Awareness about the brand new criteria

I appreciate niantic's efforts in creating the new simplified and fantastic criteria and giving it a designated section but I am facing many old reviewers are still unaware of that even after having a knowledge upgrade link on the showcase i am finding such problems hence i feel we need more efforts to make everyone aware of that so that future challenges would get completed in more efficient manner and would also help us in the long run.

Reviewers need to answer a small eg 5 questions quiz after x amount of reviewes.

Lots of reviewers are not up-to-date.

always asking for "history" and "needs proof that a famous person went there".

excuse me, but read the criteria page and there is nothign asking for it.

    social, exercise or exploration. period.

    history/cultural stuff are bonus points.

The problem is not the knowledge about the new criteria. The new criteria only have small changes compared to the old ones. There are only a few things, that changed drastically: military area, graveyards and natural features. The most other things changed not or only a bit, or the new rules are more general and vague worded.

Rule knowledge in general is the biggest problem. Hiking trail markers for example ..... a pain in the beeeeep since ever .....

Thanks niantic for making a nomination improvement section for helping for nominations and upgrading people's knowledge could also work out little bit for awareness regarding the criteria.

I wonder if it would be a benefit that each time there is a nomination cirteria update that a pop up should show before you can continue reviewing; and at the end you got ot hit OK that you have read the updates, perhaps add a link to the forum to discuss the new changes. Of course many might just hit OK and review on eithout reading, but I would think those who has a genuine interest would actually read through it...

Of ocurse it doesn't need to be a pop up, but something that makes you read the update before you continue reviewing.

I asked that over a year ago when the first updates began occurring. It was met with a bland "Reviewer education is the Wayfarer team's top priority" but no action was ever made.

I think there was a banner on the home screen when the 3.1 refresh occurred, but it was easily ignored.

Yeah, there's a huge issue with reviewer education. It's very easy to forget or ignore guidelines if you've been reviewing for a long time.

It would be nice if Niantic put together a new video for 3.1 criteria update instead of the old one from 2019. And then you have to watch it to start reviewing again.

Throwback to this post in December.

We’re now pushing updates to the training experience and quiz with updated videos and quiz questions that align with the revised criteria.

Maybe I'm ineligible to view these videos, but I sure couldn't find any.

    Also throwback to this one.

NEW: Releasing some fun videos to shed light into how Niantics review Wayspots

I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

What a kick in the shin reaction, when they put good effort in making the updates you'd think they would like people to actually read them 🙃

when niantic gave new instructions, that basicly was a little here and there and a little relaxing there.

I was totally lost when that happened. I didnt know what was left and right, and why left wasnt right.

What do they want? Who wrote this? Maybe i am getting too old for it? Or the person who wrote it is from a different planet?

The "old" system should have been closed down for new submissions, so that people can review the tons amassed Backlog that surely will fit 2x around the earths center.

After working off those old things, Niantic could have brought its relaunch and EDUCATE people properly and tell them what changed and why, and how to SUBMIT and REVIEW.

Everything else that happened here was the final nail into the coffin. Wayfarer is completely broken.

I was putting in my supporting info for a bit to check out the new criteria, things have been going thru (such as hotspots) that were not before. It would be nice to expect niantic to direct reviewers to the changes but when in doubt you can always do it yourself.

I think a major part of this problem is that when the criteria were refreshed the reviewer interface didn’t change with it. People who are unaware that they need to (or are unwilling to) change how they vote won’t change their behavior if you present them with the same interface. Aligning the voting interface with the criteria will force a change.

For example, the first question on the voting interface is still “Should this be a wayspot?”, please respond with 1 to 5 stars. The reviewer shouldn’t have the option to answer the question like that directly when the new Acceptance Criteria is must meet the following :

“Must meet at least one of eligibility criteria”

    “Must be a permanent physical”

“Must be safe and publicly accessible”

    “Must contain accurate information”

While also not meeting any of the rejection criteria.

Questions like “Historical or cultural significance” are now antiquated and the reviewer should be asked things like “Is this a great place for exercise?”, yes, no, maybe. Bonus points if they move the “What is it?” question in front of the Eligibility Criteria questions and (in some cases) have it answer the Eligibility Criteria for you.

