Hi folks! We have reviewed the report and have taken action on 296 Wayspots and 288 Wayfinders in accordance with our policies. While we are unable to discuss our actions in detail to protect the submitter’s privacy, they may include, but are not limited to, sending a warning message, placing restrictions on their Wayfarer, Pokémon GO, or Ingress account, putting their account on probation, or placing a temporary or permanent suspension on their Wayfarer, Pokémon GO or Ingress account. Thanks for helping us maintain the quality of the Wayspots.
@NianticGiffard Thank you for the update. I hope your actions also involved either rolling your eyes or shaking your head in amazement at the lengths that people go to. (You the team not you specifically.)
I was wondering from the thread, where is the proof that this is the applicant's house?
Sure, some of them look terrible, but they look like the ones that are wayspot around, so I'm sure this one will be fine.
I sometimes recommend things along the road, even though they are on private property, with such a light heart.
It's true that this is not acceptable in terms of standards.
However, if you receive a penalty email for such a light-hearted application, the recommender will be scared and may not recommend it again, fearing that they will not be able to play their original game.
Is it okay that wayfarer is only for knowledgeable people to enjoy?
Doesn't wayfarer teach newcomers about the joys of this world?
Some people report things with malicious intent.
If you want to encourage a penalty from wayfarer
How about sending a penalty email with more detailed reasons?
The thread isn’t intended to be offensive & not all are meant to necessarily be at homes, etc. Some bad ones just get posted here as well. If Niantic staff decides to punish said player who submitted POI. That is 100% on them. We are only here to help. We are the middle man between the submitter & the company itself just doing all we can to make the game/s that we love better. If someone wants to learn what is acceptable & get a good idea of what to submit, this is the place. Most likely a penalty will not be severe & only be reflected on wayfarer & not in game. More likely it will have little to no repercussions at all for a first offense. If one of your submissions was posted here I recommend not getting upset by it & just take it as a learning experience
Niantic isn't just taking anything in this thread and automatically sending emails, they're looking at things here, and the ones that they decide need a response, they send a response.
My review feed is constantly full of things that should never have been submitted. We need less of that. If people stop submitting entirely because they were notified of that, that isn't a bad thing.
Most of the things in this thread could be avoided if the submitters would read the Wayspot Eligibility criteria. I've seen schools submitted, playgrounds at the kindergarten.
If the player has not read the Wayspot Eligibility criteria and does not know what makes a good POI, and repeatedly submits something that is against the rules, then I do not see why Niantic should not take action.
Also there are many people who submit not eligible and fake things to get a POI near their house or work place which is also not ok.
I agree with @SlicedPeas-ING - we need less of these nominations that are here in this thread. This would make life easier for the reviewers and also the submitters will not waste nominations on things that do not meet the Wayspot Eligibility criteria.
Sadly the issue of not knowing the Wayspot Eligibility criteria also goes for reviewers as many of my proper POI nominations come back with bs reasons of not accepting the POI (like low quality photo, or seasonal display...).
@RedActedS-PGO For anyone who is afraid to submit a nominations, tell them to read the Wayspot Eligibility criteria, show them how to take a good picture of a POI, teach them how to write a proper name and description and additional information. If a preson uses the Wayspot Eligibility criteria and does not submit dodgy things, they will not get a penalty!

Block wall of a private house. The application is for a small tree growing next to it.
🙄
The cherry on top is that I've seen this nomination at least 3 times in the past (and have reported it at least twice).

Wowza! I thought this was just a fun little joke thread

Thanks Giffard. Appreciate you checking in and taking any relevant actions.

Just a couple recent one. I take the time for screenshots so I don't risk a cooldown for 1*-ing too fast.
This application is a duplicate, but the application position is in a private house, so it may be a fraudulent application with a shifted position
This one is very nearly legit save for the atrocious photos and text.

private house
This stone-columned shrine seems to be maintained by a private house.
For some reason, the rock in front of the shrine is the object. It is also privately owned.
This also seems to be located behind a private house.
A pond at home. It seems to be more important than the nearby shrine.

Description
Ramen Genkotsu ****'s Famous Toilet
It is a shrine, an object of worship for the inhabitants of the house alone, set up in a corner of the grounds of a private residence.
It is for the exclusive use of the people of that house.
a false application.
If you have to think of an Initial D song now, you got a good taste. :>

I have not received any penalty emails myself.
I have not made any recommendations that deviate from the criteria.
I've heard newcomers say that they are too scared to apply anymore because of the penalty emails, so that's why I wrote this post.
I'd like to know what kind of things were actually rejected.
I've seen some of them.
As far as I can tell from the picture, title and description.
I didn't see any recommendations that would have penalized me.
(I don't know where the recommendation came from, though.)
