According to Niantic:
“ If you think a Wayspot is in a dangerous place or subject to any other invalid criteria, you may submit a invalid Wayspot appeal and we'll take a closer look.”
Even if some other action seems easier or more effective, you should either do nothing about dangerous Wayspots, or you must figure out and use Niantic’s appeals process.
Doesn’t really seem sensible on its face, but our Masters have spoken. Failure to comply can lead to being banned.

What are you talking about?
It was over an incident where someone attempted moved an inaccuratly located Wayspot to an equally inaccurate location that was "safer" and "more convenient" instead of to the accurate location where the object was physically located.
And in fact Niantic was wrong in this moment: The wayspot object was the whole house according to its title. So the gable end of the house (safest access there) would be a legit location and not incorrect. It's only not the location of the photo - the photo was the long side of the house (what the editor didnt want to have as new location, since it is a bottleneck for pedestrians and bikers).
So this is only a sophisticated discussion about what may be better, but by far no abuse.
I dont get what you're arguing, Niantic chose a correct location, end of story.
Yes, it's a correct location. But the location, that the guy proposed is by far not worth any ban/suspension since it is nethertheless a legit location. It's only not the location of the wayspot picture .....
Niantic chose a heavy handed way to tell us to leave dangerous wayspots alone, ‘cause we’ll be punished if we take the action we think best.
One big question is left: why are only Germans been hit by the last strange ban waves?
Niantic did not say this specific case was the reason for the ban (it was in some of the cases someone dig up from the forum).
Anyway, the current understanding from Niantic is that a wayspot should be on the object itself or on the natural best spot for big things (entrance, for instance).
Convenience (both for S2 cells or for easy of access) is not a valid reason for moving it elsewhere. If safety is a issue, then the wayspot should be removed, not misplaced.
This is Niantic’s game. We are just the players of it.
You have to abide by their rules to keep playing. I don’t see what the issue is.
That's also not fully true, for example for sportsgrounds. There are statements, that the wayspots shall be at the edge of the area, and not in the middle. If I remember correctly there is a question in the inital quiz with a baseball diamond about that ....
Niantic said, that the reason is a location edit, and that guy said, that he does all location edits with the help of the forum and not ingame. He has at least 3 dozens of location edit threads in here .....
So you can check all of his created discussions, and you try to identify the reason....
After his actions and comments I think ill trust Niantics judgement more than what he says. For all i know that person went to the game and requested an edit in game using abusive text because they were mad they didnt get their way in here.
Why would I do that? I don't even know if it's true.
It's still pretty much the same. The natural best spots for a field would be along the edges (preferably by the entrance or something like that).
For a building it's very hard to argue it's not the entrance or the front.
I ve lost any trust in Niantics staff since a long time ....
Evrything started with this thread: https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/8267/abuse-nianticcasey-please-help#latest
TL;DR: OP there reported lots of edits, that introduced imaginary n4zi background stories to wayspots. He had a few counter edits in the system. He got a strike too. No apologies from Niantic.
Next real highlights from my first mass fake report threads:
https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/11785/massive-abuse-and-fakes-schwarzenberg-part-1/p2
There is a set of 6 huts with permanent installed giant Christmas decoration in them. During summer times the doors of the huts are closed and on the dooor are temporary infoboards. The fakers there submitted evrything at wrong locations spread over the town. The photosphere here shows the summer state: https://www.google.de/maps/@50.5410652,12.785183,3a,43.7y,4.34h,92.99t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipNX2Zh3gzR0hgmnzoGWPkrezbr48qhEhqo9kh6I!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipNX2Zh3gzR0hgmnzoGWPkrezbr48qhEhqo9kh6I%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi-0-ya7.6439843-ro-0-fo100!7i5760!8i2880
What did Nia: They didnt remove the temporary infoboard wayspots and put them to that street. They also moved alle the hut-wayspots to that street, except one..... that was deleted ..... srsly? So they didnt do their job thoroughly. All these wayspots are submitted by PoGo, so there are supporting picutres in there database, that should show the windter and the summer state clearly ....
Second thread: https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/comment/59199#Comment_59199
The first wayspot in there is in the middle of the one and only small driveway of the main fire department of that town. Reported it twice, so maybe Niantic forgot it - they don't remove it ..... srsly? xD
.......
I could add lots of similar stories from other people ...
Then this happened 1 month ago: https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/17013/ban-for-incorrectly-reviewing-incorrect-or-inappropriate-titles-descriptions-existing-wayspots
Lots of Germans get a ban because they are accused for voting on something in a wrong way. Noone knows, what it was ....
And now the new ban wave with the "abusive nominations", all victims are Germans (only one I dont know whether German or not is @ElRond71-ING ). Again, no one knows why. In my case Niantic used the location edits with supporting statement as an pretense afterwards, because I admitted that in that thread. But I had not a single pending edit of that type while receiving this ban mail - so it has to be only a pretense, and the trigger event of that mail is nevertheless totally obscure.
Then the problems, that they write my ING-Acc, and ban the PGO-Acc instead from wayfarer temporary. Then the intrinsic logic problems.... they write in their mail, that the nominations are the problem . Afterwards the edits are the problem. Although temporary banned, I can submit nominations and edits, although my nominations (and edits?) are eeeeevil. Further they say, that one shall re-review the criteria. To review the criteria one has to login into wayfarer. Wayfarer access is locked for 30 days.
Last but not least: The everlasting problem with our spoofing friends:
The support did never anyting, even when reported with clear video proof, given with the help of youtube links. The videos have 0 clicks. Good job, Nia. Not.
And you still claim, that evryone of the Nia staff is competent?
Nope. I could make also a list of unexpected surprises, where some Nia staff members did a better job than expected, but it's not possible to distinguish them, since Giffard answered instead in all cases. The only one, that appeared in more than one negative story and more than one ban mail: a staff member named Joan.
So in the end there is a big lack of any chance for a learning curve. They only produce a massive atmosphere of fear and anger within the German wayfarer community ....
TL;DR: OP there reported lots of edits, that introduced imaginary n4zi background stories to wayspots. He had a few counter edits in the system. He got a strike too. No apologies from Niantic.
How can you be sure there were no apologies? Conversations are missing apparently