Likewise, If they ditched the star system and had the reviewer answer the remaining Acceptance criteria and Rejection Criteria questions directly with a non-ambiguous scale I think you get more efficient and consistent responses from voting.

Niantic is very lacking in that, not too long ago, every update to the criteria is found deeply and forum section where 99% of the reviewers doesn’t even aware of.

I encounter loads of players in the level to nominate who doesn’t even know what nominations are and how to to do it.

Very well said @Ribcage-ING I agree to you that would be fantastic we need voting system aligned to the new criteria would upgrade almost everyone.

honestly would be nice for them to do updates where they give you a pop up before you start nominating. Even if it was like

“new criteria updates effective April 30, 2021 include...”

  • Shilfiell-INGShilfiell-ING Posts: 1,559 Ambassador

I'd love a knowledgebase where I could look up specific objects to see if criteria has changed, or at least what the current status is. I've seen lots of nominations of late for generic manufactured plain old benches with a memorial plaque "In honor of Grandma who enjoyed walking here" or "My dog Spot" and the like, but try as I might I can't find documentation that these would be eligible objects. ANYTHING outside could be classified as a Great Place to Explore and a Great Place to Be Social, could it not? If I hang out on a particular street corner with my friends every day, does that make the intersection an eligible object? If I walk down to the bus stop and chat with my fellow travelers while waiting, is the bench in the bus stop a social hub worthy of inclusion? IF I have a friend visiting the area for the first time, am I going to take him to see the bench where someone purchased a $20 plaque marking it "In honor of Bob who enjoyed sitting here"? It's confusing as a reviewer: please know that I am trying to review as accurately as possible, keeping to the criteria, adding valid contributions of value to the database. We need more to work with as far as guidelines.

the bus stop and memorial bench in those cases would both be 1*. please dont go spreading misinformation like that

  • Vedansh2451-PGOVedansh2451-PGO Posts: 54 ✭✭

@orpheus80-ING kindly update yourself before misguiding others, niantic have developed a system with hardwork for people in this criteria to follow the system with all the details and everything explained well.

  • AkshyKumr-PGOAkshyKumr-PGO Posts: 7 ✭✭

Bro u r wrong, please update your information as soon as possible, niantic updated to its eligible criteria.

  • TheFarix-PGOTheFarix-PGO Posts: 5,063 ✭✭✭✭✭

the memorial plaque of the bench would be eligible because it is telling unique story about this place or its history.

No, they don't. Most plaques are just a person's name and the dates they lived, and sometimes included an epitath, but they tell no stories.

Also for Bus stop the bus stop as a whole would be eligible instead of bench Unless specified seating place of Bus stop due to being a place of gathering for friends or strangers and also people share experiences about the localities and sometimes community related things as well.

I already responded to this bit of misinformation elsewhere, but I'll restate it here. Just because you can socialize with someone somewhere doesn't make that random spot a great place the socialize. That particular criteria is for locations where it is meant for people to gather in order to socialize. A bus stop, random bench, or random street corner don't fall into that category.

And yes we need to use mind application with criteria as we can try out many more possible things which is brilliant work by niantic.

Don't resort to logical tricks in order to claim something is eligible when it clearly isn't. All that does is result in more confusion and frustration as reviewers correctly reject nominations that don't meet criteria, but the submitter has convinced themselves are eligible because they stretched to criteria to such illogical lengths in order to make something eligible.

  • Vedansh2451-PGOVedansh2451-PGO Posts: 54 ✭✭

Yes i agree they haven't written in the examples but it is upto our thinking and how our city and localities work. And I agree to you that they aren't random spots for socialising but those places aren't randomly spreaded without a designated area name and are considered of great relevance in our country more specifically.

I answered your doubts here still you don't want to understand maybe that's your frustrations which I can understand but please don't disregard niantic and positive community we have for a positive change for more details you should read and understand the things they have written here https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/criteria#eligibility

  • WheelTrekker-INGWheelTrekker-ING Posts: 3,387 ✭✭✭✭✭

The new criteria doesn't mean that everything is eligible. It must meet at least one of the criteria, and if you try to nominate "anything" claiming that it does meet criteria when it doesn't, then you're the one that will be frustrated with Wayfarer.
