This will only lead to confusion. Why not just relax the requirement to allow people to change their bonus location, which makes far more sense and coincides with previous challenges? I can only imagine how many people are going to set their bonus location anyways and not read this thread.
So does this mean Hometown location can be changed now, i.e. it's not permanent?

I want to increase the waypot in Russia together
Will the change of hometown location be permanent after the challenge ends? or will we be able to reset it to our real hometown again?
I dont want to keep my hometown location in Russia when this challenge ends.
During the India Challenge, it was possible to change the bonus area after the event.
Is it possible to change the hometown area after this Russia Challenge event?
So Niantic learned nothing after the India challenge, that they need a separate, temporary opt in event specific location.
I would much prefer to change my bonus location-- because of the India challenge I finally set my home location to what had been my longstanding bonus location.
Granting a "free" change of bonus location at the end of a location-based challenge is more valuable to me than any in-game rewards, especially right now since I misplaced my pin when changing my bonus location and am stuck in a zone with zero submissions for the next year. (@NianticCasey-ING... if you're feeling particularly altruistic and want to slip in an additional post-India change...)
Is there a difference in the visible range from home locations and bonus locations?
This time I noticed that it is a system to participate in the Russian Challenge by changing the Hometown Location instead of the Bonus Location!
I also want to know the area where reviews can be obtained at Hometown Location.
If is this the case, not allowing change bonus location to help the Russian Party Wayfarer, I am not interesting on doing it this time.
How confusing. Wouldn't it easier just to do away with the Home and have two Bonus instead for good?
If I set hometown location in Moscow, can I reset when the event is over?
I'm going to guess they've gone for the Hometown location due to their algorithm. That way we could probably get a lot more nominations from Russia, which was one of the problems with the India challenge.

Yes it will be allowed to be changed after the event. As this relaxed limitation is only for the period of this challenge. So once it’s finished, you’ll be allowed to change to your original hometown location.
And this actually does work in the favor they want it to go.
As with the previous events, they will resetting these locations for users that have indicated as such.
How do you know? I haven't seen any official statement on this.

For the next events, could you study to add a new category for the people that want to help review in the country, without the requirement to choose a precise location in the map.

Can u specify “relaxed”. Is there a specific window? I don’t wanna be stuck with Russia as my bonus
