Criteria clarification about plazas

Despite the new criteria, neither me nor my local wayfarer community have a clear idea about how the criteria for plazas works. If you go to criteria in wayfarer you see the photo of a signless plaza. So, do plazas still need to have an identifying plaque with it's name for them to be accepted or is itn't needed anymore? If the plaque was indeed composary, does it have to be a special plaque or could the general street name plaque of the area be sufficient for the plaza being accepted?

Whatever we tell you here, in the end it's what your local community of reviewers accepts what counts.
Plazas are elegible, although some reviewers may fault some plazas as generic and may demand some notability evidence to pass acceptance. Also, while I despise that a nice plaza has to be represented by the picture of it's sign, some anchor object is a requirement and signs are the most suitable ones. Even a street sign type would probably be better than nothing.
As @Lechu1730-PGO said, there is an Acceptance Criteria : "Must be a permanent physical, tangible, and identifiable place or object, or object that placemarks an area".
Usually, a sign is required to help anchor the submission, unless the plaza itself have some unique decor, urban furniture, distinctive elements/colors that makes its "trademark".

"Eligible" doesn't mean it will be accepted.
Try to explain as clearly as you can in the Supporting statement that the candidate is eligible as a place to be social with others and explore the community.
Uggg. I feel this in Spain. I have no idea how to review plazas. Most nominator aren't nominating need plazas. Their descriptions are also pooh. Most make me think that they chose a place where do they do botellón.
My first question is what does a "Plaza" is for you... there are times where different things can be named the same way but differently on other countries/regions.
In mexico, a plaza could be:
1) A park
2) A shopping mall
3) An outdoor shopping center
4) An esplanade
Same in Argentina, by the way.
@Zoombie3000-PGO y @Lechu1730-PGO Y España también. Ver https://dle.rae.es/plaza?m=form
Obviously, a paved square. A shopping center is by no means a plaza.
Actually, a shopping center is fundamentally a Plaza. Have you wondered how the word Marketplace came to be? It's the place where the market is located. And Place, in Spanish, is Plaza.
Plazas were dedicated open spaces in cities reserved for Markets but also to muster the troops of the city (Plaza de Armas). A shopping center is the modern equivalent of the first case and that's why many of them use the word Plaza in their name.
Well, you can get as nitpicky as you want, but you know what I mean and going in depth about language is not the objective of the post.
Literally the definition of plaza includes shopping centres
This was confirmed in a comment by a Niantic official (I don't recall who, just that it wasn't @NianticCasey-ING). Malls (aka "plazas") can indeed be eligible; maybe somebody else can find and link to that comment for us.
Now do keep in mind that a "plaza" (whether outdoor or indoor) must still adhere to the eligibility criteria. Niantic has it listed under both "great place for exercise" as "parks and plazas", and as "great place to be social with others" as "parks and plazas".
Common sense not necessarily being so common, there are some implications that those categories entail. For example, an outdoor plaza may (or may not) be a place where your town hosts events and parades (aka "the town square"), but a nondescript outdoor stretch of pavement/sidewalk would be less so. An indoor plaza may (or may not) for example host a daily chess club in the mall's food court, but an open space that happens to be "somewhere" inside the mall, where you can lease the space for a kiosk? also less so.
So as with everything else, there's "good" spots where a plaza could obviously be a wayspot under the current rules, and "bad" spots where it doesn't really make much sense. Or in other words, mediocre locations are still going to have trouble getting voted through Wayfarer. Signage will still be your best bet for either. I mean, as a plaza is literally by the dictionary "an open space", and how does one validate some random patch of pavement from one which is used as a social/exercise place?
