PokemonGo app crashes when submitting a Pokestop photo.... STILL

I have the galaxy S20 FE and it crashes every time I submit a photo for a pokestop. Sometimes clearing the cache will work, sometimes it won't. Today I struggled but after SEVEN tries was able to submit one stop. I tried to submit another one but could not, and no amount of cache clearing and un-installing of the app worked. Also tried restarting my phone. I tried everything. People say to change the camera resolution - I've looked everywhere and have found no option to change the resolution. I tried changing the ratio to the other ratios but that did not work either. Some people say to download a different camera app, but the app uses my default camera not a different camera. I can't change it. All of the other threads I've read have provided no solution to this "bug", at least not for me.
What the heck is happening?

Have you tried to change the resolution on the settings of your camera app like if you were taking any picture (not while taking picture with PoGo app)?
Here are the steps for your phone : https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00086762/
This has been a problem for more than a year. Just opening the camera while playing pokemon apparently requires a huge amount of energy from the phone.
When I bought my primary phone I said 'I want one that can play pokemon, play music and share internet at the same time without crashing when I make pokestops.' and he said that no phone would be able to do that perfectly yet, because just taking pictures while playing pokemon is hard.
A big amount of GB on the phone should help a lot.
From my experience the older the phone is, the worse processor and the worse it will work. But it's not an old phone and the processor should be fine.
Try shutting down everything else on the phone it has to do at the same time and turn it back on, when you're done.
And never try submitting pokestops from a 'secondary phone'. No matter how great a phone I've been using to make pokestops - if it doesn't have a sim-card that gets internet directly it never works.
Hi there,
This is an ongoing issue with the submission flow in Pokémon GO. As @Kroutpick-PGO said, it's likely due to the file size of your photo because of a default high resolution. If you can, reducing the resolution via your camera app's settings may help.
I'll also flag that this issue is ongoing with the Wayfarer team so that we can build it into the roadmap. Thanks for understanding.
Wait, I thought you already had?
Seriously this has been brought up since day 1 of PoGO access to nominations.
Yes I've tried that too.
Gotcha. Well, I have a Galaxy S20, it's a pretty new phone and has a large capacity. I have 5G internet and unlimited data. Definitly not an older phone by any means.
I don't have a secondary phone so submitting from another one never occurred to me. Seems like too much effort as well.
That link shows its possible to change the resolution on videos, but not photos. :( i tried anyways, and there is no way to change it for videos either. The menu as shown on the manual does not exist on mine. It looks different.
thanks for your help though.
That has happend alot in the last year. We tell them that there is an error, something is wrong, and well, then nothing more happens and 9 months later we say "UUUUHM about that Error?!" and they say " Uh well we put it on the roadmap."
As a workaround solution to the most likely RAM related crashing try the "Forgery Camera" app. It's on the Google play store. The app let's you pull photos from your phone's existing gallery. Make sure you take your photos beforehand. PoGo may still crash, but it works pretty consistently if you restart your phone first. There are other equivalent apps to try if that one fails for some reason.
It's worth noting this workaround doesn't work on Android 11, due to a security patch by Google. The patch stops apps from requesting access to alternative camera apps unless the app whitelists a specific alternative camera app in its coding.
Same issue here - made a lot of effort to level up to L38 in order to be able to submit nominations, and even started rating, to find out that it's completely impossible for me. The lowest my camera allows me to bring the resolution/pic size is 5Mb, which STILL crashes the Go app, regardless of what I have running at the same time. Since that I have pretty much stopped playing the game, have not spent a penny at the shop and feel vaguely cheated. Was hoping that my next phone will deal with that, but if Galaxy S20 FE an't, there isn't much chance for low-to-mid-range models I typically get. Sad end to what was a very cool 6 months playing with a goal at the end (to grow a local network of stops) that got thwarted.
Going to try the app that PhazonDude-PGO suggested as my Android is still v 10.
Edit: no more on PlayStore alas.
I can relate. That sucks. I also had the goal of expanding the playfield in my very smalltown and was denied for a year and a half.
I have a 2017 moto G5 plus running android 8. I looked as well and couldn't find the app I use anymore:(
The app isn't wholly unique though. Any app that let's you access your photos directly without opening the camera should work. It might be annoying, but you might find success trying random camera apps till one sticks. If you search "fake camera app" you'll get some hits. Disclaimer, I haven't vetted these, but "FakeCamera" by pulimento and "Pict2Cam" by Adrián Garcia both appear to do what you need. There may be others if you're willing to experiment with the search terms and try somewhat sketcky apps.
Niantic really needs to allow gallery access during nominations. You can already do it when you add a photo to an existing wayspot.
Just to point out that the maintenance did not fix this issue for me. I'm using a OnePlus 6 (Android 10, 6GB RAM) and even after restarting my device and clearing my cache, I'm unable to submit wayspots using my phone's default camera app (thankfully as I'm on Android 10 I can use an alternative app, but I shouldn't be forced into doing this). I've also seen a few reports on Reddit and Facebook that other people are still experiencing this crash since wayspot submissions were re-enabled in Pokémon Go. I have filed a bug report in Pokémon Go, but I'm worried this will go unnoticed as the issue has been incorrectly marked as resolved on the Pokémon Go Known Issues page. Any chance you can let the team know that the attempted fix hasn't worked @NianticTintino @NianticGiffard? Or any chance we can finally get the ability to choose images from our gallery like Ingress agents have had for a long time now?
I believe the issue happens when I accidently happen to tap on the camera button more than once in quick succession. I thought "great, issue has been fixed now". But no. After a few tries I was able to nominate what I wanted to nominate.
Just take the photo outside of the app and then select the existing photo option when submitting.
I agree this should've been fixed ages ago, but the existing photo option provides an adequate work around for the time being.
Literally, I have had this for 2 years and now and it's still ongoing. 3 Out of the 4 times the game crashes.
