Third party pictures are easy to detect and are easy rejects. I can see the problem you're bringing up, but don't remove remote submitting entirely: If the photos were taken on the spot by someone who went there, that submission being done from home isn't a problem.
You may not have understood the problem that game altering programs use, regardless of whether photos are eligible or not, allowing them to upload photos from gallery lends itself to misuse of those tools combined with hack
Hi there,
Firstly, my apologies for replying in English. Secondly, thanks for reporting this @BoxNL-ING@BoxNL-ING, I have passed along the video you provided to the Pokémon GO abuse team to review and potentially take action.
With regard to your comment about leveraging your phone's photo gallery and submitting nominations from other areas besides where the actual Wayspot is, the intention is to allow you to submit nominations from areas with limited or no cell service but that still qualify based on the inclusion criteria. Especially in Ingress, these locations can make great Portals (and might even offer a strategic advantage in gameplay).
I hear your feedback about this feature being easily abused to submit non-existent or incorrect nominations, but @BleedBoss-PGO has a good point in that third party photos or ones that are re-used can be easy to detect in the nomination review phase but can also be flagged as abusive so that action can be taken against the nominator.
Like they do natively in Ingress app??? There is no misuse if they put a good suport photo and also, maybe, add a photosphere.

@NianticCasey-ING what about in Pokemon go app? why only ingress can get photos from the phone gallery?
I agree PGO should have nomination photos from gallery. It's irritating when you need to shot same photo few times, because game crashes. Nominating from wayspot location is hard too, because nomination repeatly times out and you need to start from no uplouded data.
@darkoroboro-ING To be honest, I've never heard of anyone driving 200 miles to a remote location where there is no cell service and then setting up a satellite phone connection and paying for data at a cost of dollars per megabyte to play Pokemon Go. I'm sure someone somewhere has played PoGo on a satphone, but it's not the sort of game where seeking out obscure locations has a lot of strategic value. Certainly there are other use cases but that's the overwhelming one for remote submission.
and why should an ingress player do this " driving 200 miles to a remote location where there is no cell service and then setting up a satellite phone connection and paying for data at a cost of dollars per megabyte to play.." ?!??!!?
Strategic plays on the side, Niantic see the POIs submissions through pogo or ingress just like that, free work to complete a database of POIs.
Not to mention these problems....
This user is right, the pogo app is always crashing when submiting.
thank god for third-party-camera apps.
Not to mention, that it is normal to re-submit something eligible until it is accepted.
Remote submit = overall less hassle.
In ingress, hard to access portals are a HUGE advantage. Every Ingress player that plays for faction control of an area would do this in the blink of an eye (and some have done it).
Unlike PoGo where controlling a remote gym can mean you get a pokemon locked in there for months without any meaningful advantage (other than an easy gold badge for that gym and a nice berry dumpster), in Ingress that means you get an almost everlasting anchor to send defensive links into.
That said: don't remove the option to submit from the gallery in Ingress and consider adding it in PoGo =D
Hey Casey,
Just wanted to add to this discussion. I've just updated to Android 11 which blocks me from using 3rd party camera apps to select photos. Even if Pogo didn't want this, could it pop up to select Gallery on the phone instead? I have major issues with signal in the woods where I've been trying to submit stops and POI so this feature was a life saver. The stops still work with low signal I just can't use the submission screen or it'll crash from not enough signal.
Please can you suggest this feature is amended?
Hey @NianticCasey-ING I'm hoping you saw my comment. Is this something that can be reimplemented for Android 11 users as you stated above is supposed to be essentially "switched on" anyway?
