Please translate the address

Hi Niantic,

We do not use English addresses. It would be nice if you could have addresses display in the local language.

Thank you.

  • Thanks for your feedback @phi2458-PGO, these addresses are actually provided by Google Maps. It isn't currently in the roadmap discussion for 2021 for addresses to be translated based on your browser language settings.

That being said, I have flagged this feedback internally for consideration but it is unlikely that this will happen this year.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Hi @NianticCasey-ING,

Thanks for your time. I would like to provide some additional information about this issue. I hope it clears things up.

When you send a mail to Taiwan, it would be better if you provide a Chinese address. Otherwise, the mail may get lost because many road names and district names are similar or even the same if you translate them into English. For example, “Fengjia” in the showcase could be 鳳甲 or 逢甲. They are two different area names in Taiwan, but their English translations are the same. The English addresses in Taiwan are a bit confusing, even for English speakers. As a result, we seldom use English addresses.

As shown in the following picture, it is a postcard sent from the Czech Republic. Only the country name is written in English, and the remaining address is written in Chinese. It is much clearer for the local mail carriers.

By the way, I thought the browser language settings do not matter. I can switch the language on the setting page of Wayfarer without changing the browser language settings.

Anyway, since the address is not the required information during reviewing, I think it is fine if addresses are not translated. Currently, most of the reviewers in Taiwan just ignore them. But I would still like to say that it would be nice if we can have Chinese addresses.

Please let me know if there is any problem. Thank you for your time.
