TheSilphRoad encouraging players to join the challenge now that rewards are garunteed

Thread can be found on the subreddit here
They even link to a video so people can cheat on the Wayfarer reviewer exam.
I think the rewards are a good idea, I really do. And I love the upgrades. But maybe in the future, when the goal has been met, rewards should be awarded to players who only joined the challenge before hand. It's frustrating that a lot of players who didn't put effort into the challenge or wayfarer in general are going to get their nominations upgraded as well.

I personally think that people who review only a little/don't review at all shouldn't get upgrades. The queues are already so long and upgrades are the biggest incentive to review alongside badges. And linking to a cheating video is a big no-no.
I don’t think people should be punished for not joining beforehand. I’m very active member of my local pogo community and no one of us was aware that there even was a Russia challenge. I only found out through a wayfarer fb group I’m in and then passed on the information.
So unless they start promoting these more, there shouldn’t be a disadvantage to late joiners.
(I don’t agree with cheating the exam, I think it should all be done in an honest way)
I read through the entire thread and couldn't find any evidence of videos that enable cheating on the test. If anything, there's plenty of people on that post who failed the test. If a link to such a video did exist at one point, the mod team at TSR would likely have been quick to remove it as it goes against the spirit of the game.
I heard about players joining the challenge with 8 or 9 accounts (mostly their friends accounts) just to get the reward and dip after like two rewards from Russia. I mean they are getting 80-90 Upgrades while I am getting 10 for reviewing around 200 russian nominations.
You can actually abuse this challenge so easy.
Maybe we can have a max reward and distribute them to how much each agent/trainer has participated. That way those really active in the challenge area will get more benefits to use (because they’ll usually get more nominations then us), and those, like us, can also get enough of the pie.
The Silph Road post itself has been removed as of now:
"Posting suggestions on how to get through the test or encouraging changes of home locations violates the spirit of the game.
If you wish to resubmit as an information post about the event please feel free, but avoid using any terminology that encourages speed-running rewards rather than contributing to the community."
I also joined in 3 or 4 days late, because i was waiting on more info about the needed hometown change... Would not be amused if that would exclude me from the rewards (knowing that i earned 4 upgrades between the time i joined the event and this very moment).
But i get you point: if you join in at the last 2-3 days with the only purpose of getting free rewards without doing the work for it... that's not good. On the other hand 'joining in on day 1, do 1 Russian review and than stop reviewing just to get the rewards is just the same thing... Maybe the late reviewers will review many subs, maybe not..
The decission on excluding reviewers could be made on the amount of reviews, maybe that would also help (in the future) to clean out a bunch of multi account players with 3-4-5-6-7 high enough accounts to acces wayfarer and claim way to much upgrades?
Is there a thing as way too much upgrades? Seeing how often my upgrades get denied, even when being really good candidates, I'd say no.
On the topic: I understand reviewers who have put effort into this and by that have enabled the community goodies, might be a bit sour for others not doing any work but still receiving all the nice things. But, that's how Niantic created the system. It's up to them to change it in the future, not in the now.
Home stop reviews incoming in 3...2...1 :D
I'm using it as an incentive to get other people in my groups using wayfarer. Hopefully some will continue to review after. Even if they don't become hardcore reviewers/submitters and only review a few times a week for 10 minutes that would be good I think.
I'm worried about the effect that all these 10 free upgrades will have in the system. If some people only review for farming upgrades for their own nominations, and a lot of these people (and many others that seem to be joining the challenge just for the prize as well) will for some time enjoy these upgrades without reviewing, I fear the system will get even more clogged that it already is, and upgrades will actually be less effective.
Maybe it would have been far better to be more conservative and give far less upgrades than 10...
What about only have good state wayfarer accounts count for rewards and a certain threshold of reviews done.
In the short term it may be a bit chaotic. In the long term or may encourage more people to take part
Don't worry about the upgrades for those that don't usually review: most of them are interested only in the other part of the prizes.
Huh, it’s been removed now. Mods must have caught it.
only good state accounts wouldn’t be the best idea cause these events are also about getting new people into reviewing. Maybe have a higher individual reward threadhold like X number of agreements over the event.
