Offensive content?
Hi again guys.
Ok so, without going into too much detail, I had a nomination rejected and one of the reasons given was it was flagged for “offensive content”. I have to admit it did bother me because I would never be purposely offensive to anyone or waste what I believe to be a good nomination.
So what would you guys consider offensive content?
The place I nominated was a local house of worship (at this point I don’t wish to elaborate)... but I tried to be very respectful in my nomination and I see religious places nominated and passed all the time. This isn’t about whether my nomination is valid or not it is about what you guys personally see as offensive?
Thank you.

Don't refrain from them, just be neutral in your description about it.

Hey there,
Without seeing the nomination itself it's difficult to say but this rejection reason is intended to be used for nominations that include inappropriate language or that feature images or locations that could be considered inappropriate.
It's possible that the reviewer just selected the wrong rejection reason, but again difficult to say without seeing the nomination itself.
Thank you for responding. I really hope that it was just someone choosing the wrong reason and I didn’t actually offend Anyone.
I had a nomination rejected for that as well- it was a very boring nomination to be honest, a concrete fountain (very plain and basic). I was extremely confused. Like Casey said, sometimes people click the wrong thing, and unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people click random reasons.
Was it for a controversial religion? That's the only thing I could think of.
No. Nothing controversial, it was a mosque not far from where I live. I do know for a fact it doesn’t show on google maps yet so I tried to upload a 360 to street view but it wasn’t published.
Oh well... I think I will refrain from religious buildings from now on.
I've submitted many religious buildings/churches and never had an issue, so I wouldn't be too worried. In fact, churches/places of worship are generally some of the easiest ones to get approved.
If it doesn't show up on Google maps, someone might have thought it was a fake? I think the option for reporting is a combination of reasons- abuse, trolling, harassment, offensive- etc. But its possible I'm misremembering that.
To be honest... being a religious building, and having seen almost every church or mosque near me already be a waypoint I thought it was a given 5* nomination.
The building itself shows up on google maps, but it was something else before a mosque and it’s still showing as that even though it has been a mosque for ages.
I was thoughtful too, I found it’s proper name from google and looked at their Facebook page and found a lovely quote about god they use on their page to put in the description so it wasn’t just “religious place of worship”... maybe that is what offended someone?
Or maybe someone just picked the wrong rejection reason. I guess I will never know :) but it has helped me getting advice here. Thank you.
kept submiting them as religious buildings are suposed to be 5 star dont let people get you down. only way a religious building could be viewed as offensive is if the picture it self shows something that can be taken that way so it more then likelly was ether wrong choice chose when they downvoted it or something like that. id also sugest since you said it wasnt on map yet put in the aditonal comments that this is a reletively new mosque in this building and may not tshow on google maps yett but please use the shape of th e building and such to judge

something i learnt day one here is there are alot of legit should be portals that get denyed every day due to many reasons from bad photos bad descriptions to reviewers not takeing time ect. dont let it get you down if its good it will eventualy go trough if your not sure ask us we will help we dont bite well maybe byte ( ok bad computer joke aside) dont let it get you down just try and figure out ok this may be why it was denyed how can i fix th is
Thank you :)
problem is... some of you do “byte” 😁
Guidelines tell us to give low ratings to descriptions copied directly from other sources. It's possible somebody flagged as abuse for that. @NicoSolheim-ING's suggestion for the description is very good.
It's also possible that there had been a trend of "bad" nominations and somebody thought you were involved with them.
I don't think I would worry about it too much. From what I have seen, Niantic doesn't generally look into 1* abuse rejections unless somebody files a report. If a report is filed, from the sounds of it Niantic would likely not find it abusive unless they found something done with malicious intend on your side.
Best of luck if you redo the nomination.
I just got “the real work location of this nomination appears to represent a generic store or restaurant” as a reason for an old, old parking lot pay phone (Only one like that for hours) being rejected. It’s annoying to get a reason that doesn’t make sense, but I wouldn’t put much stock in the rejection reasons.
Unfortunately this is something that happens. A local mosque took ages and several attempts to get accepted, simply because it's connected to Islam and islamophobia is very strong in my country. "I'm rejecting everything from [neighbouring country] because I hate them" and "I'm rejecting everything that's not in [my native language]" are also something I hear and read regularly on different forums and plenty of people seem to agree. After all, reviewers are people and people are often petty and malicious.
I suggest you try again (and again, and again, if necessary). Places of worship are eligible.
Thank you guys.
@Nadiwereb-PGO I am sorry you have experienced that, it is awful. I did think places of worship were all eligible so I will try again.
When I get more nominations I will try again and try to make it more acceptable.
Hi @NianticCasey-ING thank you for responding.
Can I ask a question? Since the nomination was flagged for offensive content my other nominations have remained “in the queue” and they usually get through really quickly. Is this related or just a coincidence?
Again, thank you... and anyone else is welcome to answer this too.
