Just a quick question to go on sure that my bonus location will be stuck in Russia:
Can I reset my bonus location after the event?
Can I ask a Niantic Mod to do so like in the India WF challenge?
I explicitly ask for the bonus location. I don't really want to change my Hometown location.
If this is possible, I'm in!
Also, I am thankful for any suggestions for the bonus location to not be "mainstream" and take one big city.

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.
The answer is no. You won't be able to change your bonus location after the event, it is only applicable for the Hometown location. You should be able to choose a different home location after the event.
Having said that, if you had participated in the India Wayfarer Challenge and have your bonus location set in India we would reset your bonus location once. However, we won’t re-reset once the event (Russia Wayfarer Challenge) ends. I hope I clarified all the common questions for the Russia Wayfarer Challenge you folks have.

Not only Bonus Location for the wayfarer they have changed it.
Niantic have prefered to Change Homelocation for Challenge.

All they said is it will be relaxed, typical Niantic vague information. But I too hope it will be able to reset a another time after event ends
I am scared that my hometown will be stuck in a country I don't understand the language of. And only reviewing with a translator is not so nice.
That's why I asked about the bonus location. I hope a Niantic Mod can clarify this.
I am also worried about it.
Why Niantic keep silent?
Some of my friends hesitate to join this challenge due to lack of clear statement from Niantic.
Status changed to ANSWERED, but I don't see any reply from Niantic accounts answering people doubts.
Is is in answered as long as someone commented. I can put it back to "question", if I want.
Would also like an answer to this. If an additional change will be possible, then I'll happily participate. But otherwise I'm hesitant to do so.
No answer yet. Maybe, a mod can quickly answer with "yes", "no" or "I dont know"? Would be important since the event already started.

What about those of us who changed our Hometown location as instructed? When (as in what exact date, how long after the end of the event) will we be able to change back? I set mine once I figured out the process but as of now I am unable to change back to my true hometown. When will we be able to revert our Hometown location, and when does the window close for those changes? Don't leave me hanging on the scenic shores of Lake Baikal!! My actual hometown is a fairly dry zone as well and they need reviewers quite badly.

Sure they said "you should be able to Change after Event"
But it were nice to know If there ist a time window for changing after Event.
E.g. 3 days or what Else, after that WE cant change Back.
Dont want to miss the Chance of changing back

To answer your specific question, once the reset has been done after the event you can choose the new home location at your own convenience.

Thanks for the clarification. So if I would put my Hometown to Russia now, would I (and others) have the Niantic-guarantee that I can reset my bonus location After the event? I think this is why many wayfarers struggle with joining the challenge.
I was asking for a response from Niantic. My question clearly stated that I wanted a date/end date. Fortunately, in this instance I am happy enough with the official response I received so I do not need to rely on vaguely restated blurbs from unofficial sources.
if you change your HOMETOWN location to Russia for the event, your HOMETOWN location will be reset after the event is over. Don’t reset your BONUS location to Russia- BONUS locations will not be reset.
the only BONUS locations that are getting reset are the bonus locations stuck in India from the India wayfarer challenge in April. If your BONUS location isn’t in India, don’t change it. Only change your HOMETOWN location to Russia. Hometown will be reset after Russia event is completed. :)
I can see where there was confusion Casey said "hometown" but linked a "how to" article that was for both hometown AND bonus location (plus the previous events were different). Hopefully @NianticGiffard and the team can accommodate those who changed the bonus location rather than the hometown amidst all the uncertainty that Casey provided.
You need to read the entire post, not just the one line. They state you can reset either to assist in the event, but are only changing the cooldown for the home location.
They are not doing anything with the bonus location, only the home location. You can set either to participate, but the cooldown is only for the home location.
How does that change my problem? Maybe you didn’t understand my post correctly?
Yesterday, I changed my bonus location to Russia. (I’ve never used it before, and do not want to use it either, except for the challenge.)
I therefore used my once-a-year reset to participate in the challenge.
I did this, thinking it would be reset as it has been with earlier challenges.

This is how I read it: They will not reset bonus locations after the event, so if you used your once-a-year reset to change it to Russia, tough luck, you’re now stuck with it for a year, as it works normally. That’s the category my situation falls into, and I’ll be stuck with the location I did yesterday, which I’m not super thrilled about.

It doesn't change your problem, it pushes the blame back onto you. Since you didn't fully read the post, you put yourself into this position. Niantic is usually nice about these things and tend to reset it if you explain your situation. What I would do is explain that you made a mistake by misreading the announcement and ask to have the bonus location reset. What you did was blame them for you misreading the announcement.
Are we looking at the same posts? I don't see any blaming... and I honestly could see where the confusion was as I explained earlier. The only blaming i saw was from you towards Noddiio (and to be frank, they DID blame themselves)

He said he set his bonus location because in the announcement it said via your home/bonus location. What I said, is just after that it clearly states "For this challenge, we will be reducing the cooldown periods and increasing the limit to change your hometown settings if you are a local but living abroad." Meaning he's leaving out the most important part to make it look like it's niantic's fault for being vague. When it reality, it's clear as day and that's why there's only a few posts saying they made the same mistake. I could understand why people are asking about the home location being reset after the challenge, as that was never stated. That isn't the case in this situation. Anyways, he understands what he did wrong and Niantic is pretty good about giving 2nd chances, so I'm not going to respond anymore.

I’m definitely not “blaming” Niantic, that was not my intention at all.
There’s been a lot of confusion around regarding the new way the resets for the challenge works, whether it’s bonus or home, and in the heap of it all I’ve ended up with a very misfortunate situation? Which I explained how I ended up in. Did the situation occur because of me misreading or assuming things I shouldn’t have? Sure, but my mistake was still made out of confusion!
I’m not leaving anything out on purpose to make it look like it’s Niantics fault or whatnot either. I’ve seen the work they’ve done in the forums, resetting locations and so on, so I’m not here to “fight evil” or anything. I just tried to explain my situation, in hope for some help as well…

I'm a bit confused with all the discussions about the Russia Challenge and I hope I did everything right : I set my home location to Russia for the challenge. I intended to have it reset to what it was, i.e. nothing, after the event, exactly as it happened for my bonus location after the India Challenge. The last messages make me doubt as they suggest we will have to make the change ourselves... I'm starting to fear that the only option will be to choose another location... I've been keeping my home location blank on purpose (not sure yet which location I consider to be home) for a very long time. I know I wasn't the only one to have my location reset to "nothing" after the India challenge, so I simply assumed it would work in the same way for this Challenge, I thought the only difference was that I had to change Home location instead of Bonus location... Please @NianticGiffard , consider giving us the option to check a "clear location" box or something like that, so we can all go back to the way it was before enrolling in this Challenge...
