  • Something I simply don’t understand: If there’s a mural in the park it’s an almost automatic 5-star PoI. It doesn’t much matter who or what the mural is of, or who created it or why, or how long it’s been there, or how popular it is. All a PoI needs is to really be there where you can gather around it safely, and have a…
  • Uninteresting, in and of themselves. If they put up public art or historical information about the region, that stuff might be worth nomination.
  • Just to be clear: we are discussing the sidewalk and grassy verge, here, right? Homeowners have the right to limit passage at the roadsides in front of their property? Like a minimum speed requirement? Do you get to make some people walk in the road or cross to the other side? Do you limit the number of times they can pass…
  • Welcome to Wayfarer and welcome to this forum.
  • I did not realize that a mooring would save someone from drowning! Today I learned....
  • A steamroller is a mobile vehicle or machine that would be ineligible for nomination unless it is part of a permanent, fixed display. So, an antique steamroller with a plaque could be eligible if it could be visited safely, but a vehicle in a construction yard (industrial site) would require a lot of special treatment…
  • Ich mag dein Schreiben sehr und werde dich vermissen, wenn du weggehst. I really like your writing and will miss you if you go away.
  • Setting aside both the political and psychological issues, I don’t understand what underlying mechanism would remove a spot from one game but not another. Ingress permits more/closer placement, but this does not seem to apply here. I recall that news of the November Incident highlighted nearby adult-oriented businesses.…
  • I wish that I could combat this meme, @LukeAllStars-PGO . I wouldn’t wish to vanquish you, since you seem to be a major reviewer with an excellent track record, especially with regard to fakes. But my reading of the rules says this should get more stars unless it is truly uninteresting, since it doesn’t run afoul of any of…
  • Perhaps entitle it something like: Little Occoquan Run man-made water feature so the concept is introduced before prejudice can set in. Maybe a little about fresh air and exercise (assuming this is true).
  • These continue to puzzle me. They meet several of the rejection criteria, but may not meet any of the removal criteria. I guess they are “grandfather clause” exceptions. Location obstructs the driveways of emergency services or may interfere with the operations of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, military bases,…
  • No. People nominate waypoints for any number of reasons. Altruism, pride, personal or team advantage, addiction, etc. Legit reviewers would mostly have similar motives. Completely legitimate reviewers would wish to provide the best and clearest answer possible. They either have a stake in the establishment of a new spot,…
  • Came across some others but I cannot seem to remember them. ****= c ame.
  • I think the nomination/review process has become too extreme. If one more coffee shop is accepted as a wayspot, (reviewers feel) EVERY Dunkie Kreem is going to be nominated. So they imagine a rule that requires nominations to prove a four-star Michelin rating or Frank Lloyd Wright architecture or 120 years under the same…
  • Sometimes you can choose the category ‘Other’ and write a description in the comment area.
  • I don’t see any way that adopt-a-street signs qualify as Points of Interest under the current Wayfarer guidelines. Adopt-a-park could maybe have some niche purpose in a community that is not afforded official signage. Watch out for abuse! Adopt-a-stream, river, pond, beach or wetland? These could really be something…
  • @tehstone-ING no areas are barred, but some players are not permitted to make nominations. They can still review others’ work, however. @Vorxnyx-PGO complains that there is little opportunity to improve the local high-population zone due to rural skewing. This made me wonder if they were not able to make these improvements…
  • @Hosette-ING Sorry. I was trying to help clarify @B00JL5YI7G-PGO ’s heartfelt post. I don’t really know which of the many problematic aspects of the Wayfarer system they meant to highlight. I can remember trying to submit reviews that were stuck with the submit button grayed out, maybe something like that.
  • I agree that the system needs to be overhauled or replaced. However, I don’t see a clear answer to the question of how distant constitutes too far for accurate review. You don’t have to pass the Wisconsin Bar Association exam to evaluate a way stop, there. Why shouldn’t you review spots in nearby states and provinces?
  • Fair criticism. Are you not allowed to nominate Wayspots in your area, do they simply take too long to be voted on, or are they being rejected unfairly? Wayfarers who perform well as reviewers should perhaps be permitted to nominate at a lower level. Niantic needs to figure out and address these systemic problems, not just…
  • I ask your pardon if I interpreted you incorrectly. Please forgive and correct if this is wrong: I used to review 200 nominations each day. My local language is not English and the Wayfarer criteria are very difficult to make sense of. It’s very hard to complete the test. Many of us are analyzing your explanation of the…
  • It seems logical that cities should have a higher density of POI than rural areas, but I feel rural nominations are judged much more harshly. An urban reviewer can nominate a Bed & Breakfast on their residential block and it will sail right through. A rural Wayfarer must travel much further to nominate a scenic cottage…
  • Are they not subs under something like Outdoor->Athletic Field or something?
  • I’ve been trying to help a rural area to have a walkable/bikable loop. In a National Park, there is a trail with various local plants identified at trail markers. Here’s one wild tree, botanical name, line drawing, family name, all on a placard on a trail marker. There, twenty meters along, is a different one, then a…
  • I believe that Niantic needs to rethink this system entirely. A nominator has to spend significant time and effort to obtain one Upgrade, and must locate, research, and travel to create a Wayfarer submission. Reviewers can get away with collaborating to approve fakes or to reject legitimate nominations for any reason…
  • Thanks again for all of the feedback. I will have to wait a few days before making any new nominations. I remain somewhat boggled by the manner in which dogma or rigidity seems to hold sway over wayspot reviews. I have seen discussion here where objects on a high-speed divided highway have been defended with the argument…
  • The sign actually has a red circle/slash through the car, and there is a locked chain between two posts just a few feet past the sign, so autos cannot enter. The park ranger has the key. It’s the antithesis of a racetrack. The primary users are people on a nature walk in the sand dunes. There should be a third badge, which…
  • Why must the nominator write a dissertation or prove the current number of Michelin stars to get an independently owned business accepted as a Point of Interest? Won’t the reviewer just claim these boasts are seasonal, temporary, residential, private, adult, sensitive cemetery farmland? Why does anybody think it’s okay for…
  • I must have missed the part of Niantic’s criteria that indicates that PoIs must be erected and maintained by official government organizations to qualify. I thought that all sorts of religious, folk, artistic, and business locations were eligible. It’s cool stuff to do, hear, see, or experience that they seem to be calling…
  • I am amazed that anybody participates in this racket. I have been eligible to nominate POIs for only a few months, but put significant care into evaluating other people’s nominations. I got 160-plus agreements and did approximately the same number of supplemental assessments. Wayfarers may only have seven submissions at a…
