Additional information: I have recently had a wayspot nomination rejected due to questionable reasons. I was eager to reach level 40 so I could start submitting nominations as my local area is a fairly new development and therefore there are many potential wayspots which could be added. I have submitted several to date and all have been rejected, albeit I will admit the first couple where due to errors on my part, yet the last three have been questionable with reasons being:

  • Image of poor quality - the image was high resolution so I'm assuming this meant the content in the image was poor, which when compared to other wayspots in my area seemed unfair.
  • Object is on private land - the image was of a Royal Mail public post box which was positioned alongside a public footpath so I believe this rejection was unnecessary.
  • [The one shown above] Photo of the nomination appears to be of a live animal instead of a valid object - my image is clearly of a couple of picnic benches not an animal. I feel like this rejection is just as result of someone being silly.

I love playing Pokemon Go and was excited to help the game grow by adding new stops and hopefully gyms, it was one of the reasons I made such a push for level 40. However I now cannot help but feel like submitting nominations is pointless.

Recommending these is a timely process and although in the beginning I made some mistakes, with every submission I believe I have improved on the quality of my nomination. And with my latest nomination I believe the following to be true:

  • It meets all three criteria for box for eligibility 'A great place for exploration', 'A great place for exercise' and 'A great place to be social with others'
  • It is a permanently positioned (man made) object.
  • It is in a safe and publicly accessible area for pedestrians.
  • It contains accurate information in the title, description, and photo
  • It does not fall under any of the criteria for rejection.

With all of this in mind I cannot see what I have done wrong and would like this either re-reviewed or some advice as to how I should avoid such questionable rejections in the future.

Many thanks

You cant appeal rejected PokeStop submissions. You need to resubmit.

Thanks LukeAllSatrs-PGO, I had seen the email mention changes were not possible but I was hoping that through an appeal process something might be able to be done, never mind.

How would you suggest I go about preventing future nominations from being rejected for similar reasons, as I'm sure you will agree my last nomination was not of a live animal. As these submissions do take some time to complete it is frustrating to have them rejected for petty/unjust reasons. Is it just a case of the luck of the draw, as to who has reviewed your submission?

Make a new thread in "Nomination Improvement" part of forum where you posts screenshots with your full nomination (with both photos, all descriptions, location and screenshot of rejection mail) - you can post all of your nominations in one thread if you want, just separate them from each other in post, so we can see each nomination as one and not mixed together :)

We can tell you what reasons had reviewers while rejecting it and how can you improve it so it will be accepted next time. Or if it's ineligible, we will also tell you why. It's the best thing to do before you nominate them again.

For example, for some nominations (even the best one) you might get rejection when your photo has watermark (from phone camera, like "Shot on XYZ Phone"). It's also true that some rejection reasons might be wrong (they might be a misclick while rejecting), but they still wanted to reject it, so it's better to get some feedback on your nominations before nominating them again.

Please post your full nominations in "Nomination Improvement" and we'll try to help you :)

I think its being rejected because its just not a high-quality nomination. They are just generic picnic benches. In the review criteria it would score low on the visual uniqueness and cultural significance. There is no pavilion or gazebo, no memorial plaque, just nothing special about them at all.

In the wayfarer criteria guide, it states the following:

A favorite gathering place for friends or strangers alike, where you can share a drink or meal, be entertained, or watch public life happen. Or something that draws us together to share an experience in a locally and culturally relevant way.

    Examples of Wayspot categories

    • Pavilions
    • Post Offices
    • Gaming/Comic stores
    • Libraries (including free little libraries on public spaces)
    • Parks and plazas
    • Fountains and water features
    • Famous transit stations
    • Popular restaurants
    • Favorite coffee shops

I don't think people are denying it because they are being petty. The nomination does meet the "where you can share a drink or meal" statement, but falls short on the others, at least in my opinion. To me, it hits the "The object is mass-produced, generic, or not visually unique or interesting." statement on the rejection criteria.

That being said, I would say keep trying, you may get some favorable reviews in the future. My statements are just to point out what I think other reviewers may be seeing when they review this nomination, that it just seems generic. Its not a 1* wayspot in my opinion, just far from a 5*, if that makes sense.

Many thanks for the feedback Smashingt0n-ING.

Personally when submitting I was thinking of the bigger picture taking into account the picnic area as a whole, with the open green space for playing/exercising/socialising (many people are usually seen gathering with disposable BBQs in the area), and having the fishing pond and the brook with it's nature walks within close proximity it felt like a good submission. Although when taking what you have mentioned into context about my nomination being just generic picnic benches I would have to agree that the benches alone are not a 5* wayspot, and if this is how the reviewers have also seen it I can understand why it would be rejected on the grounds of being a low-quality nomination.

I think what confused me on this one was that the rejection reason given was that the image was of a live animal, however as stated by Maxyme99-PPGO said this could have simply been a misclick whilst rejecting.

After having several of my nominations rejected but noticing other new spots turning up around the local area for things which I would consider to be far less interesting, I started to wonder if I was doing something wrong

I appreciate all the advice given and will take this on board when making future submissions.

I can say with experience I have gotten all sorts of odd reasons in the emails for my submissions being rejected that flat out don't apply, so it may have been a misclick. One may never know. I too have seen several wayspots appear that I would argue don't meet the criteria as interesting as well, so you never know. Each submission can yield different results. Good luck in your future nominations!

  • Invalid Appeal - Thanks for the appeal, Trainer. We're not currently reviewing Pokéstop/Gym candidates. Please resubmit the nomination by improving its title/description if you feel that it was a valid nomination.
