out, sharing comments with submitters would be a nightmare. We would have constant complaints here and elsewhere about abusive comments from reviewers. Plus, then I'd have to vent to my cats rather than using the textbox. (-:
If the evaluators are commenting with bad words or unusable things, we have a problem here, this evaluator is not prepared for his function.
I used to comment on every review before I learned that it does nothing.
Frankly, I don't understand why that feature is even there if it doesn't serve any purpose in practice.
If I had faith that the feature could be competently moderated for abuse, then I'd have loved for the comments to be sent to the submitters. But alas...
And even then they can literally have a computer system moderate the comments. If they see a bad word the computer either blocks the word like they do in this forum or it rejects the whole comment. So no man hours needed
It's tricky. People who really want to insult can do so quite easily without using any of the "classic" slurs and insults.
Thank you for your comment! As a new reviewer, I’m learning and take great ideas like yours to heart. Thanks!
Occasionally, I'll add a "@Niantic, please manually review for..." and add additional comments, such as if it's something I feel I'll be voting against the community but feel very passionate about. I doubt it actually gets read, but it lets me clear my conscience a little, I suppose.
For the growing trend of just plain bad nominations, I've sometimes just added "Nah" or "Nope" when denying. If I'm flagging fake nominations as abuse I'll typically state "Waste of reviewer time."
Thanks for this great idea! I’ll borrow it. I agree, it will help me feel I’m trying to make a difference to the process. I appreciate your thoughts.