I am also conflicted on such a high number of upgrades eventually going out but I know my community is a dry voting area so this is our only hope to get some of our nominations through. So far none have gone through with increased reviewing from my home community but we are all hopeful that those upgrades will help out big time.
Most of the upgrades will be coal, so don't worry. But indeed, the rewards should be given only to the real volunteers.
I haven't paid attention because I don't care about upgrades but is there a minimum number of reviews that someone has to do in Russia in order to earn the bonus upgrades? It typically takes 100 agreements to get an upgrade, so probably around 150 reviews. I would expect a bar of at least, oh, 10% of the typical total? So 150 reviews in Russia to get 10 upgrades.
That is a problem even outside of the challenge. I know a player who plays all 3 Niantic games and he already gets more submissions than I do. Plus he has multiple accounts in every one of those games. He is always telling me I need to submit the things I see but I am constantly waiting for submissions. It will take me many years to get everything I have seen into the games and he has submissions expire because he can't use them all. He signed up for the challenge on 3 of his accounts.
1 review in Russia I believe.
how do you get so many Russian nominations? My location is in the middle of the city of Kazan and I’ve only got 1 out of 70+ reviews since last night when I found out about this.
I got mine on Moscow and there is a ton of submissions there. Mostly playgrounds but also scanner (REDACTED) nominations.
What is a "scanner redacted nomination"?
Nominations made through the Ingress Classic app. It only required one image, no supporting statement and wou weren't required to enter a description either.
Oh I haven't seen any of those in a long time.
Saint-Petersburg gives (me) a lot of Russian stuf to review. Most are playgrounds or complete trash 😅
I haven't been reviewing much recently, so actually I only realised this event was happening and that I could help due to the Silph Road post which was then shared by a friend, so I'm really glad the post was made! It definitely reached a wider audience.
I also chose Moscow (although I didn't know the home locations were being reset after, so I changed my bonus, oops! Guess I'll be doing Russian reviews for a year now). Some of the playgrounds Ive seen are beautiful! Most of the submissions I've seen from there have been pretty good, statues, installations of historic equipment and lots and lots of playgrounds, although I've noticed quite a few have been duplicates (assuming cases where it's been submitted via Pokémon Go when the item is an Ingress portal but not a pokestop). It's been fun and the rewards are a nice touch (I really could do with those 100 pokeballs as well as the upgrades!!)
I don't like the gatekeeping y'all are trying to do. The promise of Upgrades brought quite a few of my locals who know what they are doing back to the review process. WF has been filled with such junk in my area for so long and it takes far too long to earn Upgrades compared to the effort you put in. IMO, anything that encourages people to get involved in REVIEWING instead of just submitting is a good thing. I heard about this challenge at the beginning but didn't join because I'd heard that the Poland and India Challenges were a waste of time. I didn't join until after the first set of rewards had been achieved. In doing that, I was able to earn 3 upgrades and am over halfway to my 4th before the rewards are even applied. In the long run, that means this challenge will have resulted in me getting maybe 15 Upgrades (assuming agreements keep rolling in). My area is going to see a lot of improvement as a result of this challenge.
I don't care when someone joined, give them the rewards. Let us see good results in our local area from all this. Let people see that WF can be fun and worthwhile again.
I'm so glad someone posted about the challenge on r/TheSilphRoad. I've done more than 5,000 reviews, I participated in the India Challenge, and I check reddit every day. I'm also a member of r/NianticWayfarer, but I never saw the post there from 3 weeks ago show up in my feed.
I haven't done that many reviews this month, but I play Pgo every day and I've logged into wayfarer on my phone every few days to check my profile and the status of my nominations. I never saw the green banner about the Russia Challenge until I changed my location this morning and logged in on my laptop. I so wish this would've been promoted and communicated more. I would've done so many more reviews - not just for the rewards, but to help create more POIs in the spirit of the event.
You make a good point. They gave a green banner to let us know when we were part of the challenge. Perhaps they should have put up a yellow banner to let us know it was happening if we were not involved. I'm not sure that it was advertised on WF very well.