Didn't see you bring it up after, with such a long list they sometimes miss a couple, usually they take care of it when you bring it up.

Lots of Germans get a ban because they are accused for voting on something in a wrong way. Noone knows, what it was ...
Everyone knows what they did except them
The location you picked was roughly 3 meters from the building itself, so it was equally inaccurate from the original location (and coincidently was in another L17 S2 cell). Niantic was correct in not using that location and instead moved the Wayspot the front of the building, which is the logical point of discovery.
Which is fine but I think the angst comes from the ban that proceeded because the user was deemed as “trying to influence” the edit. I personally had no issue with the edited position being directly next to the POI.
On a side note I think when possible we should try to put Pins in free cells. It keeps duplicates from clogging the queue system and slowing down legitimate submissions. Not to mention improving the community gameplay. If you can place a pin on the sidewalk next to the business vs it being directly over the building and not show up I’m all for it. They both serve the same purpose. Call it cheating or gaming the system if you want I think it’s smart and should be encouraged provided players aren’t taking advantage of it like we’ve seen in the past with editing live POI into occupied cells to get more active wayspots.
@Raachermannl-ING Casey was pretty clear about this when they wrote:
location changes should only be submitted to make the marker more accurate or if the marker were to be closer to a logical point of discovery representing a larger location (e.g. a welcome sign for a large park)

This comment is even stronger:
purposely moving the pin to manipulate a specific app’s gameboard is not allowed.

Hi everyone! Thank you for engaging in this discussion and sharing your insightful comments. We review reports and do a thorough investigation before taking any action.
Even if some other action seems easier or more effective, you should either do nothing about dangerous Wayspots, or you must figure out and use Niantic’s appeals process.
@Eneeoh-PGO We don't recommend the former option (ignoring dangerous Wayspots), please do report them if you're able to. Thank you for your understanding and support.
