I can no longer choose which wayspot will become a gym on Pokémon Go

As the title suggested, I can no longer select which wayspot will become a gym.
In the past, the criterion for a pokestop to become a gym was either to be the oldest pokestop or to be the most popular pokestop. But recently, that standard has not been applied.
The biggest problem this can cause is that new gyms may become less and less accessible to a wider audience.
Without thinking too hard, I can cite small examples that occurred in the past and that our community tried to avoid.
The "Monumento da Divina Misericórdia" wayspot, which is located at coordinates <-19.519409, -42.61982>, became a gym, when there were even better candidates in cell S14. The monument is a 9-meter-high image to honor the apparition of the Divine Mercy, inaugurated in 2013, by the San Sebastian Parish, in the highest part of the neighborhood. It's a place that has a historical, cultural and religious appreciation.
However, only a small group of people is interested in climbing to the top of the hill, either hiking or driving a motorcycle. At the top of the hill, there's no vegetation that can protect players from prolonged exposure to the sun.
A great candidate for gym could have been the wayspot "Quadra Poliesportiva Paulo Paulino Ribeiro", at coordinates <-19.521423, -42.619498>. Because, it's in a more accessible place, in a public square, where there is a greater circulation of people (and, consequently, potential players). Or, any of the wayspots that are around the linear park complex.
Another gym that has the same problem is the wayspot "Igreja Assembléia de Deus", at coordinates <-19.523557, -42.615248>. It's up a hill and few or no players are willing to go there.
Another example, the wayspot "Igreja Evangélica Pentecostal Atalaias de Cristo", at coordinates <-19.510164, -42.604139>. It's located in a subnormal agglomerate, at the top of a hill, which can only be accessed by stairs.
In addition to these cases, there are other details.
Cases like the "Estação Ferroviária Mário Carvalho" and "Caixa D'água da Estação Ferroviária Mário Carvalho" wayspots, in the coordinates <-19.526154, -42.643648> and <-19.526527, -42.643875>, respectively. These gyms are on a private property (railway station), which is open to the public only from 12 PM to 16 PM, due to the time of departure and arrival of passengers.
These are some of the examples, for which I believe in the importance of the participation of the players in the vote of the choice of a gym. Because it is democratic.
If there are Pokemon Go trainers trying to circumvent the system, there are several ways to control the situation. In a presidential election, for example, only people of legal age can vote. The same could be applied to the developer's games, where only people of "legal level" could vote. After all, only high level players can additional photos be sent to a wayspot.
Comments
You were never suppose to be able to choose which Pokestop would become a gym to begin with.
Can this thread get a working as intended tag?
While that might be true, the ability to do so has only made my local community better. There is a great difference between passing and spinning a stop and gathering to do a raid. Here, the gyms has been placed at locales more suitable for such gatherings. Not that it would be impossible or dangerous to raid at any of the stops, but we have tried to place the gyms at the best possible spots, to the benefit of the community.
@TheFarix-PGO all of a sudden, that "choice" disappeared. The only thing I did was report.
And, I agree with @Mormegil71-ING. I believe in democracy. Because, on the contrary, gyms are born in places as detached as the ones I mentioned that, either few people are crazy to visit or they are monopolized, as is the case of the railway station. There are trainers who defend the gym and stay there for months, because they are local employees and are all on the same team. There is no turnover.
Worse than that, it is a gym located in a neighboring neighborhood. His "owner" does not allow other players to defend it. During the day, he places his six blue team accounts and, during the night, his only red team account.
Like @TheFarix-PGO already correctly said, you were never supposed to choose what would be the gym.
Secondly, nice abused spot ;D
As the third point, your point here is wrong:
In the past, the criterion for a pokestop to become a gym was either to be the oldest pokestop or to be the most popular pokestop.
The system was was different. Believe me :P
As the last point, I want to tell you that it is correct, that Niantic changes the gym creatin algorythm. The new one isnt completely explored yet.
This is an issue with Pokémon go, not wayfarer.
Wow, better hope Niantic doesn't actually look at this report or else you'll lose all your stops there.
Hey there,
A few notes about this situation. Firstly, this is working as intended. It has never been an intention to be able to manipulate the in-app map to ensure a certain Wayspot becomes a Gym (or other in-app equivalent). Any attempt to do so is actually considered to be Wayfarer abuse and could result in your Wayfarer account termination.
If you suspect that a player is engaged in malicious or behavior that otherwise violates the Niantic Player Guidelines, you should report it as abuse in-app.
Finally, as this is related to Pokémon GO and not Wayfarer directly, I'll be closing this thread and removing it.
