Food Banks And Animal Shelters

My Question is are food banks and animal shelters acceptable? Yes they are a charity so if they help people they should be added right? Well i have submitted a food bank several times and its been denied for the most part as generic business, and I exclusively say it is not generic business and it is a food bank. Could it be clarified in the Potentially confusing nominations or some addition to state as such?

I would still suggest stressing the significance and cite specific examples. Maybe include a reference to a news story in the supporting statement.

i can’t think what criteria those would meet.
food banks are a definite 1* and I would think an animal shelter would be as well
The "Niantic Wayfarer Clarifications: October 2019" give some related guidance.
Well in the wayfarer clarifications in october it says: "Are charity headquarters valid candidates? If they have cultural significance or have done something significant for the community, sure. Just make sure the Wayspot description mentions the significance to help other reviewers take the call." Food banks and such are charities but others may not see it as such but they are, they help or aid people who are in need which is what charities are. Which is why it should be clarified better
"Just make sure the Wayspot description mentions the significance". So, perhaps you could mention how the food bank has done something significant for the community in the description. 😁
Citing specific examples might help your case. Heck maybe even mention what the charity is doing now to help the community during the Covid-19 crisis?
I Have and they still deny, Despite niantic wanting people to read supporting info and descriptions, for the most part i would think most don't read it or most of it. If it were clarified better then they may accept it.
Food banks are not charity headquarters though. The charity headquarters is a singular place, but they may run a dozen food banks often in different cities. Don't over-generalize.
Well in my case, a food bank is the headquarter, I live in a small sub-rural area and we have a ton of home-less, They have feed home-less hundreds of times and help people around who are home-less, they are most likely the only source of food they have. And as far as i know they are self run.
@Perringaiden-ING Interesting take. It seems to me the focus in the response was more related to the cultural significance or the significance to the community then if it was a primary or a secondary site.
@MinusFive-ING Would you like every single Goodwill, Salvation Army, and St Vincent De Paul store to be a portal? Because that's how you get ants.
@Perringaiden-ING I will defer the point. 🤣 Sounds like @n1n is working with a HQ site anyhow.
Well those are different, Some rural or sub rural small town food bank is small and sometimes self run like mine is,
I would still suggest stressing the significance and cite specific examples. Maybe include a reference to a news story in the supporting statement.
@MinusFive-ING The UK Postbox debacle confirmed to me that rulings should err on the side of caution because giving someone an centimeter will mean they go 47 kilometers with it.
@Perringaiden-ING I have no comment on the UK Postboxes. 😶
I don't think they meet criteria, and given that food banks are used by vulnerable people I don't feel they're an appropriate place for a Wayspot. Imagine it becoming a gym and having a group of raiders outside? It could stop people who may already be feeling a range of emotions about needing a foodbank from entering.
The would fall under the exact same category as "blessing boxes" (i.e. mini-food banks) which Niantic specifically stated were not eligible in the October AMA and added to the October 2019 clarifications.
I disagree about them not being eligible. Like the OP, the food bank and soup kitchen I’ve tried once is the only one of it’s kind. It’s not a Salvation Army type deal. They have free meal 365 days a year (typically 100 people a day show up at dinner) and a food pantry 5 days a week for food items you can take home. It’s a non profit. I do NOT think these are at all comparable to blessing boxes. They have volunteers staffing them every day, it’s a building, and has operated for 30+ years in this case.
there was ONE point by @Senmana-ING made that I do think should be taken into consideration, that is having players congregating there and making people feel uncomfortable about approaching. I do think my example is culturally relevant and significant to the community-they have fed needy people on a daily basis for decades, there’s actually a large group of people gathered there at 4pm when they open for dinner, so if players do gather there during that time, they’d probably just blend in.
Something that @TheFarix-ING said earlier I think is worth showing.
There was a criteria clarification from the October 2019 Ingress AMA
While little free libraries are valid portal candidates, what about blessing boxes (miniature food and hygiene banks)?
At this time no. Libraries are part of our criteria and are included as a nod to education and discovery. Blessing boxes would not fall into this category.
And in the same AMA there was:
Are charity headquarters valid candidates?
If they have cultural significance or have done something significant for the community, sure. Just make sure the Wayspot description mentions the significance to help other reviewers take the call.
So it seems that for a charity to be an eligible wayspot, it would need to have something significant outside of just being a social gathering spot for the needy.
Often times local food banks are run by churches. I’ve even known some food banks to host church services. One might say they are, “A nod to the spiritual”.
The irony in this post. A lot of people love the UK Post Boxes. Yet local charities are a no and a autorejection by players as generic business. I suggest people easy up on charities and let them go through because locally it is very little being added to the game in reality. UK Post Boxes were approved at crazy amounts. Last stat I saw for UK was the following.
More Post boxes are approved than other valid things in the UK. I think reviewers need to see a chart similar to this on their locally nearby to show what the community is approving locally so it helps reviewers and submitters.
Way more post boxes than charities are approved in the UK.
@Gabriel0322-PGO Wow! Thanks for sharing that data.
I'm not seeing the connection between Charities and Post Boxes here @Gabriel, care to elaborate?
@GearGlider-PGO Another great point! I was just impressed by shiny the chart. 🤣
Sure @GearGlider-PGO A charity has more value to the community than thousands of UK Post Boxes that never met criteria.
Good News! It got accepted, I labeled it as Public Food Bank and in the extra info i stated it was not privately owned nor generic. And i added the URL to the about section of the food bank. A friend 5*'d it and it got accepted.
Guess I'll give mine a 2nd try. I put the same info in the support thread 1st time, but we'll see what happens.
