Proposal for extra 1* refusal
So, in Belgium it appears we are getting flooded with trail marker nominations.
A good portion of them (mostly the typical hexagonal route marker signs with named routes) are proper quality and eligible (as long as you don't get 17 of the same route in 500 meters...).
However, we also get a lot of rectangular signs, with node numbers. They mention the name of a node network and/or the operator for the node network. In the past half hour, I've had to decline like 10 of them.
So, 'clever me' had what felt like a brilliant idea: copy/paste the explanation why I 1* them, to avoid typing the same thing over an over.
Or so I thought. Using the same comment a few times, appears to have triggered a cooldown because there's a pattern detected in my nominations. Slight facepalm moment.
Therefor I'd like to request an option to flag as 'not a named trail'. I'd estimate that over half of my 1* reviews fit in this category, and I can't imagine being the only one with them.

don't give the same rating several times in a row. and wait at least 20 second between reviews.
that way, you will avoid a cooldown (there are plugin that help you)
about the trail markers, why those nods / "make your own footpath" are not eligible?
how those trail markers dont enter in the exercise / exploration criteria. how?! care to explain.
also, typing on the box doesnt matter. the submitters won't see it. nobody will see it. not even niantic.
These nodes are not part of a trail, they are part of a network. They are closer to a traffic sign than they are to a trail marker. Small towns are now polluted with the same "POI", you can walk 200 metres and have the exact same sign pop up multiple time as a portal/stop. Considering these nodes as worthy POI is being intellectually dishonest.
oh. so having a trail marker appear every 200 meters is bad? ok got it
/s
Don't base your rating on what you think will avoid cooldowns.
@DerWelfe2205-PGO yeah... tell that everytime i full 5* or 1* several reviews in a row. without waiting 20 seconds each time.
i see the star rating as an "yes/maybe/no" rating. never truly used 2* or 4*. i only used 2-4* to make sure That i dont give the same exact rating because algorithms..... and i dont want cooldowns.
always green/great here
That's not what I said.
You will find the exact same POI multiple times over a distance of 200 meters. Not once, but up to six or seven times. This is not a "point of interest", it's excessive abuse of a system, covered under the tiny veil of "it promotes exercise".
sure they are kind boring.. but they fit the eligibility criteria. clearly, with no doubts.
this is abuse? lol a good wayspot is something that make users discover their community... (people use the "abuse" word a lot around here, no wonder i didnt react after receiving a rejection email saying that my sub got flagged for abuse)
this seems the typical case of "niantic guidelines arent enough to have the highest quality POI in the database!!!! so i will make up guidelines and add more restrictions !!!!!"
Quoting the Wayfarer eligibility criteria:
"A note on eligibility: if a Wayspot nomination meets one of the below criteria, that's great! But remember that eligibility alone isn't sufficient to turn a nomination into an accepted Wayspot."
If you were to continue reading, you would come across multiple reasons why somebody would not consider these nodes a valuable POI. Calling it "boring" is actually confirming that these nodes are not "keeping with the spirit of Wayfarer's mission to create the most interesting, family-friendly, and accurate representation of the real-world", the final argument Niantic themselves consider a reason for rejection.
I couldn't agree more :-)
People tend to forget that it's the "Trail" that promotes exercise, not the markers. The trail is eligible. NIA sees the markers as a something valid to pin the trail to. So in theory a second trailmarker for the same trail is a duplicate, as they both represent the same trail.
On top of that, if you follow these touristic routes you usually come accross enough interesting POI's that make great wayspots
@Mald3r-ING noticeboards re also super boring since most of the times is just a simple wood board with some papers in it
but they are also an easy 5*,after niantic step in. until then.. nobody would accept them.
need confirmation from niantic themselves for footpath nods?
or people will make everything fit as long as they get more.
it's up to the reviewers to find the nuances between submissions. they refreshed the guidelines because most people didn't know about the ama's or previous answers on the forum.
Niantic casey said when they launched the new guidelines, that they were less restrictive and will depend more on the community to value a certain type of submission. So a lot of grey area will exist.
furthermore... nodes are NOT predefined trails. A nice decent named trail Yes, just another streetsign, or even worse an arrow pointing to another streetsign... Those node don't encourage people going out to explore...
as a result these kinds of things happen. 3signs at 1 crossroad... great value to the game.
With all these new additions to the game i hope they nerf spawn and stop output again... maybe then some of the submitters will realize that you don't need to fill every cell to be able to play.
Speaking from my LOCAL situation:
So I approve if it's a named trail OR visual overview of a node network, if the region isn't swamped with too many of the markers for that particular route, with a more forgiving judgement in forested areas with little other POI's.
Again, if you consider any POI to be "super boring", you might reconsider voting "an easy 5*".
I don't need anything, thank you.
I'd call those road signs rather than trail markers, they are no different to a road sign other than them being designed for bikes to follow rather than cars.
i agree, that's why i'm saying these nodes are very low quality submissions and should not be considered as trail markers.
