Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
As my flowchart says: A marker is eligible AND acceptable. I'm not argueing that. What I'm saying is that the rejection criteria undo every other criterium above, no matter if the object is accepted in the previous phase. Take the example of a basketballfield on school grounds: It is eligible (great place to exercise) It… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
Well, nobody doubts the eligibility of those trail markers. Since they're clearly representing a trail, it makes them all eligable under the criterium "great place to exercise". The question however is: do any rejection criteria apply? People may argue that: A second trail marker is a duplicate because they both refer to… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
The trail is an appropriate Waypoint, but you are submitting this sign as a placeholder. If we follow the argument to the extreme, anything could be submitted as a placeholder for a trail "because we are nominating the trail, not the marker". The "trail" here is a bit of public road and grass, so "meh". This marker looks… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
"As long as the marker represents a trail it should be accepted." Every single marker. A trail is a much larger object than a playground, cathedral or soccer field. From the (now defunct) "Potentially confusing nominations" page: Objects installed in a series - Objects installed in a series can be submitted as a group or… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
I find it hard to believe someone seriously arguing there should be only one trail marker per trail. It's just a discussion of how far apart those should be. "What if other POIs are nearby, shouldn't they be chosen above the 'boring' parts of the trail?" This is a judgement call for the people nominating POIs, not for… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
The problem is people nominate the markers (not eligible to me because the marker itself isn't interesting) instead of the trail itself (great nomination!). As clarified recently, the trailmarker can be used as a proxy for the trail you're nominating. This works in exactly the same way as as any nomination of a large… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
There is no room to argue. "As long as the marker represents a trail it should be accepted." There is no "unless it is mass-produced", "unless it is generic", "unless it is not interesting". The only rejection criteria that could apply are "Ineligible location, place, or object", and that is highly unlikely for a trail… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?

To put in perspective these are the ones I was able to actually get passed this one I’ve gotten multiple to pass, they are named all on a path and each trail marker which is basically what they are are very far apart so duplicates will not matter. I have 3 exactly the same passed in different areas the green sign being the… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
As I said, trails are in the eligibility criteria, markers aren't. Right now people are using this to add every single marker they can find on a trail, which I presume isn't what Niantic intended. @TWVer-ING I do agree that one single marker for a trail maybe is a bit rigid (specially on long trails) but if you read your… -
Re: Hiking trails/trailmarkers - whats eligeble?
The concept of visually unique is understood wrongly very often. A trail marker must be visually unique. If it is not visually unique it fails its purpose. VIsually unique means that it has to stand out of its surrounding. You have to easily find it. Trail markers are there to be easily found. They lead the cyclist or…
