Are panoramas acceptable as photos?

I got a submission today whose main photo was a panorama. It was 10x wide as it was tall.
Are these kind of photos acceptable, or is the huge aspect ratio a deal breaker?

Hey y'all,
Good discussion here, there are a lot of pieces of correct info provided by many people. Here is some official guidance:
- Primary photo: The main nomination photo should be a clear, high-quality photo that allows players to easily identify the Wayspot. Clarity filters are ok but using an artistic one that would so distort the photo that the Wayspot is indistinguishable or difficult to see, including panoramic photos, as the main image should be a one-star vote for the 'Should this be a Wayspot?' criteria.
- Supporting photos: So long as the photo is not so distorted that you're unable to determine what it is, panoramic photos could be included here as they might help to better show the surrounding area.
Hope that helps!

I wouldn't have thought them to be acceptable for the main photo.
As a supporting photo, I don't see an issue but as the main photo, something like that wouldn't load well into the games, so could be seen as low quality photo.
Agree with @NicoSolheim-ING, I understand why they took the photo like this, to show the whole mural, but as a review and in games it will look awful :(
It a shame they won't be able to see the feedback people write. People who select the wrong reason for rejecting this submission will likely confuse the person who submitted it. They may feel discouraged and end up thinking it's not eligible at all not bother resubmitting it with a higher quality photograph.
I got similiar issue just now. Should a photo with fish-eye effect is also acceptable?
(I'm asking in general, as there's a license plate shown in the photo and therefore should be rejected.)
In Ingress (I can't speak to the other games) photos with uneven proportions are zoomed in and the edges cropped, so you would only see a blurry, zoomed in view of the middle of the mural.
Is that an effect or is it someone holding the camera against a fence? I imagine many would reject either way, but I can see the POI clearly so not sure it should be rejected for that.
@patsufredo-PGO I would not reject that nomination because of poor photo quality, but like you stated, the readable license plate is an issue.
For a phone camera to take a Panorama it has to distort the image to fit a linear photo plane. Coupled with the fact none of the games support a Panoramic view it would then crop an already distorted photo and like distort it further. I would 1* as low quality photo.
That being said a Panorama in the support photo could help gleam additional details even with the distortion and could be very useful in certain situations.
Orientation
Use for nominations where the photo is tilted, sideways, or upside down.
Don't confuse the person nominating and give a bad rejection reason.
Orientation wouldn't be the problem at all it would still be the right way up... Orientation is when a photo is flipped on its side or upside down or VERY crooked. A Panoramic photo is just a longer photo side to side not an incorrect orientation. Yes it should be rejected for low quality photo not orientation.
Thank you for taking the time for a better worded response than mine. I gave up putting more effort in than necessary.
This isnt an agree or disagree situation. Orientation is if a photo is tilted, upside down, or on its side. It has nothing to do with the width of a photo. This is not a debatable thing. No guidance from Niantic needed on this. It would be rejected for Low Quality photo. No disagreement on that it should be rejected but not as orientation.
You complain about people selecting bad reject reasons this would be one of them if selected orientation.
Orientation has nothing to do with the photo proportions, it is purely the angle of the photo.
Why is this an ineligible Wayspot nomination?
Orientation
Use for nominations where the photo is tilted, sideways, or upside down.
An upside down photo, tilted photo, and sideways photo would still show the correct focus despite being rejected for Orientation. Orientation of a photo is SOLELY the picture not being correctly upright. Nothing to do with focus, depth, clarity.
Reject 1*: Orientation: Use for nominations where the photo is tilted, sideways, or upside down.
Reject 1*: Low Quality Photo: Use for nominations where the photo is blurry, pitch black or is taken from a car.
This shouldn't even be a debate. Plus a Panoramic photo could should the focus of the POI very easily. A long Mural all in a panoramic shot would shot the focus on the mural but would be distorted and not cropped properly for the games.
Orientation again is ONLY if a photo is flipped upside down, on its side, or tilted. Not poor cropping, yes a Panoramic would crop very poorly and may not be directly on the center focus but that has nothing to do with Orientation.
I have plenty of experience with Photography, equipment and programs. I used to have my own Photography business. So I think I have some experience with the subject....
If I knew this was going to devolve into another thread for Gabriel0332/Dice976jr to argue with people endlessly, I would not have made it.
@NianticCasey-ING @NianticKN-ING can I request this thread be closed since I made it?
That was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. You really owe @AgentB0ss-ING an apology.
How does this help the thread?
Seeing if Panoramic photos are eligible for the main photo. They shouldn't be used for the main photo. Clarifies for Pokemon Go players.
Wow, that was a big delay in publishing, I submitted that a couple hours ago.
Thank you @GearGlider-ING
@NianticCasey-ING Please review and close this thread.
I don't think your rude comment made any progress towards that goal of yours.
