I agree with your message, but I'd like to put more emphasis on the "I'm not advocating that Niantic reverse their policy against K-12 nominations" part of your comment.
Calling every person who goes on K-12 grounds "creepy" is definitely wrong when it's perfectly legal in many places, and when many K-12 grounds include facilities for public use after school hours.
The problem is that Niantic's Wayfarer acceptance criteria are meant to be as general and global and possible, and that's extremely problematic in the context of this change when there are certain countries where it's actually illegal for random adults to trespass on K-12 grounds (as was noted earlier in this thread).
Maybe this change would've worked better as a country-specific Wayfarer Challenge for countries where legality isn't an issue.
That in itself is fine, Niantic can do whatever they choose with their own database. Any argument about criteria, quality or asking the Wayfarer community to apply these is completely absurd.
The only thing certain is that Niantic's actual goals are finally aligned with the ship they are named after.
Any outdoor basketball courts that are nominated and are located on school grounds should NOT be automatically rejected but reviewed like an eligible nomination.
Outdoor basketball courts on K-12 school campuses will only appear in NBA All World. All other basketball courts that are located off K-12 school campuses can show up in other games including NBA All World. Hope that helps clear it up.
Great question 😁 Yes, if you are nominating through Pokémon GO, add the category "outdoor basketball court". If nominating through Ingress, we will also be searching individually for any that may not have the category included (i.e. title, description, etc). Any that come through your regular reviews, feel free to review it as an eligible nomination while we get to it unless it's obviously abusive.
Yes, we spent a lot of time thinking about this 😁 currently, regular basketball courts outside of K-12 school grounds can appear in the games. The outdoor basketball courts on K-12 school grounds that are accepted will only show up in NBA All World. If someone attempts to nominate one in an abusive way that gets missed, please reject those if they show up in your reviews. We will do our best to run several searches and review them internally. Mixed use basketball courts are eligible as long as it's obviously used as a basketball court (i.e. has the basketball hoops). Hope this helps.
Yes, we're ONLY referring to outdoor basketball courts on school campuses that will appear in NBA All World only. This new change only applies to outdoor basketball courts on school campuses and no other items, objects, etc on K-12 campuses. Any other type of nomination on K-12 school grounds should be rejected.
Thank you for the feedback. I will be sure to share this with the team. At the moment, we will be monitoring this new change closely and adjust as we learn more.
Thanks for the update. The only cause for concern I could see is if an untagged K-12 Basketball Court made it through regular review by reviewers treating it as eligible. It Would then appear in all applicable Niantic games. Which YMMV on how much that would be a cause for concern.
@NianticTintino-ING With appeals taking over 7 months to complete, and some areas having backlogs of over 2 years... How is the system going to react with the incoming wave of new basketball courts at schools... and the coal that will come with it (everything else at schools like some in here are already suggesting are eligible)? Will appeal turnaround time increase even more? Will 2 years backlog in Los Angeles grow to be 4 years?
Since we have basketball courts in schools which is higher then k-12 but all nominations are getting declined right now. And if you approve it only for NBA it makes no sense, since it's not a K-12 school but higher.
haha yup, idk why the US is the only country I know what calls it soccer. I use fútbol when I can and people will know what I'm speaking about. But to your question, they do not need to be strictly basketball courts. If you're going to nominate one, make sure it's clear and obvious that it's a basketball court such as having the basketball hoops, boundary lines, etc.
We took this into consideration and will be monitoring the changes closely; adjusting when and where necessary. Thank you for your thoughts, I will be sure to share this with the team.
All fair questions, apologies it wasn't as clear as I would have hoped in the initial post.
ONLY outdoor basketball courts on K-12 school grounds will be excluded from games, except NBA All World which will include them.
Basketball courts off K-12 school grounds are eligible for other games
Explorers are allowed to nominate outdoor basket ball courts on K-12 school grounds if they don't see an existing Wayspot if they would like.
Any outdoor basketball court on K-12 school grounds will be filtered to Niantic for internal review. If one comes across your reviews, feel free to review it as you would an eligible nomination (rejecting abusive nominations) or skip them while we get to it.
We will be monitoring this change closely. If we have community members, schools, concerned parents, etc, they can go through our reporting process outlined in our Help Center.
Hope this help add some clarity to the new changes.
Hi, @NianticTintino-ING thanks for update, today I submit 3 waypoint in k-12 with ingress and just one is niantic review. How long for niantic review tag ?

@NianticTintino-ING
a large supply of coffee and several breakfasts are going to be needed…….
I know you are the messenger, but please could we have clarification quickly on some of key points raised.

This is completely about money.

We can't provide specifics on that matter, because that might lead to users manipulating the system. 😂
phew. Good thing nobody currently does that
What does parking spots have to do with waypoints. Niantic is about adventures on foot.
I really suggest you read the post one more time so you fully understand what it says. It does not say anything to claim.

Then what reviewers should do to make sure wayspot is ONLY for nba and not for other games?

How can we tell if a K-12 basketball court nomination is abusive or not?

lmao straight in the bin with that question.

Thanks for all the clarifications today!
In response to this, What steps have you taken to ensure the reviewing masses that aren't part of the Wayforum have seen this new criteria?

@Shogun79-ING that addresses your concern.
Thank you for your feedback about opening up nomination privileges to NBA All World. I will be sure to share this with the team.

By what criteria ae these filtered?
Because, "Half Court" uses banned words.
Again, you haven't taken to account for other games. And set a terrible precedent for focusing on Wayspots for a SPECIFIC game.
Ie by stating "Basketball" invalidates the wayspot by your criteria for advertising a specific game.
You took the illegal trespassing after school hours in many countries and cities under advisement?
(legal in some places, but a blanket statement is just dangerous)
Can't possibly be serious?
Hi, @NianticTintino-ING thanks for update, today I submit 3 waypoint in k-12 with ingress and just one is niantic review. How long for niantic review tag ?
Best regards,
You would find it difficult to even get past the gate at most high schools in the UK, you wouldn't get inside the gate at any primary school.
I know, I have a school near me where it is illegal to trespass by adults (not teachers) everyday
