Nominations on the common area of a gated apartment.

We had a nomination that got promptly rejected just after just 5 votes for "Private Property". The PoI can be seen from outside the gate and clearly outside the units. I think the guidelines allow for these type of nominations.
Is there an appeals process for these?

Couple things here. There is no way to know how many votes it took for it to be rejected.
Stuff inside a gated apartment community is eligible in the common space, however its often rejected as private residential property.
My suggestion would be to go get a better photo, add a more detailed description, and in the submission statement reference the Wayfarer help and detail that Apartment Complexes are not considered Private Residential Property. Only single family homes would be considered PRP.
"After 5 votes?" I'm unsure how you'd know that number, but anyways...
No, there's no appeals. Getting "private residential property" rejections for apartment complexes aren't uncommon, but are wrong. Try to take better photos and explain in the substantiation that it's in a community area of an apartment complex.
Outdoor and Indoor Playgrounds
I had recorded the streetmap views before the voting started, so it was at most 5 votes.
I actually included a link to the guideline about communal areas and stated in the supporting info that nominations in these areas are not a basis for rejection.
Just keep subbing it. It should get in eventually. I've had the same problem in the past and got mine in after a few goes.
Unfortunately there are a group that still dont keep updated on criteria.
the problem is, upgrades need to be used(1+ year waiting if none) and there's plenty of reviewers right now with 0 idea / doesn't want to learn the guidelines.
5 votes decision. That says a lot about the general knowledge of the reviewers. Did niantic change the voting process recently?
I understand the pain, Ive had upgraded stuff denied 5+ times, its very frustrating. However, if the location is important to you I suggest keep trying.
Also Street View Count is not an accurate representation as if they just hit 1* on the review and never interacted with the map it might not count or, if Wayfarer is not pulling your Street view in as the closest thing.
Ah gotcha, interesting.
Same for my area. A playground should pass easily, but for more "subjective" nominations, I try and let them stay in voting for a few weeks before upgrading so that the local voters can hopefully carry enough influence. I understand not having appeals, but I really wish there were, at times.
Try again. I wouldn't elaborate on the nomination that it's gated off, and try and avoid the gate in the picture.

This is great advise, for this and any future nominations. Avoid any pictures or angles that may make a location less desirable by reviewers.
The gates needs to be seen or else they'll just rule mismatched location next time.
Could you post a photo?
Any official-looking link that clearly says common areas outside the apartment units are allowed?
The one I provided was from an Ingress discussion.
Does the street view not support location enough? Is there anything else nearby you can frame to support the location?

none for this street.
There is no appeals process for ejected submissions other than to resubmit. But the reason it is happening is due to a huge misunderstanding among reviewers from Pokemon Go that think that "private residential property" means any kind of residential property, including apartment buildings and condos whereas Niantic has defined it as only single-family residences. The only way to resolve this is through community education, but there will still be a lot of people who will remain "out of the loop".
